  1. Just as a random thought, how can you be ranked higher than 1?
  2. http://www.ohio.com/blogs/ua-zips/universi...n-2015-1.443037 Zips to head west to face Sooners in 2015 By George Thomas Published: November 7, 2013 Oklahoma announced that it has added Akron to its non-conference schedule for 2015. The Sooners and Zips will square off for the first time in Norman on Sept. 5, 2015. Given what is about to happen with college football and the upcoming playoff system, the game should offer some national exposure along with substantial payday, incentives that may get rarer in the coming years
  3. One day in an elementary school in Portage County, a teacher asks her class if the Can't State Flashes are their favorite football team. The whole class says yes except for Little Jimmy. The teacher asks, "What's your favorite football team Jimmy?" Little Jimmy says, "The University of Akron Zips." The teacher asks, "Well, why is that?" Little Jimmy says, "Well, my dad is a Zips fan, my mom is a Zips fan, I guess that makes me a Zips fan." The teacher angered by his reply says, "If your dad was a moron and your mom was an idiot what would that make you?" Little Jimmy says, "Well, I guess that would make me a Flashes fan

  5. Thankfully, we never made it in to the game (or what you call a game). Our tailgating group was having such a good time and with the rain, we just decided to stay put and listen to the game on the radio. It was a good thing that we had margarita jello shots to ease the pain. The mistakes and penalties killed us. It truly reminded me of the Ianello era. I haven't given up on the Zips yet, but I believe there needs to be some restructuring of players and after the season a thorough evaluation of the coaching staff.
  6. Proenza to retire. http://www.ohio.com/news/break-news/proenz...n-june-1.419364
  7. Ah. I see our new friend zipsqb11, has not been around too long. CJ will always be remebered, but never honored.
  8. I doen't surprise me about Lane & Moore. I knew their grades were not in line when the graduated hs. Infact, I was surprised that theyw ere signed by the Zips. Happy, yet surprised. If they bothdo the right things academically, they will be big additiions to the team for the next few years.
  9. Back in 1969 they played a game at Barberton HS and I believe they played another in Cuyahoga Falls.

  11. And about 100 more will sstart in August.
  12. Spin: I heard most of the interview yesterday, and what Donaghy was talking about makes some sense. Maybe there is more to this than AA with the 5 pounds. Who knows? We will just have let things work themselves out. I did find the interview very interesting.
  13. Central Michigan upset Toledo 66-61. Now all the Zips have to do is take care of business and we could both the men & the women in tomorrow's champinship games.
  14. I read that article early this morning and it seems to contradict everything Keith is saying. I think the schedule that in place works just fine. Honme and Honme with teams in your division and a single game withe ach of the teams in the other division. If the mAC goes for this new set-up, they are weakening an already weak legue and they will never get a second team in to the Big Dance.
  15. At the half Akron 48 Buffalo 36. Wow! Akron scored more points in the 1st half than Miami did the whole game against EMU in the men's game.
  16. I agree 100%. I actually saw a model of what the new facility was to be. It was to look very similar to ND's convocation center. Not only did the GA pull funds from us, they gave the money to CSU to build their convocation center. This is the reason I don;t go to too many events at CSU.
  17. have to agree. Very good coverage for the most part from GT. I think the Zips deserved a beat writer to travel with the team as Elton Alexander does but thats a budgetary call and the BJ would rather cover Can't state (per Ron Ledgard). Lets hope GT stays on the Akron beat for a while. The BJ decided several years ago to gear their coverage of prep and college sports to the areas the prurchase the BJ, with the exception of tOSU coverage. For Can't & Akron, for the most part they try to be equal with the coverage of FB & BB. George covers U of A and Storm covering Can't. The budget for traveling precludes George from going on many road trips. I do feel that he has done a good job and I hope that the BJ will continue to have him cvoer U of A.
  18. AA's attorney, Bob Meeker is probably one of the 4 or 5 criminal attorney's in Akron. Knowing Bob, I am sure he will be working for the best interest of AA.
  19. Can we keep this on a positive level? Knowing the way Coach Dambrot has coached over the eyars, I am looking for some surprises when the Zips take floor this evening. I think Z and Tree will have monster games. Can't is ging to come in feeling coacky, thinking that without AA that we will be out of sync. I look at it jsut the opposite and I am sure Caoch does as well.
  20. OMG! WTF! Talk about being selfish. This is like taking a knife and stabbing your teammates in the back. I'm not looking for good things the rest of the season. HOwever, i"ll be at the JAR cheering on the Zips and hoping for the best.
  21. I wouldn't look to too many local high school games being played there. The cost to rent the faciltiy is roughly $3500-$4000. It would need to be a narquee match, like back when SVSM, with LeBron, play Central-Hower. Thise games brought in the crowds. In addition to the cost for the facility, schools hate to give up a night's woth of concession revenue. Marquee matrch ups or state tourney games are the only ones that I see would work.
