NLI National Letter of Intent (Late) Day 2022
LZIp replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Someone who is guaranteed a spot on the team for a year that pays their own way. So they are targeted, but not deemed worthy of a scholly, at least right away. Programs usually have 25 or so walk-ons on the roster, whether invited in the recruiting cycle, a school tryout, or whatever other manner. -

From our Director of Recruiting. Doesn't seem like any more commits today, at least on scholly. I hope we get a presser or video like in most previous years though with the staff briefly going over each commit. -

So with 21 players signed, we should be right at or just below the 85 scholarship limit. With the new rules, we should still have the ability to add up to 11 more players. Of course, that would mean a similar number of players transfer out since we are at or near the cap. Have to imagine spring ball will be telling for our coaches and players, as well as players all across the country in terms of who is a fit or not. Offhand, I’d still like to see a transfer at QB, CB, and OL and I think we’ll be sitting pretty to be competitive in 2022 and hopefully somewhere around .500. -

I believe on scholly at BG for 2 years. The PWO's are even up a level or two. -

Was a PWO at Boston College last year. -

Wow the staff is actually letting us know who walks ons are? This is going to make tracking the scholarship chart so easy. Ha! -

That should account for all of our transfers (excluding the kicker who I'm not sure they'd announce). Awesome job @Blue & Gold keeping up on these -

Looks like Tyhler Williams is going to end up signing with us after a late push from Arizona State. -
I for one would be shocked if there is no transfer QB brought in, though it may not be until after spring ball when more options become available. I'm not sure if Marousek and Jankowski are a fit for what Moorhead wants to do. I could be wrong though. If not, all we have after Irons is Jennings.

I wonder if at this point we're treading into PWO territory outside of anyone obvious (multiple offers and what not). I don't see anything about an offer from anyone on his twitter profile and bringing in 5 freshman OL seems a bit excessive. He may be on scholly though as our OL was pretty thin. I hope we can get some more clarity in the coming days.

I don't think/know if there is any sort of LOI for transfers. I'd guess all who committed in time to enroll in January are already on campus and working out with the team. Though I'm sure all new scholarship additions will be announced by the University.

Just saw that Arizona State is making a very late push to get Tyhler Williams as they’ve offered him. It’s tough for me being a Zips fan to think we’ll be able to retain him, but If we do, all the more impressive.

Nice weapon at TE. Had offers from Va Tech and Iowa St, among other MAC schools.

There's actually a way to look at HS recruits, transfers, and overall class ratings now. We are 2nd in transfer rating behind Buffalo. 11th in HS recruits, and 8th overall. Jacques-Louis' rating is actually a bit misleading. His HS rating is .876. He hasn't been given a "transfer" rating yet (which would be lower), like Alex Adams, who has a .8863 HS rating and a .86 transfer rating. Him, Victor Jones, Max Banes, and Cam Threatt all haven't been given a transfer rating. Still a lot of updating to do and good results overall however considering all circumstances.

Looks like another OL commit with ties to Cinci one way or another per a tweet from J Rodriguez

This team is easy to like. Lot of good kids who work hard and have talent, but there isn’t a DJ Cooper or LCJ on this team. I like X a lot, but all of Groce’s best teams in the MAC (can’t speak for Illinois) have had stud Combo guards who had the ability to take over games. To me he doesn’t fit into that role and nobody else on the team appears to be a 1st team All MAC/POY caliber player, so that makes winning in Cle a long shot IMO.

And Trimble misses both FTs.
-
Well now we know where things stand. Second tier MAC team with Kent and Buffalo (probably more towards the middle than top) while OU and Toledo are above the rest. Doesn't mean we can't go on a run and win the tourney, see OU last year...but its tough to envision. I'm not sure what the obvious fix is next year either. Just gotta hope these guys keep improving.

Kalle and Williams is not a comparison that’s ever came to my mind, but I hope you’re right! I’ve always seen him as a traditional 5. I would think Deng Riak more realistic.

That final experienced OL we want just may have entered the portal and is local. Kevin Toth out of Hudson spent last year at Rutgers and is now looking for a new home. Perhaps a little less experience than preferred as he'll be a Redshirt Freshman, but I think his talent + a year in the B1G would allow him to come in here and contribute right away. Joel Rodriguez (OL) and Blake Kucinski (Recruiting Assistant) are already following him on twitter, so the wheels will at least be kicked. This staff so far just seems to get it. https://247sports.com/Player/Kevin-Toth-Jr-46100137/

My guess is that specific tweet is related to Ka'Marri considering the timing, but you never know.

Keeping up with the Three D's (Dambrot, Dru & Duquesne)

IDK about ya'll, but I'm enjoying the Guthrie experience thus far. Hoping we can keep him here long term if he continues on the current trajectory. -
Keep an eye out for KaMarri Landers commitment this evening. https://247sports.com/Player/KaMarii-Landers-46100998/

I'm probably over generalizing, but I always like to turn Holiday weekends into 4 day weekends 😀 Just figure there are some that do the same or there isn't much getting done otherwise. Also the chance that all schools may not be back in session...but admittedly I'm just throwing something that might stick at this point lol
