Class of '23 Offers & Verbal Commits
LZIp replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
South Point OH is named very appropriately. Aren't going to find much out there on Mr. Long besides his short Hudl film. Seems basically non-existent on social media outside of his twitter profile with 2 posts. -
This is a good point.

Position Preview (and updates) - Wide Receiver
LZIp replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
I really liked Arth's last WR class of Singleton, Mumpfield, Gathings, and Walker. Mumpfield obviously gone. We saw some flashes from Singleton last year as a true freshman (though he got banged up some). Gathings was out all year injured, and as far as I know Walker was fine but didn't get PT...but his HS tape was explosive as hell. Shockey and Adams should at worst case be solid MAC WRs. Its really hard for me NOT to be excited about a young WR from LSU. Not playing young isn't an indictment against him IMO considering that talent that comes out of there, which is in the same tier of OSU and Bama. We know Scippio and Grimes are capable of playing at this level as well, though there probably just-a-guy at most. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with this group. -
Position Preview (and updates) - Quarterback

Count me in as believing in Irons' potential if the turnovers can get cleaned up. I'd like him to maintain his health as well. He was beat up last year and I recall reading about injuries in JUCO as well. Better O-line will help, but avoiding the contact and sliding or stepping out of bounds every now and then will too. -
Winning the regular season is nice, but if not, I don't really give a damn where we finish in the regular season. I want NCAA tournament bids and win(s) in it. I believe thats what many of us were expecting sometime in the next two years considering the youth and assumed returning talent to the team.

Last comment about this...we know Groce can bring a player of similar caliber as a replacement (see KJ Walton). Lets just hope he hits this time or our window we thought we had might be shattered before we have a chance to enter. Ali has/had flaws, but he also had/has a high ceiling and the ability to score efficiently at all 3 levels. I don't think we have a proven player on our team that can do that. Big hole. Will be interesting to see how the 2 open schollies are addressed. I'd hope for stretch 4 and wing, but we may have to settle for 2 wings.

It's an epidemic...now lets hope Rollins enters next lol.

Nice article by GT to start us off!

Feels like both Williams and Segu were there forever, so I don’t necessarily think them leaving is an indictment against the state of Buffalo’s program. I don’t know anything about the center. LCJ left with a year of eligibility and BVP is leaving OU a year after a NCAA tourney win. Sometimes it’s just time to move on whatever the reason may be. With that said, Seems like Buffalo is due to take a big step down unless they hit on the transfer portal. None of their young players stuck out to me.

B&G hit it on the head, but Akron Beacon Journal is the "best" by default. Also you'll see a lot of the interviews in the sense I was talking about on the Akron Zips/Akron Football social media accounts and the Akron Zips youtube channel.

Here we go. I hope interviews, highlights, etc are much more regular than the previous years.
-
I figured BVP was done with college ball, but this could be just what the doctor ordered. I imagine he's trying to go higher though.

We sort of just did the same with Moorhead

TW did a nice job "failing forward",

I stepped up finally with the news of the Moorhead hire. Don't believe I've heard anything since the initial deposit though. Plan to do the same for the bball program as well actually due to their success. Doubt I'll end up doing anything more than GA for the time being due to it just being tough to make many of the games in person, but I figure at least it shows support 🤷♂️ For whatever reason, I feel the university deserves my $$ much more than the Browns, especially after the past week.

Some scheduling info from this. We have Wright State, Marshall, and Cayman Islands so far for next year. I'd guess Wright State and Marshall locations flipped from 2021. In addition, the conference is going back to 18 game schedule so there will be 2 more non-conference games. Groce also said he likes to tailor the non conference schedule based on the team, so I would look forward to that generally being beefed up some.
