  1. Actually, the Zips soccer team did somewhat underperform in the regular season from what Zips soccer fans expected. Now in the NCAA championship tournament they are starting to live up to the expectations of a defending national champion. Hopefully the basketball team will also do well in the post-season. I plan to make the trip down. Do you and Hilltopper want to join me on the trip down?? I will drive....but you know how small the Mini is ;-) If there is a bus...I am taking the bus.
  2. can't believe Darren missed that shot
  3. did they score on PK?? Looks like they did...but score still shows 3-1
  4. How much time?? What is the link??
  5. People have ignored GoZips and others who have closely followed the team, watched practices and have spoken with KD. It has been said over and over that mental toughness, basketball experience/IQ and leadership would be issues...especially in the beginning. Tree and Harney have played one year of organized Bball and many think they are NBA ready. They make mistakes and miss free throws. It will be a season long educational process where the Zips develop cohesion and teach the younger guys how to play. They will look bad at times. Right now...the Zips must win on athleticism alone...not the usual recipe for Zips success. You really should take the comments and criticism of the “shock jocks” with a grain of salt. The summer tour?? Those 10 practices were the first time they could coach Tree and Harney. And no Serb. That tour was about teaching and advancing the understanding of the new guys. AA still has a lot to prove…stamina, game understanding, taking care of the ball. He picks up his dribble and has silly turnovers that are costly. A huge one in the Valpo game. It is interesting to compare the football forum and basket ball forum with the soccer forum. It really is the only forum that I like. The soccer forum is positive and an exchange for ideas and information. You really should pay attention to GoZips in bball. He may be abrasive at times…but he knows bball.
  6. I said a few weeks ago that the biggest problem this year is figuring out who to play. Looks like the team is staring to help KD make that decision. The lineup should and will be: Zeke Tree Diggs Harney AA With Walsh as 6th man and Nik and Egner as rotation subs. Not sure what role Nitro will play. Keep in mind, Nik has been largely silent this season, while Tree and Harney have played themselves into the lineup. Now if only anyone besides Zeke could sink a free throw. The key to success this season is going to be to feed the ball to Zeke. MAC teams will find it very hard to defend him, and with Tree crashing the boards we should get many many putbacks. Prescription drugs??
  7. +1 Their tallest player is only 6'8" (if you ignore the three guys who are 7'1", 6'10" and 6'9") The 6'9 an 6'10 guys haven't played a minute fr Valpo. And the 7'1 guy averages 8 minutes a game with 1.3 PPG 2.7 RPG and 0 blocks From your mouth to God's iPad. I have a bad feeling both are in for a breakout game. You and your Ouija board.
  8. Drove up from Columbus with some friends to watch the game. My impressions from the game: 1. We lost the ball on lots of errant passes. Especially during the second half. 2. We do not often regain possession when Meves kicks the ball to midfield. Why?? 3. The attendance was much smaller than expected. And quieter. No band to blame. I made the trip because I was impressed by the email from CP. It was a 4.5 hour round trip for me. 4. Holmes is a monster in tight space. It opened up at least 3 opportunities. Like how he played today. 5. Referees were very inconsistent. Most of the bad calls went against the Zips…but a few went our way. I would prefer a well called game and let the chips fall where they may. It was a great experience. My friend and his daughter loved the game and they are OSU grads. Liked it when the students on the hill started the ZI PS chant…and I tried to get my area involved out of respect for mes102 and the other Rowdies here. Wish there was more chanting…it does make the game and culture unique. Go Zips
  9. Every year my business partner's family and my family go to a OSU game. He and his daughter are graduates from OSU graduate (daughter is a recent graduate). We get a condo and spend the week in Columbus. John, his daughter and I made the 2+ hour trip from Columbus to Akron to watch the game (and to drop off GRE results for his daughter's grad school application). He lives in Florida and was only wearing long shorts, hoodie and canvas jacket. We sat the whole game in the reserve section. So please…if an OSU grad can sit in that cold wearing shorts…I think an Akron student/alumni/fan should have been able to handle the weather.
  10. Dave, This is the only board I have ever posted on. It is not my nature to participate in these forums. But it is debate/discussion about the Zips..so that interests me. My initial foray onto this board was in defense of you on some highly analytical position you took a year or so ago. My respect for your rational and analytical view is always there…even if we do not always agree. With regard to your opening post in this thread…I admire the courage it took for you to write this and know that you would not have done so without much forethought. I want you to know that I agree 100% with all you wrote. Favoritism and inequality cause people to be frustrated and give up...and go away. I would be very disappointed if those I perceive to be “out of favor” would get frustrated and leave. And I certainly don’t feel like a “friend of Bill” …so my opinion probably does not matter anyway. And...for the most part...ZNO is a great place. Kudos to those who made it happen.
  11. This is a topic that will be difficult for many to discuss. If you are not on the _hit list...you surely will not want that to change by saying something offending or stupid. If you ARE on the _hit list...well you will certainly not want to dig your hole deeper if you want to continue participating. Then there are the many members that don’t have a clue what you are referring to because it does not affect them. The odds are that these guys spend their time and money so they can have a forum that THEY enjoy...not what you or I would do or enjoy. So we have only a few options...get in line and play ball as the referees want...take your ball and go home....or find a new game. It really does not matter if we think there are some inequities. The simple fact is that despite its warts…ZNO is still the best (and only) game in town.
  12. Doug I'm going to say this as nicely as possible: You really have no clue about the dynamics of a locker room if you think bringing in that many guys from another program to play for one year won't completely destroy a team. That being said, this just sounds like a crazy rumor to me. Surely Ianello, despite all his shortcomings, isn't that hair-brained. To me...it does not seem like it would be a problem (except for the QB). But I will defer to you in this case as I trust your opinion about the locker room.
  13. This rumor is so bizarre and so new that I'm still boggled right now & don't really know what to think. But your angle is what I'm thinking/feeling right now. It just sounds extremely insulting to the current players. And for a single-season fix? It really seems to reek of desperation - which, of course, iCoach is probably feeling right now. If this is true, it can't be taken as a good sign of the over all health of the program. At least with JUCO transfers you get them for two years. Current team: OL 5 seniors in 2 deep depth chart DL 5 seniors in 2 deep depth chart (including Marcoux who is out for the year) LB 1 senior and one walk on in 2 deep depth chart From what is rumored to be coming in...I don't see it as a problem with the locker room. 3 linemen coming in and losing 10. Can't see that as an issue. Adding one WR to a talented but thin group. Since 4-5 play each week....can't see that as an issue. The LBs could be an issue and so could the safety. But we are so young and inexperienced at those positions that it should not be a problem. A one year bridge at each of those positions would help the development of the team while improving the chance at winning. The big issue will be at QB. If they bring this guy in he will expect to start and having worked with Powlus for 2 years (at ND) the impression of Moore and Nicely will be that too. I did not expect Nicely to stay next year and would expect to lose Moore to if this new guy came in. They would have to really like D’Orazio a lot if they make that move. If they have given up on Moore…make the move. Why do people criticize iCoach for losing players because they supposedly don't like him and then criticize him for guys coming in to play for him that supposedly like him?? iCoach can do nothing right (and...he has made enough mistakes for people to have enough to criticize him for without looking for stuff). http://www.gozips.com/sports/fball/2011-12..._(11-14-11).pdf
  14. The link doesn't work. Just tell us. HEARD that Akron will be getting a ton of 5th year ND guys -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- next year. Dayne Crist Anthony McDonald Dan McCarthy Deion Walker Brandon Newman David Posluzny Lane Clelland Hafis Williams Are all talking with Coach I and Powlus about transfering into Akron and playing 1 year to get a better shot at the NFL. Not being totally familiar with the rules, but how would this be possible without sitting out a year? Graduating players can go to a different school and play immediately if the school they are going to has a graduate program not currently being offered that their current school.. And how are we in deep crap if that happens? That is a great influx of talent, although just for one year. I cant imagine all of those players coming though, maybe one or two... People have said iCoach ran off up to 50 people (although I think that is BS...would like to see 50 names). If we add these 8 guys it should help replace some of those 50...who would be Jrs or Srs next year. Can't see how this is bad or how any rational person could complain. I hope this happens. Oh yea...and it adds 8 good students to the team for our acedemic statistics. No downside to this.
  15. I love Faust. Always have. He made some critical mistakes coming out of Moeller going to ND....but all first year college HCs make mistakes. How fast they learn is the real issue.
  16. Zach...why don't provide some useful information. How were these guys rated and what other offers did they have coming out of HS??

  19. I agree about it being on the players. Caleb can do a lot of things, but he can't step onto the pitch and play for these guys. Folks have complained that he's made changes in the line up. Don't you think he's looking for the right strings to pull. It's easy to sit back here and second guess. I'm sure he's second guessed himself as well, but it all comes down to the players executing. I don't recall the Zips being blown out in any game this season. Just one or 2 things falling into place in any of our ties or losses and the game goes our way. Since I've never led a college team to a national championship nor have I been selected to lead my country's soccer team in qualifying for the Olympics, I think I'll be supportive of our Mens Soccer Head Coach, go to the game and cheer for him and our players rather than disputing his decisions. I don't think anyone is disputing Porter's decisions...at least I hope not. I agree with you 100%. I trust Porter to to put is in the best situation to win. Go Zips
  20. Or Miami...Coles always has a tough squad. There are no easy teams this year in the East. How is BG this year???
  21. And Detroit will likely be tougher than either of them... We have to root for programs like Detroit, Cleveland State and Wright State as they are programs that will come to the JAR. Wish Dayton and Xavier would come more often.
  22. And Detroit will likely be tougher than either of them... You can't always plan on how your opponents will do in any given year....but this OC schedule is shaping up to be pretty good. Our SOS and RPI will likely be higher than it has in many years.
  23. +1. But these are interesting times. I've been a religious follower of UA basketball for about 20-years now, but the early-season success we experienced in beating a BCS team is uncharted waters for me. IIRC, we've always lost those early-season matchups. I'm still concerned about Valpo & Duquesne this weekend. I am new to internet communication lingo. What does IIRC mean??
  24. Another great video. We have a better marketing department than I was led to believe.. Good job. Ooooh, that video is indeed sweet. But, as far as "marketing" goes, who's going to see it unless they visit GoZips.com or search for it on youtube? Wonder if they're purchasing a few televised ads? We've got to place those videos in places where others, besides diehard Zips fans, will see them. Good point. I wonder if there is a wider distribution than just GoZips.com The videos are well done and should be linked on many sites.
  25. Another great video. We have a better marketing department than I was led to believe.. Good job.
