  1. I've been reading everything on these boards about all of the possible candidates. What has been mentioned very rarely, is this. Does this candidate really want to coach at Akron? What has Akron got for me? Do I really want to leave the sunny south or west to live in the Akron area? There are many other questions I would be asking myself before I would consider the position at U of A. This not a knock against us, but just a reality check. Remember, we have football program that is in the toilet. It is going to take a coach with a lot of grit to right the ship. I am leaning towards Winters, but whoever gets the job, will get my full support.
  2. Todd Porter is just a half a step above George Thomas in accurately reporting anything.
  3. All Georgie Boy ever does is scan the social media sites and sites like ZN, Football Scoop, etc. and quote those as unnamed sources. He is not and never will be a good hard nosed reporter, that digs up his own information thru his own network of informers.
  4. I agree totally about loyalty. Anyone that wants to bleed Blue & Gold puts them at the top of the list. I am sure that is why we haven't named a coach. I am also sure that the committee has look at other coaches as well. Here's hoping that we get a coach that not only has a passion for the game, but has a passion for UA. RI never made a good showing of himself as an Akron guy. He made matters, when he and his staff did not continue with golf outing.
  5. Polian's father, Bill, is the vice chairman of the Indianapolis Colts and his older brother Chris, serves as the team's general manager. His younger brother Dennis also works in player personnel with the NFL. I thought the last name sounded familiar. No way do I want any part of this guy. Take him off the radar!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Speaking of George Thomas, I hope you are all aware, that Tom Gaffeny is retiring. Tom has done a nice job covering Zips football & basketball. It has been tough to write about football the last few years. Now, we will be getting George Thomas to cover the Zips. It looks like this might be a step backwards. YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?!?! I wish I were. George will cover the Zips for football and basketball. Mike Beaven will continue covering soccer and hs sports & Jim Isabella will cover hs sports as well. There is no one else on the BJ sports staff covering hs sports or the Zips.

  9. Yes, Dennison and Tressell are good friends. In fact, after Tressell left OSU, Dennison & Tressell met. Dennison tried to to get Tressell on his staff immediatley, but Tressell turned him down. Dennison alluded that he planned to step down in a year or two as head coach and would like to hand the whistle over to Tressell. Tressell has been thinking about it since then. And Frank Solich after he was canned at Nebraska took a year off and then started with OU. Solich was fired because he couldn't get it done at Nebraska with a new AD in place. I would prefer Tressell, however, whoever we get needs to have HC experience and be familiar with the MAC.
  10. We are "Mid-1990's K.e.n.t. Bad." Bottom-feeder extraordinaire.Even when Owens took-over Faust's remnants, you could see progress as time rolled on. I see nothing with Ianello. Just horrific, abysmal football.I'm seriously thinking about skipping renewal of my tickets next season. I may travel a bit next fall and check out some games at K.entucky, Pitt, WVA, Maryland and elsewhere. I want to see good football. And a real college game day environment. If Wistercil doesn't want to provide it, he leaves me no choice.Taking your kid to see the Zips get waxed week-after-week sucks. Your kid wears the face paint...jersey, etc. And by mid-2nd quarter of every game, his team is down 3+ scores. Year after year. With no end in sight. You can only take so much...That's the reason I didn't renew my tickets this season. I saw the writing on the wall. This sucks!!!I have to believe that Dr. P has also seen the same thing. He can't keeping back to money boosters asking for more money when we put a really crappy product on the field. And it starts with the AD & the coach.
  11. There were more fans at the Firestone/Buchtel game last night.
  12. Zips lose (unfortunately) 31-10
  13. I am so skeptical it isn't funny. All I can think about was last years game with GW. Everyone thought that we would win that game walking away. Let's hope for a better result on Saturday.
  14. At this moment, we have to be the worst football team in the FBS. To highlight Ianello's 1 1/4 seasons in 15 games, points for 174=11.60 per gamepoints againts 526=35.07I think that says it all.
  15. Future non-league opponents.Interesting?!?http://www.ohio.com/news/break-news/univer...edules-1.234838
  16. He has been in contact with his good friend, Jim Dennison. From what I understand, JIm only plans on this season and maybe 1 more before he hangs up the whistle. He is hoping that Tressel will step into the coaching position at Walsh.
  17. I'm with Go Zips on this issue. I love football. I see a t least 1 hs game per week and have supported Zips football for over 20 years. However, last year was a total abomination. We left by half-time on at least occassions last season, only because the Zips had played and were coached so poorly. I wish the Zips nothing but the best and maybe in couple of years I will even go to another game.
  18. Also, the fact that they do not have to spend money on a football program is a big help. Imagine, for a moment, if we didn't have a football team. Imagine the money that could be allocated to all of the other sports.
  19. Congrats to the U of A for haivng the foresight to keep KD under contract. Congrats to KD for knowing that the U of A gave him a second chance on coaching at the university level and for being loyal to the U of A. People always think that the grass is greener on the other side. Then, when there get there, they don't realize how good they had it. GO ZIPS!
  20. The letter is just good business. They know that we know that they seucked this year, but, they wanted to thank us for the support we gave them. I'm waiting to see what the price will be for season tickets next year before I re-up. If they are too pricey, I will just buy them on a game by game basis.
  21. I will be watching the game Friday from home. But, I plan on stopping at the Thirsty Dog Brewery tomorrow after work on get a couple of growlers and we will be inviting some of the neighbors to the house. But the DW & I plan on being at the Barley House early on Sunday. Gooooooo Zips!
  22. As a retired official, who has done many top state matches, I would have done the same thing as the referee on Saturday. Morgante would have been served better if he had waited until half-time and discussed the issue with the referee. For him to issue the ultimatum "he goes or I go" was the most stupid thing I have ever heard. The Site Manager had the proper amount of officials at the game. The referee, 2 asst referees, and a alternate referee.
