Per Dambrot...no center this year. That is the priority for next year. I think we will be looking in some unconventional locations for our next center. We are also investing in a "rack" to strech Tree and Egner a few inches

Caleb Porter's Questionable Coaching
Doug Snyder replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Don't know if he is over his head...he did make 1st team MAC if I recall. I think the higher level of competition have exposed some of his weaknesses. He would have been better served to have transferred last year so he had 1.5 years at this level. I am disappointed that we will not get to see if he could adjust his game and make the improvements to take his game to the next level. Woulda, Coulda and Shoulda...I hate those 3 guys!!! But I like Holmes and still think he is valuable. -
That's interesting insight. Actually, I've detected a lot of resentment towards Akron from the Canton Repository as well. Trust me on this one...people in Massillon think way more of the ABJ than the Canton Suppository.

All of these are the painfully rare exceptions which prove the rule that Cleveland's media ignores Akron 99% of the time. When Akron gets between 3-5 minutes of coverage, from each major Cleveland television outlet -NBC, ABC, CBS & FOX- every night (regardless of merit, i.e., Browns, Indians, Cavs) for the next two generations (roughly 40 years) then we'll go ahead and call it even w/ the Cleveland media. Cleveland's media has had Akron by the balls for a looooong time now; literally a couple of generations. That's almost entirely devastating for the Akron community's personal identity, or "sense of place." And, IMO, I don't think the Cleveland media was dumb enough not to realize what they were doing; it was intentional. Fortunately, 6:00 local news broadcasts are for dinosaurs and are quickly becoming increasingly irrelevant to a community's identity formation. I grew up in the Massillon area. People there have the same feeling about Akron as you do of Cleveland. I suspect the people in Orville have the same feeling about Massillon. Smaller communities will always feel slighted by the larger media market. I do not agree that the Cleveland media market spends any time at all thinking of ways to screw Akron or Medina or Youngstown or Canton or Yada Yada Yada. People are concerned about their own lives and getting ahead. They want to please their constituency and get ratings and make more money. If the smaller markets are unhappy with the media coverage, they can always start their own network and give more coverage to their city. But the truth is...the Plain Dealer has little distribution in Summit county so that dictates their coverage. I have not been around here for a long time and don't watch a lot of TV...but there used to be an Akron news station...does that still exist?? GP1 is correct…it is ALL about the money and profit. I don’t see any profit motive in disparaging local communities outside Cleveland by the major media outlets. Just my opinion...

Based on good information; do not expect an official announcement until next Thursday. Latest word: Two are signed; third expected Wednesday; announcement on Thursday. Please do not ask who is not signed; technically I do not know who is or is not signed. If I can't ask who is not signed...can I ask who IS signed??

TAILGATE for Akron's last home game!!
Doug Snyder replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Cool video...thanks. One question came to mind while watching it. How many MAC schools play soccer on their football field?? Buffalo for sure....any others?? If the MAC wants to elevate it's stature....soccer only stadiums would be a must IMO. -
Call Erin. I am sure she can accomodate you.

Agreed. And the MAC looks strong this year.

Diggs Named East Divison Player of the Week
Doug Snyder replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
@GP1. It cost me $10.00 to take my daughter to that game. PM me next time you are in town and I will give you the $10.00 so you won't feel cheated. I don't think anyone there felt cheated or that the UofA stole their money. -

Yes. Wrong title. Wrong prediction. Wrong title but probably not the wrong prediction if we don't play up to our capabilities. Our inexperiance and lack of chemistry is understandable but they must be overcome quickly. Look at our schedule...the last few weeks were not pretty and that is when we all thought we would be peaking from the experiance gained during the season. Go Zips!!!!!

Lemme get this straight. You leave at halftime because you're embarrassed by the band, then come back with your friends to watch the football team that has won two games in two years? The bigger question is "how would someone know the band is not good if they never watch the band". Or... why would anyone care what that someone thought anyway???

You know, I remember quite a few people who still post around here celebrating the dismissal of Lee Owens after my senior season over on the old angelfire board. That man was fired for a 7-5 season which included a top 10 offense and a near upset of a top Big 10 program. What would you all give for 7-5 now? Don't forget the crazy one point loss at UConn. No doubt, 7-5 (even with one extra FCS/1-AA team) sounds spectacular right about now. And don't get me wrong. I'd take Winters over Ianello any day of the week, and that was my stated opinion as soon as Rob was hired. That hasn't changed. I just feel Paul missed a nice opportunity to state his case to his numerous detractors on this board by losing last Saturday. Of course he has a chance to reverse that with a deep playoff run. You know my opinion. Winters was not on my radar before but I am now convinced it is in our best interest to hire a succesful guy with Akron ties...someone who wants to be here and loves UofA. Put me down as a Winters supporter.

Not sure if he was a good coach or not...I was not in the area and information was not as easy as it is today.

Cleveland State got 43!! We need to kick their arse. I hope they keep winning.
-
Point well taken. Neither of these individuals would play at our current level. May success follw them both. Go Zips ... !!!! Humpty had 2 assists. A shoot first point guard...not my preference. Glad he found a home that works for him.

I think we got lucky against MSU that they missed a lot of their 3's. If they started hitting them we would have lost the game. Maybe... but if McClannahan made his shots it would have been a blow out. Woulda, coulda and shoulda...3 people I have no use for.

Can you explain how negative sarcasm targeted at somone who did not graduate from UofA, does not work for UofA, has no affilation with the UofA and does not work for the ABJ covering the UofA helps this, or any discussion??

The beating NIU took does not look good nor does WMU losing to SDS. I am expecting rhe MAC to be signifanctly improved this year.

I agree that Harney and Tree will not be in at crucial times. They will make youthful mistakes and more importantly...are terrible free throw shooters at this time. I expect that to change for next year though. I don't agree that Tree is way more athletic than Egner. Egner has always been a very athletic guy with great hop. He is just not an accomplished offensive player and currently does not have those skills. I think Tree will be the starting PF next year but Egner will have lots of PT. He is a harder worker and has a defensive mindset...both appreciated by KD.
-
To me...he looked to be pressing a bit. New guy...new team. It happens. I think all will be OK...he just needs to relax and let his natural instincts take over. This really can be a special team. The next few games will be fun to watch to see if we have the mental toughness to keep winning on the road. I expect a few hiccups that we will have to overcome in these next few road games.

Everybody agreed we played a great game and great defense against Miss State. Nitro play 35 minutes and more than anyone else. Do you think there may be a correlation?? I will continue to put my money on KD to find the best rotation. Walsh has definetly shown he deserved lots of PT. I believed that from the beginning...glad others are starting to realize his ability.
