  1. Most of us know you lived there previously Dave, but I don't believe most UM fans care one way or another about the Ohio MAC schools. The majority will simply look at an upset as a way to avoid a perceived bigger hurdle in VCU.
  2. I'm sure glad games aren't won on paper. It's true that dealing with"havoc" will be a challenge, but it's not like the Zips don't present some matchup difficulties as well. I like the idea of using Zeke on the inbounds and having him make diagonal outlet passes off of it. I also believe we can win the rebounding by a nice margin if the effort is the same as we've seen lately. Tree is a tough opponent for anyone. I think it'll come down to 3-point shooting and FT shooting. We're showing signs of turning it around with the former (have a feeling that both Chauncey and Walsh will be effective) and hopefully things will improve with the latter. Also it's not hard to imagine the Michigan crowd pulling for the Zips in this one. Keep it close and the several thousand Zip fans will be joined by 2 or 3 times as many Maize and Blue. This could get REALLY loud. I can't wait to be there. Go Zips!!!!!
  3. Well said, K92! This has to rank up there with the 2005 football championship and the 2011 victory over K.E.N.T. in the MAC tourney championship as my all-time Zip moments. This is a compel!ling story for the ages. Let's keep it gong, Zips! Another chapter is underway!
  4. We didn't see any extended zone from the Zips last night. I expect to see at least a little of that tonight, with Harney out front.
  5. Not that your typical post deserves much of a reply, but does this phrasing strike anyone else as being particularly odd coming from a supposed fan of the Zips?
  6. I looked for a while and I wasn't able to find it. I'm pretty sure it was in one of the hundred or so "conference expansion" threads.
  7. Yeah, that won't sit too well with my Pitt friends back home! This story REALLY painted UA in a positive light. Thanks for posting it, Mama Zeke! Born and raised in Pittsburgh, I have always wished for some good publicity back home and to see KDKA carrying a story like this it's almost too good to be true. Go get 'em tonight, Zeke! Go Zips!!
  8. I'll admit, U@B reminds me a little of the Akron squad that beat the Bulls in the 2009 championship game. The Zips struggled to win their 1st game that year, just like the Bulls barely squeaked by CMU earlier this week. I'm not ready to say they'll win tonight yet though.
  9. Why would you let Tony Watson fire away from 3? Down the stretch, he has been crazy from behind the arc.
  10. Now I enjoy IPA's, but I generally have to be in the mood to fully appreciate that flowery hop explosion of a double. The latest offering from Great Lakes, however, is an amazingly smooth double IPA that is one of those truly dangerous brews (9.4% ABV but goes down so easily). You need to try one if you get a chance.
  11. Very true B&G, but he IS listed in the recruiting class so I thought the writer might at least make mention of him. It's clearly nitpicking on my part I admit Whether C.J. gains eligibility or not is certainly a huge unknown heading into the season, but as TB stated when discussing his 2013 class he does have "friends" in the Tallahassee area
  12. UAZip0510, I think you are spot on We've all been focusing much of the discussion on offense, and understandably so given Alex's role all year. But I'm really curious to see whether KD might try to take advantage of the increased size and speed available on DEFENSE with the lineups UAZip0510 has summarized. Certainly the man-to-man should be more effective, but the extended zone and full/half court traps should also be better. The Zips stumbled through their "shock moment" in the 1st half of the last game. The next opponent won't have that going for them. I expect a far more composed team in Cleveland.
  13. The writer missed a few of the newcomers (C.J. Mizell and Deon'Tae Moore come to mind), but I was really surprised by the level of detail otherwise. He also seemed to have a pretty accurate pulse on the current situation. GP1, I don't think you can overstate that point. I absolutely agree, with the only concern being that I hope KP16 becomes adept at protecting himself. Unless a Prather or Franco develops out of the blue, I think we might see true FR Tommy Woodson as the backup QB. Dr Z, the age difference between Milwee and Amato is quite remarkable. TB made it a point during the pizza party to state how pleased he was to hold onto the entire staff, even though they received plenty of inquiries. This might be another silver lining to a 1-11 debut.
  14. I think a big adjustment KD will need to work on with Melo is his propensity to foul early and often. Melo will need to be far more discriminating when trying for steals and trying to draw charges. I also hope to see Walsh and/or McAdams playing some point.
  15. I might lose my voice before the tipoff I'll be cheering so loudly for the seniors tomorrow night (I apologize up front to the people in front of me.....they don't like my cheering very much). I hope they all enjoy the moment with their family, friends and all of Zipsnation. Go Zips!!!
  16. No problem, K92! This deserves its own thread. Good summary
  17. At the early season ticket event before the hoops game tonight, Coach Bowden took a few questions after giving us his thoughts on the 2013 season. Zips Win! asked whether the QB job was KP16's heading into spring ball. Coach said Pohl is #1 although there is always competition at every position. He said Kyle has an "NFL arm" and can run a 4.6 forty. He mentioned how the staff had reviewed the 2012 seasons of the other 5 or 6 teams that run the "Texas Tech" offense and how most of them ran for over 200 yards per game. He plans for Pohl to help with that figure for the Zips in 2013. But he still wants a thrower who can run when needed as opposed to a runner who can throw when needed. On a side note, DW13 is working with the staff in some capacity, helping out with the QBs. I think he'll help out quite a bit.
  18. Big Zip is absolutely correct about the matchup difficulty, and I don't care about the Bulls overall record (they've been slowly figuring out what to do without Oldham). The ONLY reason why the Zips prevailed in the 1st game is because U@B had a 5 minute "deer in the headlights" stretch facing the Zips' zone. Reggie Witherspoon is an EXCELLENT "schemer" and it shouldn't be a surprise that they were ready for the zone this time around. Their adjustment was simple. Either they penetrated to the foul line and kicked it out or they found McCrea in the middle for the kick out. Of course, it helps to have a 6'8", chiseled, savvy POTY candidate on your side (although that was a bit of a cheap shot on Jake). It's true that trap games are real, but it's equally true that basketball is now, and always has been, a game of matchups. I still believe the Zips can get it done. But right now I wouldn't assume anything. K.E.N.T. is playing much better, U@B is a tough matchup and OU is OU. The Zips will have to earn their way into the NCAAs. I don't see anything unfair about that. Let's get the Redhawks on Tuesday and regain the swagger!
  19. Congrats on the 19 game streak, Zips! Let's start another one, with far more importance, on Tuesday. Go Zips!!!
  20. Congrats on the 19 game streak, Zips! Let's start another one, with far more importance, on Tuesday. Go Zips!!!
  21. Congrats on the 19 game streak, Zips! Let's start another one, with far more importance, on Tuesday. Go Zips!!!
  22. Before we lay this all on "effort" let's remember how well U@B played the Zips in game 1 at the JAR. Now that Reggie had some time to work with the Bulls against our zone, they were pretty effective against it this time around. Perhaps the matchup isn't ideal fo the Zips?? It wouldn't break my heart NOT to see them in Cleveland.
