Amen, finally someone who agrees with me on here. I don't see where everyone is getting all this negativity about how we are going to win 2 or 3 games this year. We have some decent to above average talent at most every position. And the positions that we have very good to great talent at are some of the most important in the game. Or defense looks pretty darn good up front along with the offense front. Basically, if we are fine at QB, WR and Linebacker....we will win some games. We are fine everywhere else already.

You know, you dont see the Tallahassee Democrat running negative stories about Florida State and then running another article praising the Gators.Same with the Columbus Dispatch, they don't knock Tressel for four pages then have a story about Lloyd Carr's amazing coaching decisions. It's just disgusting. It's sad that many of us turn to Cleveland's paper for our local sports coverage because they do a better job of it. (btw, i know Lloyd Carr isn't Michigan's coach anymore. I know some Suckeye superfan on here will freak out and point that out)

Devoe Torrence: a little history
RootforRoo44 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
that should be it's own thread, a thread where everyone posts zips stories so we can all comment on them and make the papers see that we want zips coverage and not can't state articles. -
Guess you'll be staying home then.

Devoe Torrence: a little history
RootforRoo44 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
from what it sounds like he probably is a bit better at linebacker, but also, don't you always want your best at each position? With his strength, speed, and agility, it's hard to not put him at RB a little just to see if he could be that guy who can just take over a game and rush for 300 yards a game at will.4.55 speed is nothing special for a running back. That is pretty good speed for a linebacker though.UA needs more speed on defense.citation: linkIf you are a run-oriented team that wants to pound the ball, this could be your guy. However, if a team is in need for a great linebacker and has the patience to develop one, this is the kid.Sounds about right. We need a good running game because our QB play is suspect, but we need a great linebacking corps because our secondary is almost a complete unknown.CANT WE JUST CLONE HIM?!?! Though I guess it is good to have a tough decision like this to make. -

Re-hashing Devoe Torrence

exactly, why cant we just try to be a little more optimistic with the kid and remember that he is barely out of high school and is going to college for the first time like any other freshman student. Also i dont understand why everyone just assumes he is a bad apple, he didn't even get found guilty of ANYTHING. Let's see what he can do. -

We've heard this same argument a lot over the last couple of years. Carlton Jackson, David Harvey, Vince Hill, Aaris Reed. I'm sure I'm missing some. They come in as some of the most highly rated players to ever play in our football program from a recruiting standpoint. Those who make it to campus don't seem to last very long. It makes some of us uneasy to see all of the same arguments coming up again with a different name attached to them. I don't think you can really fault us for that.NONE of those guys are even close to the player that Devoe is. It's not even comparable. -

Also wanted to throw in a highlight video that has some clips of him in action. Some impressive stuff. He puts on a show, watch the whole thing, he's in about 1/3 to 1/2 of the highlights.(he is #3) -

I want to see this kid in uniform and on the field first, and I would like to see what he can do in the classroom. Every kid with his potential has not worked out for us. It has happened so much that nobody can really get excited. Yes, we need to win, but in our case taking in risky kids has hurt us more than it has helped us. Suddenly, we get picked last in this terrible conference, and I hate to say that they might have got it right this time.Have a little faith. We all know that the Zips aren't deserving of a last place pick. There is some talent here. -
http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/2008-fo...e-torrence.htmlLINK27 page thread on devoe torrence from suckeye fan site. It's nice to see what everyone thought of him 2 years ago when he was first being recruited. Kind of gives you chills to see how good many people think this kid is.

i just dont understand all the questioning in taking a kid like this. HE IS THE MOST HIGHLY RATED PLAYER TO EVER PLAY IN OUR FOOTBALL PROGRAM FROM A RECRUITING STANDPOINT. That is good enough reason for me to sign him. This isn't highschool, it's not about all the quality kids crap. College football IS a business almost on the level of the NFL. YOU NEED TO WIN. And this kid will help you win...PERIOD.lets get freaking excited for this, this is amazing luck! -
ok let me just say that Great Lakes is WAY better than MillerBC, BUT Leinenkugel's is right on par with Great Lakes. It's just the truth.

oh God i have...i call it my pilgrimage. Miller Brewing Company and the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company. Both amazing places that give you a good amount of free beer on the tour. (aka 3 or 4 to each person, each tour)

odd to hear considering that Zippy was one of the mascots it was possible to vote on the cover of the Wii version.

so i got a message from someone who didn't believe i have won 9 bucks in a 9 days...the goal is starting off trying to win something fairly big, a parlay of some kind. Then one or two more somewhat safe picks to get your money up there. Remember you get a bonus of a certain percentage early on, keep clicking until you get the highest bonus you can get. You can double your money every time even though you are picking a favorite. Once you get above 2 dollars or so, just start betting safe bets and slowly youll get over 3 then 4, etc...the key is getting the ball rolling because soon you can bet bigger amounts per bet and you'll be in business. It doesn't hurt to get a bunch of friends to sign up either.

The boards are kind of slow today so I thought I'd post something pretty cool...I came across this website a week or so ago. It's a website where they give you $0.10 to bet with and you can work your way up with this money and cash out for equal value in real money once you get over 10 dollars. Since online sports gambling is illegal in the U.S. it's an awesome way around that law. Plus you never spend any money even if you lose the initial amount they gave you, you still get spotted 10 cents more. It's actually more like fantasy sports really. But anyways, i've been fairly lucky and have won about 9 bucks in the past week from my starting .10 cents so check it out, i assure you it's not a scam. Plus if you sign up friends you get 5% of their cut so it's good to invite a bunch of people you know. Here's the link, and don't forget to bet on the zips a lot this coming football season, i'm sure you can make good money on them considering they get no respect and will be the underdogs most of the time.http://www.centsports.com/?opcode=183760

Student Applications up 17%
RootforRoo44 replied to g-mann17's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
well it's not like we have ever had a problem distinguishing our students from Can't State's. There's are the ones throwing bags of urine and rocks at our national guard. -

I like this kid more and more every time i hear something new about him. I wouldn't put the hopes and dreams of an entire program on just his shoulders but maybe the shoulders of this whole amazing group of guys that Dambrot is putting together. The time is coming for our run. -
those aren't just any assorted trolls and morons. Those are the fine alumni and students of can't state

It's kinda funny. The slums surrounding the place in question have many people living off the people's tax dollars and now the recipients of the 3.1 million are going to be getting paid by the same people's tax dollars as well. How fitting.

quality is pretty damn good for a cell phone camera, THANKS. And it is true, withdrawal was setting in.

Frye Believes He Will Start Again
RootforRoo44 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
This may be the case, but I always am hoping that somehow he will get the chance somewhere. He really does have the ability, just he hasn't got the support (receivers dropped passes, lineman didnt block/couldnt block, bad play calling). It just seems like everything went wrong for him. -
Thanks for everyone adding this, we are already in 7th place in the MAC in terms of people on here. Here's the standings w/ the date the application was added indicated in red. As you can see we are growing at a pretty fast rate. Make sure to recruit people if you have already added it. (We have 10 people more than this already in the past 25 minutes. )

I have the same problem sometimes, just refresh a few times and if it still doesn't work just wait 20 minutes.
