BG Game Saturday - A "Must Win?"
RootforRoo44 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
And 95% of Akron fans have called for Ianello to be fired, or at least called for him to never be hired in the first place. I'm not saying fire Dambrot BUT let's look at the facts: Pros: Winning record every year since he took over. Multiple 20 win seasons in a row. three post-season appearances (the CBI doesn't count) A win over an ACC school (FSU in the NIT in 2008) One possible NBA player (Linhart) that he recruited. One MAC championship Cons: ZERO wins against top 25 opponents. In fact, his teams have choked in most big games. Speaking of choking: four MAC championship appearances, three losses (one embarrassingly). Inability to beat Can't consistently. Only one really good year against them (2006-2007 i believe). No idea how to use a true center correctly. Maybe we can look at KD as a Ken Lolla of the basketball program. He has done well establishing a winning tradition of sorts but does he really have what it takes to take us to the next level? His team's just don't have that certain something that makes great teams great. -
BG Game Saturday - A "Must Win?"

If he loses more than 5 games total at home and/or doesn't win 15 games. That kind of collapse is unacceptable. We'd definitely also have to have someone big time lined up as a possible replacement. Which may be hard to do. Someone should get Bobby Knight on board. Not like he's from around here or anything . -

Seriously, we've already lost twice at home. That's unacceptable. Losing again is grounds for "someone" having a hotter seat than normal. -
Creation of a Supporters' Group

Yes, and the east end where everyone stands should be the pouch. -
Creation of a Supporters' Group
RootforRoo44 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Well we have to have some sort of name. That's a big part of being a supporters' group. -
I know i know, we already have the AK-Rowdies but this would be for non UA students, alumni, locals, and whoever. It wont be a student exclusive group. It would definitely benefit the program to have more serious supporters and that's the idea. Another serious group of supporters (working with the Rowdies of course) would help get the rest of the people in attendance on the same page and create a real football atmosphere at the Pouch. We would of course get our own scarfs, our own pre/post game bar, and host various events. What are you guys' thoughts on this? Also, we are brainstorming on names, and these are the leaders right now: Stu's CRoo Buchtel's Brigade Exchange Street Elite Parry's Army Caleb's CRoo Akron ROOligans Let me know if you have any name ideas, are interested in joining, or if you hate the idea.

Josh Egner

It's a little hard to give up on a team that has as much talent as us. It's absurd we are playing this poorly. It defies logic. Maybe it's just one of those bad stretches. Hopefully we just go off later in the season when it really matters.
-
Why not play quick and athletic? I don't see why Egner or Diggs aren't on the floor with McKnight and McClanahan?
-
Exactly, KD mixed it up the most wrong way he possibly could have. I mean come on Coach D., D Rob, McNees, Diggs (GOOD), Bardo (WTF?!), Zeke ?!
-
Still too much McNees, and he's been terrible so far. 0-3 from three.

BGSU Ups the Ante for MAC Basketball
RootforRoo44 replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
This isn't as big as you might think. InfoCision (I'm sure) put up more for naming rights to your football stadium and the Stiles family probably put up $5 million to name the fieldhouse. The most interesting fact is that $8 million is the largest gift ever to BGSU. That's not much in the broad scheme of things. Yeah i'm not too worried. The new "Stroh Center" doesn't even impress me, and i'm sure it wont impress recruits either. UA needs to stop playing around with this rinky dink MAC schools and go bigtime. Let's woo a big donor ourselves and get a real arena built on campus or lets really renovate the JAR into something special so we can begin our domination. -
Mattocks to Leave...after 2011 Season
RootforRoo44 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
He mentioned that in a post Sunday evening. I believe he was just talking about the FIFA Video game, saying how Portugal is his fav. team to play as. I am fluent in Patois by the way. *EDIT* I asked him to be sure. Yeah, that's what he was talking about. You did have me scared for a second when I first read this thread though. Btw check out http://www.translationdirectory.com/dictio...ctionary023.htm , it will help with Darren's posts lol Thank goodness. I was tipped off by a thread on Big Soccer saying that he was leaving to Europe, which led me to his Facebook post, which I clearly misinterpreted. I don't think you misinterpreted it as much as he used some bad wording. He definitely is interested in going over there, but he was talking about after next season, at least according to him. -

Nothing that I can find yet. I can't even find if Miami has a live feed, hmm. Anyone making the trip?
-
I'd say 1700 or so at least. Hard to judge, but both lower reserved areas were full and the entire floor had folding chairs covering it and they were full. Also some of upper levels on east, west and south. Great turnout. I had a blast down on the floor in the first few rows with some other Rowdies. The Mayor finally got something right too, giving that key to the city to CP.
-
I don't want to steal Quickzips' thunder but we are about 24 hours away from a huge game. Miami is the MAC East leader right now (along with Can't) and losing this game would put us at 1-3 and two full games behind the leader. That can't happen. Anyone think KD will make some drastic changes for this game or will it be more of the same? (oh and here's my preview over at ASN, with tons of stats)

Will Akron Suffer From Seven Departing Players
RootforRoo44 replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
You even left out Tulloch...just thought to remind you we still have the Jamaican duo... Yes, and Tulloch has some height too. He doesn't look bad with the ball either. You throw Genovesi out there with Tulloch and teams will have some speed AND height disadvantages. I'm really not worried at all for next year, I think our bench this past year could have made the Elite Eight on their own. -
ASN will be there, no doubt. For once no other Zips sports conflict with the 9:50pm start. Hopefully plenty of others make it out.
-
@ Captain I think you're right with Egner needing more minutes but i think a bigger problem is our shooting guard taking only four shots and having six points/2 rebounds/1 assist in 26 minutes. It's time for Dambrot to sit McNees. McClanahan can move into SG and McKnight can start at small forward. I think McKnight has proved that he can be a dependable scoring threat and he may be the only person on the team who understands how to play tough when we need to. 1) Abreu 2) McClanahan 3) McKnight 4) Cvetinovic...reduced minutes with more for Egner 5) Zeke

One game, look at our overall records and the teams we've each beat and lost to. OU has lost to some terrible teams, I would say the only bad team we've lost to besides Buffalo is Ohio University. We may not have killed the teams we were supposed to kill but at least won. We just haven't upset anyone yet. You could argue that Can't, Miami, and Akron are all better than OU, and the argument is pretty good save for one fluke win that the Bobcats have over us. Are you dillusional? We got worked in that game against OU. We had no answer for Kellogg or their PG. No more delusional than someone who is using one game to determine how good or bad two teams are. Again, look at the full body of work, Ohio has already proven they are a weak team. Oh yeah, and look what happened this weekend. They lost for the SEVENTH time at home. They are 5-7 at home, good teams don't lose seven times at home in one season, let alone five times before conference play even begins.
