  1. Only cynics would see this as a bad thing. I mean its not like we have some rowdy atmosphere where there are going to be riots or anything or students arent sneaking in liquor already or anything (oops).
  2. this is getting repetitive, but I'll ask again. link? Surely if it has such a great impact, it would have been mentioned somewhere. I mean, if the Washington Post has enough time on their hands to write an article about somebody guarding Lebron James in practice, surely they would have time to post about the huge impact he has on our program lol. Besides, any player who comes here because we have Lebron gear or because Lebron tweets about us once a blue moon, isnt a player I want playing for my program.
  3. I seen Coach Tressel walking near the corner of Allyn and Wheeler today while on my morning run.
  4. yeah, because he doesn't have a relationship with guys like Jared Sullinger and John Calipari.
  5. You are correct. They don't pay for their gear. They get their gear "free" but in return they must wear it (advertise). With or without Lebron we would be getting "free" gear.
  6. 1. Bron has probably attended as many, if not more OSU games than Akron's. He tweets about OSU just as much. How are we "his team." His camp?? Yea, he's taking it to Las Vegas, and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't bring it back. None of these "elite HS players" that he has brought to Akron have chosen to play here. How does that benefit us? He's talked up KD..these high school recruits don't sit on the internet all day and read SI articles. He didn't "buy" them anything. That would be illegal. He sponsors the team. If he didnt, we would be getting the same "free" gear from adidas, nike, or whatever. Nobody him being associated isn't in anyway beneficial to the University, but him saying a nice sentence or two about his HS coach in an SI article doesn't benefit us in anyway, let alone be "invaluable" or "priceless" publicity. Nobody who read that article is going to change their opinion on Akron.
  7. show me a link. The burden of proof is on all of you. Capn' Kangaroo's link proved no such thing. I admire that he gives back to UA, shows up here a few times a year, etc. However, stating this publicity as being priceless if just asinine.
  8. link to a recruit who has chose to play for UA because Lebron shows up here a few times a year?
  9. I'll care about this "invaluable" publicity when it actual benefits the University in some way.
  10. Bleacher report is a joke. I thought everybody knew that?
  11. yep. I follow a few Akron accounts on twitter. Not sure what is the "official" one (even though I'm guessing its @FollowTheRoo). Whoever is in charge needs to get rid of the diffusion and focus on a single account.
  12. Lyons is a heck of a player that could easily play at any major program. Wishful thinking about him coming to Akron, not going to happen.
  13. Pretty sure I seen outdoors on twitter. edit: here ya go: Zippy ‏ @FollowTheRoo Reply Retweet Favorite · Open This afternoon's football Spring Game will be played outside at InfoCision Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 pm.
  14. In high school, we played strictly man defense. Man to man defense puts a lot of pressure on the secondary. I viewed the secondary as the weakest spot of the defense last season (defensive line could be debatable as well). I dont know if we have the athletes capable of playing man to man the majority of the time. Better hope we get a solid pass rush, I think the secondary will need the help.
  15. Yeah, lets hate on Holmgren, it's not like he has taken multiple teams to the Super Bowl or anything
  16. Weather is supposed to be the same in Columbus. I'm getting 50 and cloudy on my iPhone now for Saturday.
  17. seen that as well, ugh. I plan on attending, with some friends as well. People are definitely more excited about Akron football. Hopefully the weather will change and be decent and we may have a decent crowd (for Akron anyways).
  18. I think this game is worth it's own thread with the shot of rejuvenation the program has had during the off season. I'm looking very forward to this game. See what players are improved, and seem to be excelling in the new system. Curious to see QB play and Chuck Amato's defense! Any word on recruits that will be attending the game? Go Zips!
  19. I believe when KD says the bracketbusters doesn't matter, it is when it is already determined that Akron will not be getting an at-large. This year, they MAY have had a chance when the bracketbuster game came around, but that is something we will never know. The bracketbuster game has a chance to matter every year (thats what its their for), Akron just usually isnt in the position where it is going to make a difference for them. I, too, wonder the change of heart KD suddenly has. I remember the interview where he said fans have unrealistic expectations due to mid major programs like Butler, VCU, and even OU this year. Seems he has drastically changed his tone in a short period of time. This is true. More revenue generated (a realistic amount) doesn't, and most likely will not mean profit for the UofA football program. I haven't looked at financial statements, so I am sort of curious how far in the red we are. However, more revenue generated, profit or not, means less money lost for the University that we are able to put somewhere else, such as a coaches salary.
  20. I've seen Diggs working out quite a few times the past couple of weeks. Zeke once or twice.
