I respect the others' opinions on this board who has met him. Their opinion of him is likely correct, but he's really only got one shot to get the hire right. Us swinging big and pursuing Wilson at OSU is encouraging to me. The other names in the articles didn't intrigue me a ton, but that doesn't mean they can't be successful.
Scheduling 3 (or even 2) pay day games a year rather than you’re traditional or more common 1 more than pays for the potential increase in salary if we want to step our commitment up.
Holliday is good and his time at Marshall seemed to end with weird politics, not because of the product on the field. He's only one year removed from the game. If we can get him to coach 'til 70 (5 or 6 years) and groom a future HC under him...that's pretty tempting. Continuity is key to having a successful program.
You spoke too soon. The fact is we were plenty shorthanded to begin with. Playing a bunch of back ups only compounds this misery. This game can't get over soon enough.
I concur. However, I bet Michigan would have fired Harbaugh by this point if they wouldn't have owed him so much $$. They did make him take a pay cut IIRC. Same goes for Nebraska and Frost. Sometimes being hamstringed by your own dumb decisions can pay off. More patience is needed in CFB.
I’m not super excited about the names that seem to be in serious consideration, but that doesn’t mean they won’t/can’t be successful. The article also confirmed we are yet again using a search firm.
Probably right....just surprised he doesn't have a better position right now being that he should still be quite highly regarded. CMU was able to hire McElwain after Florida fired him, however. So hiring a recent retread from a big time program isn't unheard of.
Tom Herman anyone? He worked Fickell-esque magic at Houston, is from Ohio/coached at OSU, and really didn't do that bad at Texas (especially compared to his successor). He's currently an analyst with the Bears and will soon be unemployed again once Nagy is fired...not that being analyst in the NFL is hard to compete against anyways.
