no clue what thread to put this in. too much work to search through which thread where the Ianello discussion was in..but I thought we all would enjoy this Bruin Report Online @BruinReport · 14m So UCLA wins the toss and elects to defer. And then Texas chooses to kickoff. So UCLA will get it twice.

we last played them Ianello's last year..which seems like 2011 to me. I wonder who they picked up in place. Should confirm/shut down any thoughts of them being 'afraid' of us.

Clowns could ruin our soccer pitch and more…
LZIp replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
i might have taken the time to read the novel if we were mature enough to use the proper name of the team. -
thats pretty cool Hilltopper. Would have loved to see your reaction to that.

what year(s) were dropped?
-
Huh? ESPN doesn't miss a chance to rag on the B1G and OSU as much as they can. You must have missed the 20 minutes or so of it today on College Gameday.

Those are some strong words. I'll admit I have no clue about him, though.

The Cleveland Browns could ruin our soccer pitch
LZIp replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The current coach of the soccer team appears to be doing more damage to the program than the Browns practicing on the field for a few weeks ever would. -
May be mistaken, but I thought the MAC champion destination bowl has been the GoDaddy bowl?

You could sneeze on Travis Benjamin and he would have some injury.

My research has inspired me to do some more research regarding other mid-major OOC schedules, specifically mid-majors who have made runs in the NCAA tournament runs the past few seasons (SFA, FGCU, Dayton,Mercer, Davidson...the list could go on and on). You'll find at least 1 thing in common between all of them..they all played at least 1 really good team in the OOC. Coincidence? I'm not so sure. You can't convince me that going on the road for big games doesn't help prepare you for the NCAA tourney regardless of the outcome.
-
Agree to disagree then. Also, while it may end the 21 game/season streak or whatever it is, one game against a good major program won't make them a mediocre or .500 team.Just did a quick look, and it appears programs we aspire to be like (VCU, Creighton, etc) still cant even get big time opponents to come to their place. Its just unrealistic expectations. I even looked at Stephen F. Austin and they went to Texas last season. If you want it, you have to go out and get it. Just my two cents.

I think experience against playing against top teams (who they would be playing in the tourney as a low seed) can't be a bad thing. In your post above, I noticed you didn't list any games as "probable losses". I kind of see it as a disservice to the team if we aren't giving them real tests. I see it as very important to have a game or two like that in the OCC, especially with how meaningless the OOC is in basketball compared to something like football. I wonder if OU fans/players would have rather played Coppin St or OSU last season. Same can be said for Toledo and Kansas. You learn more from losing than you do from winning. About to go on a little GP1-esque off topic rant. Back in high school I played football and my class was pretty good. We lost something 9 game in our HS career (5 of them my freshman season). We played in a weak conference, but would blow teams out 40+ to nothing 6 or 7 games a season. We played maybe 1 or two challenging games per regular season, and won only 1 playoff game in 4 seasons. Looking back, I wish we would have played tougher teams in the regular season to help prepare us more for the post season. We would have been better conditioned as well as better overall from the experience of playing top quality teams. I would have rather went 7-3 or 8-2 and have some post season success than to go 10-0 and lost a close first round game because we weren't used to the big games. As for the teams that turn us down, you can only do so much investigating, especially at a school who isn't really under the microscope like UA. You seem to be in the know, so would you mind sharing some of the teams who turn us down and give important details. Ex- Pitt turning us down because they don't want to do a home and home is understandable. Pitt turning us down to even come play at their place is something I could take issue with and see your point, but looking at prior year MAC team OOC opponents, I don't see that being the case. Thanks for sharing, Dave. Excited to have some new blood in the program.

My guess is that shots weren't taken down field because Pohl was running for his life all game.

Why does using have to mean tear up? I've been to their training camp in Berea and the practice fields always look nice. -
Edit - double post. Beat Marshall.

On the way back from State College. The fans were very nice, it was a beautiful day for some football, and the stadium and atmosphere was great obviously. Overall I am pretty pleased with the teams's play. I know Stein is no world beater, but you have to wonder what the coaches ever saw in O'Leary to start him over Stein. I really feel coming away with zero points after a GREAT opening drive was a huge momentum killer. Thought Pohl and D'orazio played exceptional. Would have liked to see the O-Line play a little better, and MTB make a moderate to difficult catch for once. The defensive unit as a whole, I can't complain much. They played their asses off and those huge PSU targets for Hackenburg were a tough matchup. The got tired towards the end of the game. Coaching can improve. WHY WHY WHY do our coaches refuse to put Pohl under center in short yardage situations and make Hundley start back farther and give the D more time to get into the backfield!?! I wish our D was more aggressive. Hackenburg had all day to throw. We have some nice LBs..let's let them make a play. Hopefully March is okay. He was injured near our sideline when PSU was running hurry up in the early 4th I believe. There was no stoppage because he go to the sideline, so it may have been missed by observers.

Conner is a man amongst boys and Boyd just had an amazing TD catch. These guys may be the best team we face all season.
-
I have a ton of doubt about the accuracy of that graphic considering Ok St found some loophole to avoid a bowl ban due to grades and are ahead of a lot of teams on that part.

Since this discussion has taken off, I suppose I'll add my 2 cents and try to not be too critical (even though as a member of the media you should be used to criticism). I'll start off by saying I completely understand the business perspective and have zero problems with the number of articles published about the Zips. I do take issue with what seems to be...lack of overall motivation/likeness of covering the Zips. Why do we always have to find out about recruit commitments through Zach doing a random twitter search or why can't statements that any real fan would know be correct (Mizell sitting out last season). Info such as commitments, observations at practice, recruiting targets, etc doesn't have to have a whole article dedicated to it. Tweets get the job done and give the fans that care information. It just comes off as disengaged and GT just covering the Zips because he has to, to me. While they may not be as talented as GT, I thoroughly enjoy reading Hustlebelt much more than ABJ because they are fans who are passionate about their teams and seem to care. Ex- the Penn St- cross blog- Q&A was already done earlier this week by Hustlebelt.

Pitt vs BC right now on ESPN for anyone who is interested.

Hell yes

I know Zipmeister tries to be a troll 100% of the time, but surely I'm not the only one who has no idea what he's going for 75% of the time

Where did you all go to for tickets? I might be looking to go last minute.

LeBron Camp Back to Akron: Will it happen?
LZIp replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Him attending games many years ago or not wanting to attend games because Ianello has nothing to do with my post, nor was it meant to be taken as a shot at Lebron. My post is concerning the present and morr of a "the powers that be" need to get it in gear. OSU knows how to use him, it's time we follow suit. Marshall and BG seem like some fun games to attend this season and some games where recruits will be in attendance. He isn't going to go to Detroit to watch us play in a MAC championship or Mobile for a bowl game.
