  1. These guys have had 3 months of practice since spring. It's time to see what they can do. There won't be much pressure with mostly parents and girl friends in attendance.
  2. Clark, this season is a dumpster fire. Any additional hot air will only fan the flemes!
  3. That didn't work out too well when we tried TB. I know that a win over Cant is top priority, but l think our best chance is to give our young QB's a chance. They will have a few extra days to work with the No one's, and remember they have been leading our scout team against a D that is probably much better than Cants. If l see JU or TB start next Wednessday, I'll go straight to the hard stuff to ease my pain. Remember JU is rated 159 out of 160! I don't think TB has enough attemps to be rated.
  4. Pro Football Focus rates QB play. Out of 160 QB's with minimal action, Jeff Underperformer is listed 159; one better than Iowa's Deacon Hill. I say again; can either of the young QB's perform any worse? It truely is time to find out!!
  5. Our 2 young QB's have a couple of spring practices and have been running the scout team. It is not like they have no idea what's up. They will keep their red shirt if that was a concern. Can they perform any worse? It's time to find out!
  6. I'll help. U of Iowa had 2 .500 seasons from 1961 through 1980. Thay's 20 long years without a winning season.
  7. If we take away 4 rushing plays, we held Brown to way under 100 yards!
  8. Ouch! If you invite a recriut, you better be ready with your A-game.
  9. 72 Roo listed much that needs to be addressed. I would add the 2 point attemps in OT. Both IU chances had wide open recievers. We had no chance? I still think we can have a soccessful season.
  10. Interesting to read; however I think they were just looking at the stats. Aside of 2 long TD's(one of which was redicules), our D did pretty well at UK. I have not looked at any film; it just seemed to me that UK got most of their pressure with stunts. One more week together could make a big difference there. The QB doesn't need 5 seconds to get the ball down field, he needs to get a better read before the snap to look for his best target. I can even put up with some thows behind the line of scrimage if they get the ball in front of the reciever; so he is headed down field ATC. I know it won't be easy, but our leaders (players and coaches) need to get everyone to play expecting to win rather than playing not to loose. That doesn't mean pulling out all the tricks from the back of the play book. Just dig deep, and play within yourself. I know that an Akron W will be an upset, but I'm tuning in tonight expecting to fly the flag.
  11. UA. 24 IU. 17 I think most hoped for a 2/2 start; this is our chance. The Hooshers generated a lot of offense without putting up points. That will continue this week. We will continue to show the need for much improvement, but do enough to fly the flag.
  12. Were there new faces on the OL this week?
  13. We saw a much improved Zip squad, but penalties continue to be a problem. Irons may need more time to recover from off season surgery, but next week should give us an oportunity to look at #2QB. The 2 late sacks were not entirely the fault of the OL. Temple totally sold out on the run and went all out on rushing the passer. Often the biggest improvement comes in the second game. I'm hopefull.
  14. 8-5 OC: 2-2 Temple-W How we look in Philly will tell us a lot. MAC: 5-3 Tough bounces finally go our way, but just miss Detroit. Wagon wheel comes home. Bowl: W G5 match up
  15. If Bullock pans out (3 years of eligability), we may see Wasel in the portal. I would hope that Morehead can find the oportunity to give Wasel some meaningful minutes without loosing his redshirt year. Keeping both engaged this year could lead to some great competition in '24.
  16. A few years ago we had a beast at RB that churned out the yards with an under talanted freshman line. It looks like with additions and experience our O line will be at least OK or much better. Maybe LL and the rest of the RB's will keep us ballanced. I think Irons is a decent runner, but he tends to get beat up. We will need a back up ready to take over since Morehead expe.cs the QB to run a bit The V Tech guy just may over take Irons. On D, a pass rush may be the best help for our secondary. (Second best would be the offense controlling the ball more and finishing with some TD's.). As catdaddyp has researched, we have improved our tallent. Will these men blend into a team? I think we have the coaching tallent to get the best out of this group and meld them into a team. Temple will be a great chance to for tell the season. Probably better than us on paper; let's see how well we measure up on the field!
  17. PRACTICE 10! OOO! OOO! The information overload is just driving my excitement meter so far .... down that I hardly care if the fall season ever arrives.
  18. I wonder how much Kentucky will offer to buy their way out of that visit?
  19. i don't know anything about the voting, but Kris Murry is staring for Iowa this season emerging out from the shadow of his twin brother Kenyon. Kenyon was in attenance in Evanston last week when Iowa played Northwestern. every time Kris got the ball, the NW students chanted "Kenyon's better".
  20. I was thinking the same way. Perhaps the early enrollee recriut will give us some help. He could bulk up and get some experience with spring ball. We need some quickness off the edge to give our pass rush some life!
  21. Hey bigjim, keep in mind that the final rating will come next fall. One must also consider the other side of the equation: what did others loose to the portal ( and graduation) before we try ntp predict where we stand in the MAC. Right now, it looks like we have gained much morer than we lost. What about the rest of ther MAC?
  22. Media deals will not pay for the programs. Student fees can only go so high. As the haves seperate themselves from who? How many P5 programs pay their own way now? Advertisers don't have any skin in the game. When the return for their advertising dollars is better placed elsewhere, media contracts will shrink. How many ads are you seeing now on our ESPN+ broadcasts? I think GP1 has been right all along; except, I think we (G5) will see many P5 "have nots" want to join us. Let the big boys play an NBA style championship into March. The rest of us can still put an enjoyable product out there.
  23. At what point will the finacial weight bring every thing crashing down? I hardly follow professional sports; because of the cost to attend a game. I'm not renewing my season tickets to Iowa State football because of the increasing required donation along with ticket prices. Des Moines will host first round games for the NCAA BB. At $100 per game, I'll pass (unless by some miracle the Zips are playing).
