I hope we do not lose you...I think you are an astute fan and I enjoy your posts.

I would like to see Paul hired too but I am total agreement with Hiroad1. We need to do our homework. But given the situationa and our financial resources...I think Paul is our best option. But you really can't say that unless you go through the process. +1 Get the best guy we can for the money we have. Isn't that what every hire at every company is about??? Absolutely. But we have people on here saying we have to spend "whatever it takes" and the money issue is not our problem and has ruined sports because we focus on what something costs rather than demanding that we get the best talent (the “accounts” ruined it..as I recall). The UofA has not proved it can, or will, support any sport. We have successful sports in bball and soccer but students have not supported either to a great extent. Granted...soccer has good support but without a National Championship driving it...attendance was greatly reduced. Look at the last 4-5 games this year compared to last year. So...we should get a good coach that matches the situation that we have. The big East?? Show me first that we have any chance of getting a bid. It never ceases to amaze me how easy people spend other people’s money....or expect them to spend for their benefit.

JZ84 and ITZ will be happy if this is true. I believe it is his time. Are there better candidates with more potential?? Probably. But all come with risk...less risk, more money. I think Winters is the best "risk adjusted" (sorry...I am a financial guy) candidate.

To whom? To most Zips fans, obviously. I've never seen the ZNO board light up like it did last Tuesday w/ all the Jim Tressel rumors. Maybe it as just the "savior complex" kicking in. Just because there is a mob, doesn't mean the mob is right. I don't think he was stating his opinion on whether the "mob" was right or wrong....just that there is a "mob". He is correct and accurate.

Rubber City Akron Soccer Support Group
Doug Snyder replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Rubber City Ogohs Would be unique and probably no one would know what it meant. An Ogoh is a mythical creature that captures the negative energy and evil spirits so the group can have prosperity. Could be lots of fun. But it probably will not get much support. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogoh-ogoh https://www.google.com/search?q=ogo+ogo&...280&bih=875 -
We should call you the Oracle. Nice call.

Why would you care?? Is he somehow offending you?? What am I not getting??

@ Hilltopper You are either very good with research or VERY old. But you win the prize!!! Free car wash on February 30...all day long.

Now that's the textbook example of flatlining. I don't mind flatlining. at 11-1

I think you are overlooking his time spent on D1 staffs. He recruited D1 players while at those schools. But there is no guarantee anyone can recruit here until they show that they can. We are taking a risk with anybody we choose for the job.

You and U of A need to get out of the 80's with your marketing. Plenty of firms can create a great campaign for minimal cost. And we'll get what we pay for. I'll match what I know about sales and marketing against anyone on this board. Toledo packs in their stadium with winning. OU is packing in their stadium with winning. We pack our stadium with free tickets...and you know who I'm talking about. The Athletic Department needs to get people to pay to watch the team play, not contrived buzz backed up with free tickets. OU average attendance for 2011 = 19,890 I guess that is pretty good for where they are located. But I would hope for more when we “pack” the Info.. I agree that wining is the only way we will get butts in seats (other than signing Tressel...and that would only be a one year phenomenon). The biggest group that needs to be addressed are the students. Come up with ideas that get students involved enough to actually attend games and I will be very impressed.

Abreu Back, Tree Practicing
Doug Snyder replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
It was a freaking bar fight. There will be little or no LEGAL consequences. He probably only got arrested because he didn't co-operate with the cops. Hopefully, the Judge is a Zip alum. The school will spank him, but really the biggest question is what was he doing out at 2AM before a game? He has to stop that behavior at once. But please, this was NOT a rape or robbery or child molestation. It was just a bar fight. You sure are blase about a potentially bad situation. People have died in bar fights. Treadwell has a four count charge and is out of jail on bond. No judge is going to turn a blind eye to a powerfully built man of six-seven pounding his fists on a smaller man. Public intoxication and underage intoxication are also charges. With good lawyering and some breaks Tree is looking at a fine, probable community service and a cost of several thousand dollars which he is not likely to have. Let us hope for the best and not turn a blind eye. This is not a pretty situation. Please get your facts straight. Treadwell was out after the Saturday night game. Like you stated; he has no business being out at that hour of the night. He was also charged with resisting arrest. Cops take a really dim view of judges who do not punish people for this offense. Dim like opposing them at their next election. There is nothing cute, funny of small about this situation. IT must be handled carefully or we could well lose this young man. The objective is to get him on the right path and permanently away from the influences that had him out partying at two AM. Of course, this didn't even happen...you're telling me Treadwell AND another guy were hitting him...and he wasn't injured at all? C'mon now... No injuries?? Is that really important?? It is a character issue. And really....do we really want someone who is punching someone repeatedly and causes ZERO damage to be pounding away under the basket in MAC games??? That would be saying he is a weakling. More likely the DJ is a Zip fan and does not want to see Tree go down hard. But whether or not he has injuries is not really important. -
He was beating the drum often and loudly for Fickell and calling TW an idiot for not hiring him. Now...Fickell is "tainted" and worthless. If you listen to Zach...it is your own fault.

@Hiroad1 I am thinking of a coach in the mold of Solich at Ohio. A very good coach that has his team prepared to play, recruits well in the MAC and is still innovative. Ohio is always in the running for the MAC east title. For me...that would be a better path. If you are changing out every 2-4 years (because if we are very successful the duration will much shorter) there will be hits and misses. If we had Solich....lot 9 would be rocking and I think many more students would be going to the games. Game day experience would be great. That is what we need...someone who can make game day experience great. Any coach will be a risk. My gut tell me that Matt Campbell will be a great coach some day. Can we take the chance and give up a year while he makes adjustments while he learns?? What about a retread?? Lots of failures there. At what level will Zook be a successful HC??? And if he fails...can we say there were no "red flags"?? Unless there is a guy that is a sure fire winner...I will throw my support behind Paul Winters. He was fun to watch, was a good coach, has been successful as a HC, his prior team mates and those that played for him support him. It is Paul Winters time. I do believe that we should go through a thorough search and vet each candidate. I have a philosophy that I live by: "You get the facts...or...the facts get you" Go Zips!!!

I agree! Erin and Katie were very organized and the trip went off without a hitch. Well worth the $65. Exceeded my expectations in every aspect (except score). Kudos to Erin, Katie and all who were involved. The fans who attended the game were also a fun to be with and I got to meet some interesting new Zip fans. A+

He was the only holdover fron JD staff. I like Okruch. I understand that he was the guy responsible for getting Chisolm to commit to Akron. He probably is staying to keep whatever recruits we may have from leaving. I hope he joins the new staff.

I graduated from Miami so I know a little about Shane Montgomery. I believe he is a very good OC. Did not have any success at Akron...but something never smelled right here with him. He never had a Bio listed on GoZips. Not sure he saw eye to eye with JD or what was up. But I know for sure he will NOT be a hot commodity for HC. He failed miserably at Miami when most felt the team had the best talent in the MAC. He ran a very loose ship...similar to JD. Some guys are good coaches that are not meant to be HC. Montgomery and Ianello fall into that category. If he is a sought after coach...it will be for OC at a bigger school/program. Or...if you lose your coach you can promote him and see for yourself.

Maybe he is an innocent victim and the truth shall set him free. I hope he at least learned 2 lessons: 1. the media spins things to make you look bad. 2. STAY OUT OF THE MEDIA

The next coach to leave Akron by choice, will be the first (in my life). Last time it happened was Gordon Larson, 1972. He stayed on as AD for a few more years. Bob Huggins? Ken Lolla. But I think he was referring to the football team. And the point is worth noting. We really have never had sustained success at the D1 level. But I am optimistic that things will change. But if we are changing coaches every 3-4 years we will have some hits and misses. Would be nice to have a coach here for a while and develop his replacement.

Knowing that you are not impressed with Kelly's 118-35 record tells me how much you support Winters. And that's fine. I can see what an emotional choice this is for some people who have a history with him. And I'm sure his mediocre record would be defended by someone who played for him. I'd probably try to do the same thing. To the poster who implied that I KNOW that he's never even gotten 1-AA interest, that's not true. I don't know that. But, if someone could tell me the schools that have shown interest in his services, since his accomplishments are more impressive than Kelly's, I'd like to know. I'm guessing that there has to be a some reason why Kelly has spent the last couple of decades moving from GVSU to CMU to Cincinnati to Notre Dame. And during that same general time frame, Winters has been an OC at his alma mater, and has been at a D-II school in urban Detroit ever since. Some have different ambitions. During that same time Larry Kehres has been the coach at Mount Union. He has been approached any times but decided he likes it where he is. I think ITZ and JZ84 and others like myself want someone who will be like Kehres or Winters at Wayne State or Dambrot. How long was Kelly at one school?? I think it would be far better to have a successful coach here for 8-10 years. I was hoping JT would bring that as this would have been his last job. But I will take my chances with Winters....and UofA Alum, raised in Akron and loves the area. He is one of our own...that should count for something. We are taking a chance with any coach coming here...time to give one of own a chance. Personally, I truly do not care if we get a coach who moves up from Akron in 3-5 years. If they move up on their merit, it will mean Akron is winning and on the right track. The program will then be more attractive to subsequent coaches too. IMO, whether or not someone wants to stay in Akron for a decade should be low on our list of priorities. I want a winner. I want the coach who will take the fastest and most energetic approach to establishing a winning program. We've got some real challenges, and we need the BEST person we can sign to turn it around for us. If they stay in Akron a long time great, but I'm not worried about that. totally against this. We get 2-3 good years from someone and then take the risk of hiring another Ianello? Caleb Porter is one of the highest paid soccer coaches because Akron can afford it based on the success he's brought. IF we get a good coach that fills the Info, we need to pay that coach enough so they don't leave. If we could get 2-3 good years I would be more for it. But Haywood left Miami after 2 years....1-11 in year one. So Miami got ONE good year. Give me someone with potential that may want to stay a few years. Will be interesting to see what the coach at EMU does. 2 terrible years and one above average (for a MAC school).

This is very good news. +1. But that tweet sounds awfully cocky and unremorseful for the pain his absence cost the team vs. WVU. I wish his tweet read something more along the lines of, "I'm back and want to appologize to my teammates and fans for letting you down when you needed me most. I promise this will never happen again. Go Zips!" +1 Hopefully he will say the right things later. But it would have been nice to see the apology as the first words. Welcome back AA.

I doubt if he "interviewed". He was probably presented with a coaching offer. Surely the UofA attorneys did their homework prior tho any job offer.

I don't believe you are correct. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault Maybe a lawyer on this site can give the meaning in Ohio law.
