Putting your back up in while the game is still in doubt for the sole sake of 'getting real game reps' makes little sense to me.
-
they ended up beating UMASS? wow
-
I'll take it. Still some stuff to clean up, though. Most disappointed with the OL play today. I'm not sure what was going on with some of Pohl's passes, but not sure why coach wants to keep yanking him to light a supposed spark.

The o line needs to get it together. 3 man rush dominating is inexcusable

Total domination today, Zips! Cant wait to see the all-black uniforms as well.

Do we really see our team as inexperienced? We lost Diggs who we are used to playing without and Harney (may or may not have been known at the time of scheduling). We are going to lose at least a guy or two every year. Are we always going to be inexperienced?
-
Serious props to Hustlebelt for digging up some information on this. Great details. Guys that are doing this as a hobby. Something people who are getting paid to cover the MAC obviously had no interest in.

i see what you did there.

highest program 'ranking' in history? wow does it feel great to be out of that embarrassing "bottom 10" for good.

Amato has done a great job. Not only in in-game coaching, but also in accumulating and developing nice talent on that side of the ball. Take it FWIW (and I hope im wrong), he is looking to be a head coach again. Preferably in Florida.

It will be interesting to see the Zips how the Zips perform after a big W. EMU looks to be hands down the worst team in the MAC. Even behind UMASS, Miami, and Can't St. Hoping for the blow out that is should be. I want total domination, but wont be surprised with a let down and closer-than-need-be win. That's about all I have to say about the game leading up to it.

Post Gazzette article if anyone is interested. I suggest reading the comments for a few laughs. good to be on the other side for once.] http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/2014/09/27/Pitt-loses-to-Akron-21-10/stories/201409270178

Now that I'm done celebrating and recovering, ill post my in-depth thoughts on the game. Wow. What a great game plan by the coaches. Its clear on defense that they focused on stuffing the run and wanted to make the unproven QB beat them, and it worked! We shut down Conner more than anyone has so far the entire season, we didn't let Boyd get loose. Secondary played great, d-line got some pressure, LBs filled holes, and the whole unit tackled well. We especially impressed with Brown, Givens, Scott, and Mizell. Was great to see Pittman make some plays as well. Great job defense! Offense. Feels great to finally have established a running game. I've been calling for Hundley to be the main back for some time now. He isn't a home run threat, but he is a sure beat to always grab a few yards and break a tackle or two. We just need to keep the D honest to open some passing lanes. Great game Conor. Chisholm probably sealed his own fate with that fumble late in the game. Good hustle by Goodman to get the recovery. It is good to see MTB come along. He has had a pretty solid season so far, and to me, is slowly developing into that big play WR that we need. I like when the ball gets in Bickley or Williams hands, but catch the ball first guys! D'Orazio is D'Orazio. The most consistent bet we have on the team. Pohl could have played better, but made some key throws to allow us to win the game. He would look a whole lot better if the number of drops went down. I have to make a separate paragraph for this. Props to the coaching staff for getting over the stubbornness and going under center in a power football formation in short yardage situations! Loved seeing Grice get not one, but two touchdowns. Way to hold onto the ball big fella. Zach Paul had a hell of a game. Dont see a way this dude won't make it in the NFL. Stein still scares the hell out of me. I hold my breath just watching extra points. My biggest takeaway from the game to improve on is that we need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. Catch the ball, line up right (cost us two TDs), be aware of the clock, enough with the dumb personal fouls, recover fumbles, etc. Make winning football plays. I had us at 7-5 assuming 1-3 in nonconference. An 8 win season is looking nice right now.

Takes me back to people calling for Hirschman after Pohl came within feet of beating Michigan last year. Pohl had an interception (which was still a great play by the FS, probably would have been caught if he didnt get there) and probably two bad throws. He isn't Ben Roethlisberger, but I'm not sure if I can name any starting QB in the conference that is noticeable better than him. There are four problems with our team that I see: 1) FG kicking - good luck on that getting fixed. 2)Running game- looks to be improved, so long as we stick with Hundley. 3) WRs catching the ball- our little guys, Bickley and Williams need to catch better. Even D'Orazio seems prone to a drop a game. It is nice to see MTB coming along this season, not only with improved hands, but with also making plays after he catches the ball. We desperately need a WR to do be able to make plays. 4) Secondary. I am pleased with Givens and very pleased with Scott stepping up yesterday. I even credit a couple of our sacks as "coverage sacks". Good job secondary containing Boyd. Bre Ford is also a ball hawk.

well that escalated quickly. Pohl is just fine at QB. Woodson looked alright as well I thought. I did think putting him in was dumb though. Biggest issue is the WRs catching the ball. Pohl's interception? Never would have happened if Goodman lined up correctly. Not to mention it was a good play by the FS. Play before would have been more than likely been a TD pass to Smith.

What was the attendance today?

What a game plan. Looks like coach Bowden may have got some word from this forum calling for Hundley to be to the go to guy. Defense played outstanding. GP1- good predictions leading up to the game this week. Hope your wife was watching with you. Go Zips!!!

Finish this. Let's gooo!

I would have ran up to the line and spiked the ball. They had about 10 seconds to do it.
-
before getting drove back? That would be the key issue. If your forward progress is stopped before going out of bounds, the clock doesnt stop. Regardless, coaching staff/players need to know that the clock was running. I mean chances are we would have missed the FG by about 20 yards, but there still would have been a chance.
