Akron 2 Buffalo 1 2 goals by Nick Hinds assists by Sam and Jonathan 25-4 in shots 9-2 in shots on goal 15-0 in corner kicks This season has its ups and downs....much credit to the resilient team... They took care of business this weekend. Congratulations Tremendous improvement during the season by Jonathan Lewis and Nick Hinds I also have to give a lot of credit to Coach Embick and the coaching staff. Moving Nick Hinds from left DB to the midfield made a huge difference for this team and moving Goncalo Soares from a holding mid position to right def. back was also a very underrated move. Looking forward to the draw tomorrow and see what challenges await this team. Tremendous job by the best sports team on the akron campus.

It was outstanding that so many starters only had to play 45 to 55 minutes last night. it was great that Jared had the confidence to rest Stuart and Sam at the start of the 2nd half and that their replacements (Ezana and Marcel) both delivered goals in the 2nd half. Goncalo Soares may not be the fastest soccer player but he delivered a perfect pass on the 2nd half header goal

http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-soccer-member-of-2010-national-championship-team-sees-zips-starting-to-play-style-that-reaps-success-1.726273 Very classy.....by Ampai to stop by practice on Monday......to provide advice and feedback to the 2016 team it was great to hear that 2 great former players...Richie Laryea and Ampai were at at last Saturday's match -
The Indians magical run to the 7th game of the world Series correctly had many Beacon Journal writers focused on our favorite baseball team. I am always glad to see the zips featured in articles by Marla Ridenour. I hope this helps attendance for the MAC tourney. The zips always play better with a large crowd. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-men-s-soccer-senior-adam-najem-s-role-less-visible-but-no-less-important-as-zips-try-to-qualify-for-ncaa-tournament-1.725754?cache=18961415304345%2Fnews%2Fohio%2Fcss%2Fresults.css%2Frk%3D0

game is actually at Bowling Green (according to BGSU web site)
-
http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/releases/20161104o11dzs After the lightly attended 4 pm game, I hope that there is a big crowd on Saturday night. If Bowling Green defeats Buffalo on Saturday night, this November 5 game is likely to be the last game that Adam Najem, Brad Ruhaak, and the other 3 seniors will likely ever play on cub Cadet field.

One indisputable fact that is a takeaway from the Grand Canyon game...Akron should never schedule another 4 pm game on a weekday. I know it was a result of a football game being moved to Wednesday for TV purposes. However, many season ticket holders could not come to a 4 pm game. Students did not have time for both the football game and the soccer game. The soccer student athletes were the ones that did not benefit as they did not have the normal crowd support that they have earned and that they did deserve. Moving the game to 4 pm on a weekday to accommodate football...was not a good decision for zips mens soccer

I think they play Toledo at 7 or 7;30...that was why the soccer game time was changed

Hopefully, today will be a very good day....for Northeast Ohio...a convincing win for the zips soccer team...and then the Indians win the series. Go, soccer zips....Go Tribe.

at BGSU (Saturday, 10/29/2016)
TennZip replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I don't see the zips in person as often as many of you. However, the lineup that faced BGSU had nowhere near the talent as last year's final four team BGSU - Shane Wiedt and Brad Ruhaak...as Danilo has been injured last two matches College cup...Danilo and Brad... Shane has improved greatly but he is not at Danilo's level Left Def. back...Andrew Souders vs. Niko De Vera...Niko played behind Andrew last year. Andrew was all league multiple times. No comparison in talent level of the 4 defensive players Forward - Stuart was at the top of his game last year in the NCAA's. Stuart played very little against BGSU. Stuart has dealt with knee issues all year so the center forward position does not have the same talent level. Midfield - Richie Laryea was the #6 or #7 overall pick. His speed opened up so much space for Adam, Sam, and Stuart. As ZIPME87 said, Nick and Jonathan will improve greatly but they would not be a top 7 draft pick after this year. Holding midfield...Victor will go down in Akron history as one of the best holding midfielders to ever play at Akron. Pau Belana and Goncalo Soares have gigantic shoes to fill on both defense and offense. This team can still do well....but they need Stuart and Danilo back healthy and they need to have the same 11 players available for the remaining matches in the regular season and post season. To say that the talent is very similar.......is a statement that I can not agree with -

I think that a large % of people from the Copley/Fairlawn areas will be traveling to BGSU for this game. I sure do hope that the Copley/Fairlawn folks supporting Brad Ruhaak and Skye Harter are much happier at the end of the game than the copley fans pulling for Chris Brennan. I hope that both Brad and Skye have big games. -
3:08 GOAL by AKR HINDS, Nick, Assist by RUHAAK, Brad, goal number 1 for season. 2-0 Nick Hinds in the midfield.....looks like a shrewd mover

from tOSU twitter 5' | Goal Akron. Pass deflected and played to Jonathan Lewis who scores from 12 yards out.

ME87....thanks for your "pitch side" observations....just to give everyone a clue which comment that I am referring to....I added "on-field leaders" to your original quote Missing 2 out of the 3 names....clearly has made a huge difference. I think that my feelings about Victor were made pretty evident in my October 1 'treatise" but I will just say that his will to win is unmatched and I am thankful that Victor came to Akron and I loved to watch this young man do his best for Akron. Jake was a very underrated competitor. We all watched Jake out compete and out work a much more talented GK in Fernando Pina. My praise of Jake is in no way an indictment of Ben Lundt. The final score may show that Ben allowed 3 goals. With a less skilled goalie, the count easily would have been 5 or 6. The stats showed that the WVA goalie made 5 saves and Ben only made 4 saves. In the business world, we often say that there are 2 kinds of statisticans...Liars and dam*n liars. The stats clearly lie here as they don't measure the difficulty of the save. The WVA keeper's saves came on shots from the side that had no hope of finding the net or on 40 foot shots where the zips were playing 2 vs 6. Ben had several punch outs that were very good. Ben was asked to make saves on 1 vs. 2 breaks where the WVA 1 was much faster than our 2 DB's or on 2 vs. 3 breaks where the WVA 2 were much faster than our 3 DB's. I know that I share in everyone's discouragement but Ben Lundt was the zip that I had the most empathy for on Saturday night. The stats will show that the other team scored 3 goals. To me, that does not mean that Ben Lundt did not make some spectacular saves. Jake was a senior that had earned the respect of his teammates by outworking Pina. Jake had earned the right to be vocal and a leader. Ben is a first year zip and it is much harder for him to bark out orders to a 3 or 4 year starter like a Brad Ruhaak or 2 year starters like senior Danilo Radjen or junior Nate Shultz. I have really liked what I have seen from Ben and I really felt empathetic for Ben on Saturday night.

It is unbelievable to me that Portland did not win a game on the road all year. After Saad's penalty kick last year that bounced off the cross bar many times (and helped Portland to advance), I will be rooting for sporting KC to do well this year.
-
Zach, I don't sit close enough to the field to hear the talk. On last year's team, who were the "on-field leaders"?.
