  1. Count me in on the viewing party. Great Idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Im sure a lot has been talked about and our inabilities to make it to a bowl game. However, I just a little research, it looks to me as though we are not finishers.2006, 5-5 record, lose to OU 12-7 & WMU 17-0, final record 5-72007, 4-6 record, lose to Miami 7-0 & CMU 35-32, final record 4-82008, 5-4 record, lose to Buffalo 43-40, to OU 49-42 & Temple 27-6, final record 5-7Entering those last games we were 14-15, but by the time all was said and done, 14-22.Until we learn to win games down the stretch, we will never make to another bowl game. itJMHO.
  3. Yes, we have had 3 victories snatched from us, but what about the 2 games (Cant & EMU) where we snatched victory from defeat. All of that balances out in the end.
  4. What a crock! a Number 5 seed. We should had ano lwer than a 4 seed. And then, we have to play Oakland/Suckeyes. I guess we're just going to have to show everyone what we are made of.Go Zips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I can't say that I feel bad with the closing of the RB. God knows we have needed a stadium on campus forever. As GP1 was born, I graduated fron hs & attend Akron. I was a sports reporter for the Buchtelite back in those days, and even then we were pushing for a stadium on campus. It has taken 40 yrs., but it will happen next year.I do feel sentimental though about the RB. I have seen so many footbal games there, ranging from peewee games to pro games. Soccer matches played there when the great Stu Parry was the coach at Akron. And a host of concerts. It has been a great place, but her time is past. I will be uncorking a bottle of champagne after the game to toast her closing.
  6. Akron 44 UB 40UB cannot score on thier last drive ending up on our 12 yd. line as time expires.
  7. That is the "correct" Buchtel Field. The last I heard was that area was going to be set-up to handle intramural contests. Has that changed?
  8. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe both players came in as Prop 14's and had to sit out their freshman year until they could make themselves academically eligbile. Once that happened and they continued thru the 4th year if schooling, the NCAA would permit another year of athletic eligiblity. That's prop 48 not 14.
  9. WE NEED TO BEAT BUFFALO!!! Whichever team prevails in the Nov 13 showdown at the Rubber Bowl will still need to come up with at least one more win to assure itself of a bowl bid regardless of the outcome of the MAC championship game. Remember last season when Miami entered the MAC title game at 6-6 and lost? Despite being MAC East champs, the RedHawks could not go bowling with a 6-7 record. A similar fate could await this year’s representative, so securing a seventh victory prior to entering the MAC championship game becomes critical. If the MAC East representative enters the MAC championship game no worse than 7-5 they will go bowling. Likewise if the MAC East champ comes in 6-6 and pulls off a victory in the MAC championship game, they will go bowling as well. Why? Keep in mind that the MAC, as confirmed to MAC Report Online by MAC Deputy Commissioner Bob Gennarelli, guarantees that its two divisional winners, assuming each remain bowl eligible of course, will be awarded with bowl invitations to two of the MAC’s three contracted bowl games. That of course potentially opens up a whole different can of worms. With the MAC having as many as six teams possibly becoming bowl eligible by season’s end, it would mean that other MAC squads with better records than the MAC East champ could potentially be sitting at home with only one other guaranteed bowl being available… unless a couple of other bowls open up because of a conference not being able to supply a bowl-eligible team to its contracted bowl.
  10. As far as traveling to Canada in concerned, you won't need a passport until June 1, 2009. However, the sooner you start worki on obtaining a passport, the better you will be, for traveling purposes.http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc...iant_documentng
  11. You are correct. the same thing happened to the "Sweaters" last year.So we need to win 2 of the last 3 to truly be bowl eligible.
  12. Just a little over 10,000 in attendance. Poor for a beautiful fall evening, but that is what you get when your league is making the schools take TV money over a Saturday game.Jaq looked good, except for the interception. JD let him know about it right away as he was coming off the field. If Jaq hadn't forced it in there, we would have scored atleast a fg and been up 24-3. Instead, we allow UT to score a TD and now we find ourselves up by only 11.We looked very crisp in the 1st quarter, but then we slid back to reality for quarters 2 & 3. I think UT ran out of gas in the 4th quarter.Looking forward to the final game at the Bowl next week. It just be a great contest.
  13. Unfortunately, I have a meeting tonite that will run well past 8:00.Knowing our penchance for 4th quarter collapses and Toledo's incentive since Tom is leaving , I am forecasting a very close game. The Zips will prevail by the slimmest of margins, 34-33.
  14. The key word in this whole thing is "tie-ins". If a team with a tie-in has a 6-6 mark they are in at bowl game. Conversely, if there are no more teams with a tie-in, that is when the 7-5 mark comes into play. That is why it is so important for us to win 3 of the final 4 games. We would then be 7-5 and going to the MACC. Even if we lost in that game, we would or should have a good chance at bowling. However, if we finish 6-6. Still go to the MACC and lose, we will be sitting at home during the bowl season.
  15. There were 2 reasons why the soccer game was dropped from the Acme-Zip game amd both of those had to do with the Bowl. First, was artificial turf. The soccer ball bounced higher and and ball would never slow down like it does no a natural surface. Secondly, a football field is crowned. So with the combination of a crown field and a artificial surface, it became very difficult to play a game at the bowl.
  16. I attended the Acme-Zip games from 1960 to its demise. Like the Rubber Bowl, an excellent thing at the time. However, time has caught up with both. The Acme-Zip game was great when we played in the Ohio Conference and later DII. Now, when we are playing with other D1 schools the game is not the same. I would guess that if we were still a DII program, this kind of thing would still work. Also, remember, when the Acme-Zip game was first started, the Unviersity was a city college and was supported locally. Unfotunately or fortunate;y, the times have changed. We as a community need to accept those changes and support the University in the new direction it is headed. If half of the people I know that have asked me about Infocision Stadium actually make it to just one game, then the Zips and the community will be succcessful.
  17. The same thing happened to us to bb 2 years ago. Also, why do you think the BCS was founded. It was to give the big schools the best shot at the big bowl games. That and the Bowl Alliance have made it very easy for bowl selection committees to determine what teams to select for their particular bowl game. It has become a no-brainer.
  18. Per NCAA rules for colleges and National Federation rules for high schools, the HOME TEAM will be dressed in dark colors and the VISITING TEAM in light colors.
  19. I couldn't have said it better Capt.
  20. If that is the case, why didn't Miami get a bowl invite last year? (6-7)
  21. Congrats DK. MAC East offensive player of the week.
  22. Apparently you are aware of a new definition for bowl eligible? Here's what I thought it was.......The term bowl eligible refers to any NCAA football team that is able to play in one of the 34 bowl games that are a part of the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS; formerly Division I-A) season. In order to be bowl eligible, a team must have at least six wins, including conference and out-of-conference games, and the team must not be on probation. The NCAA allows one victory per season over a Division I FCS (formerly I-AA) team to count toward an FBS team's bowl eligibility, so long as the FCS team has supplied financial aid for football averaging out to at least 56.7 full scholarships (90% of the limit of 63 allowed to FCS schools) over the preceding two years. This prevents teams from scheduling multiple games against FCS teams in an effort to pad their win total. The term 'bowl eligible' is usually only used when referring to those teams that are eligible to play in minor bowl games, and not to those team who are competing to play in one of the five BCS bowl games.Teams that are bowl eligible will usually either play in one of the bowl games that its conference is affiliated with based on conference tie-ins or the team will be chosen from the pool of remaining bowl eligible teams to fill one of the at-large positions. On April 26, 2006, the NCAA announced that they were relaxing the rules for eligibility starting with the 2006 season, particularly in light of the new 12 game college football season. Now, teams with .500 records can qualify for bowl games if their conference has a contract with a bowl game. Also, teams with .500 records (i.e. 6-6) could earn bowl bids if all other FBS teams with winning records have been taken and postseason spots still remain vacant.[1]Occasionally there will be more bowl eligible teams than there are spots in the NCAA football bowl games in the season. In these cases, some bowl eligible teams will not be invited to play in any NCAA football bowl game. In 2005, eight bowl eligible teams did not receive bowl bids, namely WAC team Louisiana Tech (7-4), MAC teams Miami (OH) (7-4), Western Michigan (7-4), Northern Illinois (7-5), Bowling Green (6-5), Central Michigan (6-5), Sun Belt member Louisiana-Lafayette (6-5) and Mountain West team New Mexico (6-5).In 2006, nine bowl eligible teams that all finished with 6-6 records did not receive bowl bids. They were Kansas from the Big 12, the Big East's Pittsburgh, Arizona and Washington State from the Pac-10, the MAC's Can't State, Conference USA's Southern Methodist, MWC team Wyoming, and Sun Belt teams Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette.In 2007, the most noted team that did not receive a bowl bid (and with a winning record) as Troy had an 8-4 record, but lost to Florida Atlantic on December 1 as the Owls went to the New Orleans Bowl as the Sun Belt champions, despite being 7-5 overall. The 6-6 teams that stayed home were Louisville from the Big East, Iowa and Northwestern of the Big Ten, Ohio from the MAC, the South Carolina Gamecocks of the SEC and another Sun Belt member, the Louisiana-Monroe WarHawks. Two NCAA rules combine to make it unlikely, though possible, that a team with seven wins will be left out of a bowl game: * Bowl games that have a contract with a conference must select a team with at least seven wins if one is available. * Any bowl berths not already filled by contract must be filled by a team with seven wins before any spare 6-6 team can be accommodated. There is a special case where a team can finish with a losing record and still appear in a bowl game. If a team wins their conference, they are given a waiver of the bowl eligibility requirements if they end up with an overall losing record.Skip-Zip: Apparently you were unaware that a 6-7 mark DOES NOT get us into a bowl. Minimum of 7 wins will do the trick. So, we need to win at least 3 of our last 4 games to attain that water mark.
  23. The excitement is starting build with me as well. However, we are 4-4. To be bowl eligible, we need to either win 3 of our last 4 games or split 2-2 and win the MAC championship. If end up 6-6, and lose the MAC, we will not be bowl eligible. So, we have 17 days left to heal, recoup, and retrain. Let's attack these last 4 games with the energy we need to get to a bowl gameGO ZIPS
  24. OK Guys! We rhased the BG fiasco in so many different ways my head is spinning. Here it is Tuesday and no one is mentioning EM. Is it because we are taking it for granted that it will be a victory for the ZIPS? I hope that isn't the reason.Anyway, it looks like a nice simple drive to Ypsilanti. Anyone else going? We need the show the team that we still support them, no matter what has taken place the last 3 weeks. I'm getting my sausage from DeVitis and Great Lakes beer and we leaving around 6:00.Also, for that team that has the bye game
  25. Skip-Zip: I agree with what you are saying, but take exception with one thing. We weren't expecting much from this team this season. As long as we have that train of thought, we will never make it to the next level. We should be expecting the very best each every week. We should not be going home after a Cincy loss saying"We cam close, we only lost by 2 points."A win is a win and a loss is still a loss no matter how you slice it.I do agree that barring a total collapse JD will return next season. The univ. cannot afford to buy out his contract.
