  1. 1) The MAC would not help the Zips in any way, Even if they added schools 2) Being the best in the conference dose not matter in the MAC. Bosie State found that out the hard way. 3) The Mouatin West is BCS close? What did I miss? 4) The only reason that the Big East is still BCS is because of mbb. 5) The ideal option is to join the BE. Having a super conference of Directional schools and a few big schools does not work in the long term. For BB it would be great, but for football there would be no chance. Mabye coach I has a plan, but we would not know for for a few years. The MWC was at the doorsteps of being BCS close, but lost Utah and potentially BYU. That leaves them with only TCU and Boise, as well as a handful of MAC-like teams.
  2. If anyone Akron should emulate TCU, Utah, or BYU. They at least play balanced schedules, while Boise plays cupcakes. Also those three schools are/might be moving up to a better conference.
  3. Akron and Temple should both switch to C-USA. No other MAC teams deserve it. Buffalo? no they had 1 championship in football a few years ago and thats it. They don't have the facilities we do and they don't have the fan support. All they have going for them is the potential Buffalo region market, but we have Cleveland. Their football team got lucky to win the MAC and are mediocre at best now. Last time I checked a 5-7 record isn't all that great. They have an 0-1 all time postseason record. Their basketball team has never won the MAC.
  4. This is depressing for us...I want out to the MAC so bad, I don't even care if it was a lateral move to C-USA. But PLEASE get us out!!! the fans and players deserve better than the MAC.
  5. Well, at least he didn't repeatedly steal from his teammates to raise money for his drug habit, as did a certain starting QB last year. But seriously, he's a kid and kids often make stupid decisions. That said, he might come to his senses and return to the team. If not, the Bobcats are fairly strong at guard now, and they certainly played well without him virtually all of 2009/10. What the heck does a former zips qb have to do with this guy from OU? If we are bringing up irrelevant past, here ya go bud OU Guard Arrested OU athletes arrested in 2006 there ya go idiot! don't come around here again, or expect to get schooled
  6. Ennis seems to act like Favre...but I don't think the Zips are as desperate for Ennis as the Vikings are for Favre. I owe it to the fans It looks like your Vikings got their man. Maybe the Zips will be so lucky. a pro athlete says he owes the fans? what??? I wonder if the stupid piece of dirt lebron heard that, apparently he feels doesn't owe Akron or Cleveland crap, must be nice to be "spoiled" like we were by him. Back on topic, Ennis is gone. He may just keep Akron around for a bit, but by judging by his decommit, I don't see why someone would do that if they indeed still wanted to go there. He's just waiting for a better offer, which he will receive and KD will have to do his best to find a replacement.
  7. I get that Captain, but I'm still allowed to not like it! I hate it! But this is how I justify it... If an athlete chooses Toledo or Can't over Akron, they are obviously idiots anyway haha. They must be smoking some of that Portage grass and anyone who thinks those schools are better, aren't welcome in our beautiful school
  8. I just saw on ticketmaster Daniel Tosh will be at EJ, and that is the biggest name of the year. I'd say about 90% of college students know who he is, and if you don't he has a show on Comedy Central that is hilarious. He show Tosh.0 is basically just him making fun of internet clips, so I'm not sure how that will translate to stand-up. But it would definitely be worth going. EJ is a great place and I just can never understand WHY CSU and rinky-dink schools can bring in mainstream acts and we get Nora Jones and Colbie Calait. We have RHPB but they spend most of their time bringing in the same comedians year after year with the same exact jokes year after year. I understand they probably work hard, but I really wish they could refocus on bringing in say 2-3 big acts a year, instead of 10 or so mediocre comedians and hypnotists. I understand those are free events, but I know that students will pay to see someone they like. I hear about friends going up to Cleveland all the time to see shows, which means they are willing to drive all the way there and pay for tickets. Why wouldn't they want to go watch a good show on their own campus?
  9. If he had orientation, wouldn't he have to be academically qualified?
  10. They should make it a sports bar type campus restaurant for students and the general public. Keep it open 365 as a hub for Akron athletics. They already have a license for alcohol. it would make sense, but we can't do it along Exchange. Eminent Domain says you can't tear down a business to replace it with that same business. You can't tear down a bar and then put a bar there. One of the things holding back the team shop is that B&N wants to sell coffee and candy, but they can't because the Odd Corner already did that in the same location. One place that would work fine legally would be on Spicer, next to the new dorms. Don't we sell coffee and candy at the concession stands inside the stadium?
  11. How about in "The Comeback" episode of Seinfeld? "The Jerk Store called and their running out of you!" They mention akron at about the 4 minute spot. Also in the great 90s cartoon the Rugrats, Tommy Pickle's family moved from Akron, to their current home in California! btw 90's nickelodeon was the greatest!
  12. This will be an early Christmas present for the ankle-bitters from YSU. Their only goal in life is to brag about how much better they are than us. Too bad our football team is so "scared" to play a mediocre FCS team
  13. this is exactly how I feel! I couldn't care less if Ianello didn't have a golf outing. He's a coach, he needs to be coaching and recruiting. In his first year he should have more important things to do, which is just doing his job so we can have a winner on the field. Also I really don't see how a golf outing would really do anything to bring more people to the games. Think about it, who would really be there? season ticket holders, z-fund members? people who already support the program. I don't think an average joe who's not familiar with the Zips would just randomly go to the outing, and while he slices yet another ball into the woods, thinks to himself, "well i suck at golf, but maybe I should go watch a team that sucks too"
  14. They said on Grant street, between Exchange and Wheeler? does this mean Gallucci is getting torn down, or the Townhouses? Wouldn't mind seeing either one go, I lived in Gallucci for 3 years and it has really been showing its age. I wonder why they didn't want to build this new building up near the stadium like originally planned?
  15. Tough choice? not really, football home opener is where it's at. Nothing better! Agreed. And you'll undoubtedly be in the overwhelming majority. In fact, if I were to take a "wild" guess, I'll predict that 20,000 people choose the football game, and about 20 will choose to travel to the road soccer game. Now I'll wait for the "Soccer is going to catch on in America someday" people to jump all over our comments. I actually don't think we'll make it near 20,000, but I hope I'm wrong. I think OSU is off that day so we might get a bigger turnout, and maybe...just maybe we won't have to see any ugly red at the stadium!!!!! I'm thinking a crowd similar to the Indiana game is what we should expect to see. I love soccer, and hope we can get that championship this year, but they are away games. I just don't see why you'd want to go all the way to NC to watch them, when you can watch the home opener for football. It's just hands down a better experience at football games, because it really is more than just a game. Tailgating, partying, basically a full day experience... I still don't understand why some Cowlumbus State fans insist on showing off their Red and Silver apparel at an Akron game. I wouldn't consider myself a soccer fan, but I am a Zips Soccer fan. I agree with you, the reality of the situation with it being a soccer game, and being hundreds of miles away, I expect that the ratio of those who will choose soccer over football will be about 1,000 to 1. I'll also be very interested in seeing what kind of crowd shows up for this game. For decades, we've normally gotten our largest crowd for the first game. Having a better opponent than last year will help. Will Labor Day weekend help or hurt? If OSWho is off, that will help. But I think ultimately, the fact that we no longer have the "first game on campus in brand new stadium" excitement in our favor makes me want to agree with you that we won't get close to the Morgan State attendance from our home opener last year. But, I am still hoping that we can do better than the Indiana game. I have a few theories... 1. They are stupid obviously and think that they look good? 2. They think since they are at a football game they can wear any football jersey they want 3. They don't care about the zips, really are just at the game because they have nothing better to do and want to show off that they are really Buckeyes fans who have no connection to the school. 4. They are white trash that left their trailer park to go to a local wal-mart and all they could afford was osu gear. ...sadly when I see red and grey I actually lose respect for a person. Same as when I see Can't or Pittsburgh gear. I mean they could actually be nice people, but when associated with such an idiotic fan base, I can help but just assume they are like all the rest...
  16. The greatest sport in the world, "football", is called "soccer" in the U.S.A. So, what's your point? I have bitten my tongue long enough. I wish the soccer Zips well and would never make disparaging comments about the team even though I have zero interest in the sport itself. The same courtesy is not extended by some of our soccer fans when speaking about the football Zips. I hope the soccer team wins every game, going from pre-season number one all the way through to NCAA champions! Because I am a Zip. And I wish ALL the Zip athletes success. If you are gonna take jabs at the football program and compare them to the soccer program, stay on the soccer board. If you are gonna make comments about soccer being a better sport than football or more popular world-wide than football, stay on the soccer board. Popularity abroad means nothing. David Hasslehoff is a star in Germany. The French think Jerry Lewis is a comedic genius. We are talking about NCAA sports here. According the latest statistics I could find from the NCAA, the largest crowd ever at an NCAA soccer game was 22,512 back in 1980. In 2008, the 86th ranked football team on the list, Central Michigan, averaged 22,659 for their home games. Here are the links. http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/footb...ndance/2008.pdf http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/m_soc.../Attendance.pdf Stop hating on the football program. Did I say I hated the football program? I made a "jab" back at some of the folks who find it necessary to state that American football is better than soccer on the soccer forum. Before you become all "self-righteous", I invite you to check out the other forums. I wish our football team the best. I want to see them do well. I have a football season ticket and soccer season ticket, unlike some who come into the soccer forum and say they would not spend one second watching soccer. EDIT: What I was commenting on was the arrogance of "the greatest sport in the world", for which American Football was implied. Arrogance like the NFL putting "World Champions" on the Super Bowl Champion rings. It's not a world championship; the world doesn't compete. Super Bowl Champions or NFL Champions, but not world champions. Soccer (or football as the rest of the world calls it) actually has a World Championship played every 4 years. So when you mention NCAA...no that was not the reference of the post I was replying to...it was "world". Guess I am FIRED UP like the thread title. Good night. The way I see it the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB are the top leagues in the World. All of the greatest players, reguardless of home country, will come to the U.S. to play. This is what makes them World Champions. I guess your argument would be better if say the MLS champions were called 'world'.
  17. The greatest sport in the world, "football", is called "soccer" in the U.S.A. So, what's your point? I never said "football is the greatest sport in the world" if you really want to get technical. I never specified what the greatest sport was, but implying that on labor day weekend it was being played at UA, this means it would have to be the sport at Infocision Stadium. Since technically there will be no mens soccer (European football) being played at UA that weekend. So thats my point haha
  18. 19. Hmmmmmm...So I take it Dreal isn't heading to North Carolina for the start of soccer season??? Labor day weekend no one should give a crap about soccer! We ALL need to be watching a real sport, the greatest sport in the world at the greatest school in the world
  20. Tough choice? not really, football home opener is where it's at. Nothing better!
  21. Even if we are winning, he could be gone. I can see back-to-back undefeated seasons of 12-0 in 2010 and 2011. Coach I would have to leave to go to a bigger program, and I fully expect to see this happen, along with undefeated seasons from our basketball and soccer team. Anything less would be a failure!
  22. What do you mean? isn't Abdullah on the roster? #44 Couldn't find anything about Henderson, wasn't he a 4-star defensive player or something? I can't really remember
  23. Thats awesome, glad you can see the stadium and not those dang rinky dink dorms that used to be there. But they still need to update the "streetview" because all they show is a big pile of dirt where the stadium is. Hopefully Bing will update sometime soon as well, they have a "birds eye" view which would be cool to see of the stadium.
  24. YSU ankle-biters strike again. you got a two star wide reciever. Not a big deal and I have to say I have no idea who Eric Wolford is, so I don't see any dominance from YSU anytime soon. You say that most of those schools are medicore or bad? really your 6-5 FCS team is better than Syracuse and Indiana? You guys couldn't even score a single point against OSU a few years ago, what was it 43-0 or something...seems pretty mediocre or bad to me
  25. Akron beat all 3? HA! The Indians have a better chance of winning the World Series My prediction for the first 4 games... Syracuse (L) 24-10...under 18k GW (W) 35-14...10k Kentucky (L) 42-10 Indiana (L) 21-14
