If you cant root for Akron over OSU in ALL SITUATIONS then you are going to have some hatred thrown at you on here. I can guarantee you that. That being said I hope the Zips upset the NOTC's next year in the opening game.

well i know where i'll be friday. I'm going to go root for Humpty to dominate Can't State for the first time.

Chipotle is coming! Chipotle is coming!
RootforRoo44 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
It's already open in Wadsworth, has been for a month or two. Can't say i'd even put Chipotle in my top 25 places to eat fast food though (Pita Pit is #1). Chipotle is overpriced and though it's good, it's not THAT good like some people seem to thinkl. -
Don't they squeak by D2 Delaware State once a year? Maybe that's what happened to them. And yes, beating Can't State is a no brainer...how could any of you choose Ohio State over that? I do stand by my beating OSU if they are #1 though, beating a #1 team is something you dont ever get a chance to do. But that wont happen and even if it did, there is no way we lose to Can't five straight times.

They really looked good tonight. Abreu was particularly impressive, he played great defense and he DOMINATED the guy he guarded. AWESOME alley oop dunk by Diggs as well.

A monkey....and it will select plays the same way as Latina: As you can see, we are adding two new plays. The future looks bright!

7 starters to leave soccer team
RootforRoo44 replied to MaxZIP's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Good Lord. I had no idea. Is it worth giving up your college career for that? What you're forgetting is that each team can sign three players that can go around the salary cap because of some "Star Rule". So if one of the bigger players like Kitchen/Nagbe/Sarkodie were likely candidates to leave for overseas, they could pay them a million$+ to stay. And yes it is worth giving up your college career when you can just go back to school for free because of GA's contract and because you get to live out your dream as a pro. Well worth it, i know i would have made the same decision as every player this year. Now last year, I wouldn't have left like Gavin did, he had unfinished business (winning a title). -
Another good preview QuickZips. Also, I think bad officiating or not, this one should be one we win EASILY. This isn't the same Pine Bluff team that also started 0-11 last year and made it to the NCAA tourney by winning 18 of 21 down the stretch. They have been clobbered in 10 of their 11 games with their lone competitive game the one against Auburn. Let's not forget that Auburn is not very good, actually they are near the bottom of the RPI rankings (#331). In that game they actually allowed the Tigers to score 11 straight points to close out the game and blow the lead. So let's play deep, work the ball to Zeke a lot, and let's see Egner jump over some people for some big slams. ASN Preview of APB

this is a fantastic question. I choose beating Can't State for five straight years, UNLESS OSU is ranked #1.

One thing tOSU fans are really good at is leaving out analysis about their team. While it is true all of the above is a fact, let's have a closer look...... GP1, Although I can certainly understand why someone might have the point of view that because the Buckeyes have underperformed in the National Championship games they are in fact inferior as a football program to the top-level SEC teams over the past 5 years, to say blanketedly that the BIG 10 conference is second tier, and in the next sentence say the BIG 12 and PAC 10 are first tier, is more than a little suspect. As a conference I would certainly put the SEC as the top one over the past decade, but after that the Big 10 is at least the equal of the PAC 10 and the BIG 12. The PAC 10 has realistically had one top program in football over the past decade, USC. The rest have been very mediocre with Oregon the past two seasons being maybe the next best( with their lone BCS appearance spoiled by a Big 10 team) and the BIG 12 has had Texas and Oklahoma and everyone else, with Oklahoma having lost their last 5 bowl games. In fact their next best program is leaving them for the Big 10 this year. I actually think that Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State over the past ten years, and this year Michigan State, would hold thier own in either of these conferences so I do not get the second tier reference to the Big 10 if you are not also counitng the Big 12 and PAC 10 in the second tier as well. Also, I hope you are not saying that Miami in 2002-2003 was a washed up program already when Ohio State beat them for the National Championship, because that would be laughable at best as they were clearly the best program over that 3 or 4 year period and that team in particular was arguably the best, or at least most talented of any team in either the BCS era or the decade prior. (Note- I do not think that is what you were saying as I think your meaning was that now they are down, correct?) Lastly, I am by no means an Ohio State homer as I am a Zips fan and University of Akron Alumni first, but I would certainly root for Ohio State over anyone else they are playing as they are my home states biggest school, and in most regards best chance for a nationally competitive team. I do enjoy reading all of these posts and can appreciate everyones differing perspectives, but I do not understand the strong hatred displayed for Ohio State and the Big 10 on this board. Have a great day. +1 (minus the whole "I root for them because they are the state's biggest school" part)

College Soccer is bigger in the sense that there are far more teams, i can tell you that. Attendance wise, I'm not 100% sure but I have to think Ice Hockey outdraws Soccer easily. I do know that OSU has the largest Arena (Value City, 17,500) but it's not specifically made for hockey and never comes close to full (been to a game that had less people than an Akron Club Hockey match). Though perhaps my fav. arena in college sports is Ralph Englestad Arena in North Dakota. The place is a palace and a good example of how big hockey is in some areas. I also love how the person who funded it said he would stop the funding if the school ever changed their name from the "Fighting Sioux". To make sure they didn't, the arena has the logo engraved in every seat, in marble in various places, and on every possible surface. It's great. But if you look at a few areas (Michigan, New England, Minnesota, etc.) you see how big Hockey is. Soccer has the potential to be bigger though.

I wear my Akron garb every day nearly anyways but i havn't left my house one time in december without my scarf! We need an emoticon that has the smiley holding up an Akron scarf...THAT would be awesome.

Bucknut...the SEC doesnt travel often to the BigTen because they would lose here in the cold in these crappy conditions (that football was meant to be played in). That's a fact. The Buckeyes and most Big Ten teams are built to play slug it out football in the cold weather in bad conditions, something that they dont play on when they play on perfect bowl fields or at SEC stadiums. The SEC teams are built to play fast football that suits their playing surface (credit to my Dad for enlightening me on that one). Our Zips are built for forfeiting to avoid embarrassment or maybe playing underwater...there is a slight chance that they may be better swimmers. But people on here DO have an unreal hatred for the NOTC's and it is really starting to get annoying. And yes I will use things like that and "OSwho" because they are our rival and that's what I call teams that I dont like! Truly though, some people on here are ridiculous with how they are about them. My hatred stems from them being a rival and because i hate the front runners that root for them. I hate the steelers and yankees for the same reasons (among others).

Top Ten Zips News Stories of 2010
RootforRoo44 replied to GoZips's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
haha, for what it's worth, i agree with most of this top 10. TW's negatives outweigh the positive in my opinion. The soccer things are no brainers, come on people, the worst AD ever (Can't State's last) would have done the same thing. The sad thing is that he got a big no brainer wrong: Hiring someone without HC experience/any experience as HC. -
State of ohio moves forward to the 1990s
RootforRoo44 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
That'll stick it to those big government blowhards. Thank goodness those funds are being sent to Illinois. Can you imagine the demand for train rides from Chicago to Springfield? Someone pinch me, I'm dreaming of the possibilities. What about the demand for train rides from NY to Chicago? Without an Ohio rail program, will that ever become a reality? It's really about interstate travel. Nobody's going to ride a train to a place they can get to on one tank of gas. It's about providing an alternative to air travel. MAGLEV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
AWESOME MDZip!

Right. So refresh my memory...where did the $400 mill end up going? Don't blame him. I salute him for sticking to his beliefs and promises. I'd rather give someone else the money than have that have that money bleeding project go on. Fact is ZachtheZip is right, we could have used that money for tons of more important things. -
It looks like he won't be playing by the 8th of January. There was a pretrial hearing today and they pushed things back for 3 weeks in order to conduct an investigation. The next hearing date is 1-14-11. He was released on a $10,000 signature bond. He's not currently behind bars, therefore he is still eligible for Can't State athletics according to Can't State Athletic Department rules.
-
Awesome...great tournament Alex. He really looked like the point guard of our future at times this week. Definitely can't wait to see him go to work on Can't in a few weeks!
-
Back to back National championships is what he can gain, where as if he goes into the draft he will be a top 5 pick and likely not to be with a contender. That's not a very good argument. I'd take getting paid and playing professional any day. He's already won the national title and proved he can compete at a high level, he would be a fool to not leave if the contract is good. Not that i want him to leave or anything.

This whole thing really is a slam dunk. How could anyone who knows the facts be for this rail line? It's a ridiculous waste of money for what, some convenience for a few people? Kasich was dead on with wanting the money for other more important things or just no one spending it. It's ridiculous the over/wasteful spending going on in this country...actually, it's SICKENING. -

No, public transportation programs are things that move people. Trains, bus, subway, etc. These programs lose money everywhere other than New York City. 41 of Amtrak’s 44 routes lost money in 2008 with losses ranging from nearly $5 to $462 per passenger depending upon the line. And they aren't cheap to ride on! I looked into taking a train to Santa Barbara. It was way more expensive than flying. -
Part of findings of the NCAA was tOSU did not provide enough compliance education. At that point, is it the players fault or the schools fault? I like to take a person at his word. These players said they did not know what they were doing was a violation against NCAA rules. That doesn't make them innocent, it makes them poorly informed and not stupid. I actually believe they didn't know. There are entirely too many NCAA rules and it has turned everyone into a violator of the rules. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that every school in the country has at least one player on it who is watching this news and is worried about something he sold. It is moronic that these guys can't sell their gold pants for example. They freaking own them and should be allowed to do whatever they want with them. Same with the Big Ten Championship rings. If there is some jock sniffer out there stupid enough to buy one of these items, then so be it. I agree completely. Selling their jerseys is one thing but selling their rings and some awards...what could possibly be wrong with that? It's THEIRS!

Just got a text from someone at the game. They told me that three Akron fans just got removed from the game. Anyone who reads this after the game needs to confirm this one.

Dambrot is about to be thrown out after that call...Ball just clearly hit their player in the leg and went out of bounds. I know we have a lot of ref apologists on this board but even they must be shocked by this if they are watching. Unbelievable.
