Who isn't? Is there a link to follow? Did I miss something? I'm confused ... I'm guessing this is the link?Linky

That's some very high praise.Wow, no kidding! Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern) and J Leman (Illinois) immediately come to mind. Vince also was the DC for the 2001 Big 12 champs (Colorado). Okruch must REALLY like this kid. I did notice in the Beacon photos from the 1st scrimmage that Wagner seemed to be in a lot of them. I can't wait to see him play.

No problem. I would have thought JD might be a little higher on the list too, but there are some "good" candidates across the country. I still don't know how Snyder survived at Marshall to coach this season.
-
Why is that surprising? A coach who has been sub-.500 for the last 3 seasons, opening a new stadium with high expectations. If anything I'm a little surprised his seat isn't hotter.

ESPN's Schlabach has a column on the nation's "hot", "warm", and "luke warm" seats. Not surprisingly, JD's is judged as one of three "warm" seats in the MAC.ESPN Link

Syracuse has 27 players leave team in the offseason
johnnyzip84 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
With the spotlight being on Paulus at QB and all of the turnover on their roster, let's not forget two key players that 'Cuse welcomes back in WR Mike Williams (missed our game last year due to academics) and NT Arthur Jones (a monster......well maybe not his hands). Both of these guys will likely play in the NFL. If they happen to both put in outstanding performances on Oct 24, that will make this game much tougher. Also, I noticed that SU has a off week prior to the game, while the Zips are in Buffalo. -
Even though it's been MANY years since I felt this particualr "angst", I sure can agree with you on this point. Man I hated the Townhouse back in the day for that policy

Awesome! Thanks!

Well if you like that rich, old fashioned, artery clogging, frozen custard (NOT the DQ imposter), Strickland's is very good (see linky).Linky

It may be a challenge to debate PSWho_84, but I've always enjoyed a challenge.First off, Big Brother, the master’s degree from G-Town isn’t buying you any leniency here. Some of us remember those privileged brats in "St. Elmo’s Fire" I thought it might be fun to compare State College and Akron. These comparisons are COMPLETELY unbiased of course."Normal" Population: Akron 207,510 (2008 wiki) State College 38,720 (2007 wiki) --> advantage AkronMost Famous Band: Akron DEVO State College JoePa and the Geriatrics, Artery or Katsu --> advantage AkronMost Famous Female "Rocker": Akron Chrissie Hynde State College Sue Paterno --> advantage AkronBest Ice Cream: Akron Strickland's State College The Creamery --> TIEPerforming Arts Halls: Akron Civic Theatre/EJ Thomas State College State Theatre --> TIELocal Hamburger Joint: Akron Menches State College Baby's --> Advantage AkronLocal Brewpub: Akron Ohio Brewing Company State College Otto's Pub & Brewery --> advantage AkronSo you can see (and as Dr. Proenza loves to tell us), the "Akron advantage" is clear in this match up! Go Zips!!!

ESPN ranks the Zips 3rd
johnnyzip84 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The Tulsa tournament will provide a good early indication of where the Zips belong in the polls. While SMU APPEARS to be down, the host Golden Hurricane is ranked #14. Two wins here would be an excellent start. -
While it's a little annoying on one level, I really have to applaud the restraint of these PSU fans as they have their discussion here on Zipsnation regarding linebacker depth. So far I haven't seen "Linebacker U" even once! Seriously, even you guys must get tired of that one. I mean, can ESPN cover a Penn State game without saying it? One of you (hint....George Orwell) did manage to drop the "State" bomb. To some folks (not me, trust me) you can only be refering to a certain school in Columbus when using that word in the context of college football.
-
+1!! "The other" '84 is a good guy in my book....well at least as PSU fans go Should we tell him that "roasted roo" presents a choking hazard to BCS conference teams?ps. I know they're both gone, but doesn't Kennedy look sweet streaking past Paul Posluszny on UAFan's siggy?

Zak Goes Off at Home Depot
johnnyzip84 replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Getting only their 2nd win on the road all season, this is exactly what the Sounders needed. In reading on a few other sites, it seems like there were quite a few Sounders fans in attendance. -
I haven't seen these ads yet, but I did happen to catch a recent Chris Mortensen interview with Eli Manning. When asked which receivers would be picking up the slack in 2009 for those recently departed, the only one mentioned by name (by Eli) was Hixon (as part of his explanation that it would be "by committee").

Welcome aboard the board, ChristianZIP I agree with both of you that there is a unique opportunity for the Zips on the gridiron this year. Let's all hope they seize it and have a season to remember. And don't mind "the meister". He's an equal opportunity "grammar Nazi". He's also harmless, though slightly bitter at times and quite often very funny. Go Zips!

Thanks Zip N' Dots! I'll pick one up on Monday.I have the outmost respect for Tressel, as do seemingly most of the people who have followed his career. That doesn't mean I have to like his selection to author of the foreword to this book. Actually while I am basically an un-apologetic Buckeye anti-fan, it's Jim's association with longtime nemesis YSU that really bugs me with this selection. His Penguin teams kicked our butts and as a Zip fan I have bad memories of those meetings. I also feel that the UA program should be able to have a summary publication that can stand on its own merit. Sure (as GP1 points out) there may be relatively few high moments to celebrate in Zip football history, but every program deserves a publication like this for hardcore fans. And let's face it, Tressel is a footnote of a footnote in UA football history, regardless of the commendable acts he's undertaken towards the University. I'm sure glad this book's available, irrespective of the controversial foreword.

I muttered to my wife when I saw this detail, "now I HAVE to go out and get one ". This does look like a must for Zip fans. I think it was smart of her (or whoeever) to have the release be timed with the opening of the Info. If anyone sees this in the campus bookstore, please post. I'd just as soon pick on up there, but I won't be able to get there until Monday.

Syracuse has 27 players leave team in the offseason

I hear what your saying about depth and numbers and the fact the Orange just weren't very good last year. But there are a few things that COULD make this a (cliche alert) "trap" game.1) If Marrone is "the guy", I wouldn't necessarily conclude that losing these players is the end of the world for SU. Sometimes you get addition by subtraction in these situations.2) This game comes a week after a trip to Buffalo. Whatever the result is there, the Zip coaches will have their work cut out for them to get the team ready for another trip to the Carrier Dome.3) Syracuse's fan are much more likely to be involved. They HATED Greg Robinson.4) With the game being mid-season, that gives the Orange a little time to become more comfortable with new the new system.Having sais this, I think the Zips should win the game. I just don't think we should be counting on a blow-out at this point. Do you think a few UC fans might have been expecting a blow-out at the Rubber Bowl last year? Give me the "W" in any way, shape or form in this one. -
I picked the Zips against Western on the CBS board a while back, and I'm sticking with it. This will be the year Hiller has it over Le"Flavour".
-
Hey Stevie.......you look mighty cute in them jeans!
-
"that Tonganator right there is killing me!!!"
-
I'm sorry, good doctor, but I couldn't possibly disagree more about LeFevour. He's a classic product of a college system and consequently his game does not translate effectively to the pro level IMHO. I tell you what. I'll do the naked angel thing with the Can't T-shirt if proven otherwise. Or else I'll promise NOT to do it. Your choice

I opened up a thread over there too, just to make sure he at least pays attention to us.
