Zips win. 31--24
-
No 4 RB also leaving UNLV. I love all the finger pointing.

The only question for Saturday is how bad the score will be. OSU is loaded with talent, but they can only play 11 at a time. I would think our guys have much more to prove than any of the Buckeyes. Our guys will want to show a national audience that they belong; they will not roll over and play dead! OSU. 48 --Zips. 20

Recruit ranks reflect their offer list. Many diamonds in the ruff are overlooked. Injuries could push a recruit off a big time offer. Out side of P4/5, recruit rank is suspect. Some players need more time to mature. When one looks at the turn over though out the MAC, who is to know the players who were overlooked, slowed by injuries, or late bloomers. QB play could make or break our season. I like to think positive. OOC: 1-3. MAC: 5-3. (Positive only goes so far; one must be a bit realistic.)

'23 had 3 OT games---3 one score losses in the MAC '24. 1-3. OOC --- 5-3 MAC Everyone in the MAC will have many new faces this year.

I don't know who has the pick, but l think 25 is a good number.

That was easy. Coaches got us summer jobs back then. We were on a mixed crew with football and BB players. I was on one end of our clay pipe line, and Bill was on the other end.

Bill Turner?

I watched Iowa State last weekend, and it was like any scrimmage I' ve been a part of except the D wore white and occupied one sideline with the O in black on the other. I actually think this was better than a game. Nobody was stuck on their own 2 yard line. It was quick to see what the 2's and 3's could do in the same place on the field. The QB's wore green--no hitting them. I do hope you have a bit more pleasant weather!!

Saturday April 20th Practice/Scrimmage Pics and Notes
Ham replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
How was the weather? I was in Ames this morning to watch the Cyclones, and I was reminded that 40* with 20MPH wind is COLD. Your pics and brief info can go a long way generating some interest in the Zips. I hope there is a good turnout next week for the spring "game". -
A lot could be learned. Who are the leaders emerging? Captain is hearing that Finley is looking good.. Looking? Is he completing nice passes? Short throws? Long throws? Is he executing nice reads on the option plays? Are there surprises showing up? Sometimes effort is telling. Like who may be headed to the portal. If you keep the team a secret until September, it will remain a secret! Maybe Captain will be our SI Saturday.
-
Why? If the Zips care so little about their fans 2/3 through spring ball that they don't put out any information, why should I care? Closed practices? Who is going to spy on them? If you looked at your future schedule and saw a team with 5 wins in 5 years, would you even send your "water boy" to check out their spring practice? The best way to keep the Info seats empty in the fall is to keep the team a secret.

One late comment: Trib took only 2 free throws in the game! CLUTCH!!

OK. Class & character are different, but they go together. I've been schooled.

What can JD bring to the table? "Class"! When Kent's star went down for the count early in the season, JD reached out personally to that young man. Football is a violent game, but charactor maters (think Gathings). I hope JD can play a major role in evaluating recriutes; so we can all be proud of our Zips win or loose. I remember as a high school kid briefly meeting Lou Groza at Hiram college. What a kind and humble guy. An hour or so later, I sat with a couple buddies in the grass a few feet off the side line, and watched that same man transformed. When the whistle blows, I want to see that violence come out, but do it with class.

Class of '24 Recruits & Verbal Commitments
Ham replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
When do spring classes begin? It would be nice to see some of these portal & JUCO guys early enroll. It would be really nice to include a QB or 2; so they would have the spring practices to get acclimated. -
He would have been a team mate of Irons at Iowa wcc.

POOP! There was no QB under the tree. Oh well. Russian Christmas is in 2 weeks. -

I am really perplexed that we didn't see Wasel at all this year. He could have retained his red shirt after apearing in 4 games. QB room: Bullack--He can run, but can we move the ball against 8 men on the line of scrimage? Wasel--Who knows? In coming freshman--good luck. Potential JUCO or portal addition--Maybe our best hope. -

If we don't see at least 2 portal additions, we are in trouble! -
In those '50's, football players played both ways except the QB and defensive sprcialist. They were also limited to 33 players on the travle squad. I can't rermember if there were any transfer rules.

This should be head line news on the Beacon's sports page! Have any suckeyes been recognized like this recently? Does "Eager Beaver" belong to USBWA?
-
Not to diminish any player past or present, but could there be a better representative for Akron BB? If 25 stays healthy for the season, he should appear in everyone's All American team!
