Yes, you are right and to think some on this site want UA to look like CSU by vomiting the campus all through the downtown area with busy streets running through everything. Oh, that's right, if we build overpasses between buildings to compensate for the downtown streets, that will make everything look like a real campus...bridges, overpasses and a downtown arena...yes sir that will make UA the hot campus to want to be on. Dude you seriously should just go away. Your Akron hating, Can't State loving posts are getting annoying. I know you're going to get all whiny once i state this but Can't sucks dude, seriously. It's more than a rivalry, i'm just stating facts. They have professors that claim 9/11 was a "good thing for America", they have a history of Anti-Americanism (throwing stuff at the national guard), their campus looks like trash, they boo Army recruits being sworn in, they chant during national anthems, they vandalize their own stadium, etc etc. You'll argue "well it's just a few bad apples giving them a bad name" but the truth is it happens far too often to just be a few people. Can't State just sucks. Acknowledge that and be a Zips fan or go away. btw it's pretty lame that you voted your own school the worst campus in the state. It says a lot about your ability to make decisions on where to go to college/who to root for. What do you call it then? Protesting is as American as it gets but getting violent is a different story. -
"I was a grad student there and most of the buildings are not butted up against main roads." That five lane state highway is just a mirage... "Engaging in silly accusations about the K.E.N.T. campus makes Akron people and UA look small and petty." Never mind the fact you just spent all day doing just that. "and the same goes for the stupid looking Polsky Building." You do realize the Polsky Building is local landmark, and serves a much different purpose than the main campus does. "So, stop showing your blatant ignorance of how the competitive process works." Oh I completely understand how the competitive process works. I do want Akron's campus to improve and become the best in the state, best in the world. But I don't want it to be like Can't. If I liked Can't's atmosphere, I would have gone to Can't. You're comparing apples to oranges, trying to make an inner city campus look like a cow-town college. We need to look at Cleveland State, Youngstown State, Toledo, Ohio State, Pittsburgh. That's our comparison, other urban campuses. Not Can't. You need to get past the fact that Akron students had a choice between the two, and chose Akron. Can't students had a choice and chose Can't. Not everybody thinks like you, or acts like you (thank God). Not everybody shares your vision of what a college campus should be like. If we dislike the rural setting, actually a small town setting if you wanted to be accurate, as much as you seem to loath the urban setting, well that's just our opinion. And all the insults and chest thumping in the world isn't going to change that. +1000000000000000000000000000000000 Couldn't have said it better. Actually wouldn't have because i dont usually take the time to respond in depth to Can't trolls on this site. Thanks though for doing the dirty work Spin.

I have a couple dozen friends who ride the Roo Express every day. Some of them live in Quaker Square, some in Buchtel Place, and some in Gallucci Hall. There is no easy way to get from Quaker to anywhere else, especially with the Mill Street bridge out, and no one wants to walk in the areas around Gallucci or Buchtel Place when they get out of their evening classes. I've also known people to take it down to Canal Park for the Aeros games and from some of the farther out parking lots, especially when there's a foot of snow on the ground. I'm not sure you can call it a "marketing ploy" if tons of students use it every day... http://www.uakron.edu/aux/parking/shuttle-routes.php Just because students use it (and not tons of students) doesn't mean it is not a marketing ploy. I don't care who uses it or how many use it, it is not a necessary service when one considers the dinky size of the UA campus. Again, it's really no big deal to me. UA is entitled to its marketing strategies. I'm just not going to go along with the position that UA has such a booming metropolis of a campus that it needs its own bus service. It is just not true. Like usual, your arguments make no sense.

Why do you have such a big boner for Can't? You do realize that the campus is dreary and poorly designed right? It's a lot like what Akron's campus used to be before the renovations of the last decade or so. Also, you're whole "the roo express is a marketing ploy" is asinine as i know many people that ride it almost every day from their off campus housing (including myself). With all of these claims it makes me wonder if you have actually been to Akron's campus in the past few years or if you are just some Can't Stater pretending to be an Akron fan.

ZN.o Poll on worst campus in Ohio

OK let's end this debate
RootforRoo44 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I was going to exclude it saying exactly that but i figured someone would complain. And I guess i should flip the second question as everyone is getting it backwards. -
Another thread went off topic arguing about how nice Can't's campus is so let's find out what everyone thinks. First Poll: You can select more than one in the first poll if you think it's a tie for worst, but let's try to keep it to 2 or less. Second Poll: The question is "which campus is WORST?"

I agree. Go Zips and go University of Akron. Let's hope he at the very least gets Akronites to see an "Akron Zips" Flag flying off their neighbors' porches and not respond with the question, "what's that supposed to be?" That's right, people in Akron fly OSU, K.E.N.T State and MSU flags from their windows and porches and have no idea what a (UA) Zips Flag is all about. That is a pathetic illustration of how miserable UA marketing is as a whole. It is no wonder why K.E.N.T. State laughs us off the map. They have every reason to. I wouldnt be laughing if i was a piece of trash Can't Stater. What is there to be proud of when your campus resembles a little slice of New Jersey in Ohio and it rains all the time? Oh come on, I'm as big a rival against K.E.N.T. as much as the next guy, but you've got to be kidding when you put down their beautiful campus. They have a great looking campus. Its rural setting gives it a huge advantage. UA's campus is coming along for being an urban campus but it still has a long way to go and needs to stick to the plan of maintaining its integrity and detached look from the rest of the city. It has a ways to go before it starts really attracting students from out of state who want to live and recreate on a beautiful and self-contained urban campus. That was the main thrust of the new on-campus stadium and that trend needs to continue much much more than where the UA campus is presently. This is one reason why the new arena needs to be in the heart of the campus and not off-campus in downtown Crackron. Haha, you must live in a fantasy world to think that Can't has a nice campus. That or you haven't actually been there.

uh oh, i hope you know Buckzip is the one bringing his entire family to the games decked out in OSU jerseys. He might grace your post with 3 smileys, watch out.
-
He should fit right in at tOSU then. He should get three days in the bank right now for when the inevitable DUI hits. It will save him the time of serving the three days once he gets there. Signed Chris Jaquemain.... The last time I checked, Chris Jacquemain never made the police blotter. OK, LOL Maybe I should have signed it with one of many other names that I could have used. Which Zip has made the police blotter in the last five years? Every year, a Buckeye graces the pages of newspapers around the country with his off the field exploits involving drinking and a car. It's really OK to admit you are OK with the off the field exploits as long as they win. I would feel that way if I like tOSU, why can't everyone else just admit it? I am not going to start calling out Zip players. Sorry. You certainly have me at a disadvantage. I could sit here and name many Akron players that have had their issues. i could also name many OSU players as well. The thing is I don't do that for my alma maters. Since you are only a fan of one school, you will do this. Ok then. Don't call them out by name. In the past five years, how many were in the police blotter? If you don't know, that's OK. If there weren't any, just say so. Not sure what you mean by "police blotter", but I can think 0f 4 off the top of my head in trouble with the law. There are others we probably didn't hear about. When a player from a big time football school gets in trouble, it is on ESPN and the world knows it. When a player from a smaller football school gets in trouble, unless it is a major crime, you do't hear about it. Hell, outside of Akron most didn't even know about CJ11. If this was a major program that had their starting QB kicked off the team for this type of thing, ESPN would start off their show for a month discussing it. How is this even an argument? OSWho is the kind of school that gives scum like Maurice Clarett a free ride as well tons of free stuff and gets away with it. Also, Ohio State has plenty more players each year that gets in trouble with the law. Btw, how can you be fans of both schools? I dont give a crap if you went there, pick one. Ohio State stands for everything that is wrong with college sports and the dominance by the money makers. I wouldn't be caught dead in red and gray and i definitely wouldnt root for a school that takes away our recruits.

Not sure if Akron would be allowed to do this. I asked this question some months ago and was told that it is not allowed. Lest, many, many schools padded their roster in this manner. But the soccer program giving academic scholly's (as has been sort of confimed on that board) to loosen up athletic bids is OK? I don't get it! Really, why cant the basketball team just name Bardo as a grad assistant? Obviously you couldn't pay him but just cover his academics. Is there a rule i dont know of?

Pure speculation, but maybe Darryl Roberts gives up his scholarship? Pure speculation, but maybe Darryl Roberts gives up his scholarship, wins the Nobel Prize in Economics and we sign the under the radar monster wingspan man. Darryl Robers winning the Nobel Prize eh? More deserving than someone else i can think of I hear that person is going to win the Heisman Trophy this year based off of him attending a football game. That explains why he's already been given this years Cy Young award after throwing out the season opening first pitch.

They really are terrible. I still would like to see gold pants with a blue top.

I don't recall the exact final "score", but the defense won by quite a bit. It left me wondering: Is our defense that much improved? Or, is our offense that bad? I saw a few good throws and catches, and an outstanding long run by Alex Allen in which he made a few cuts, and broke free down the sideline. Other than that, I thought I saw way too much ineffective run blocking and way too many dropped passes and throws that could not have been caught if our receivers were 12' tall. We have a lot of work to do. I agree, also Nicely did not look very good in my eyes or to anyone around me. I still have my confidence in him though. Too bad it was so cold, barely had any turnout.
-
Agree. If you are a difference maker in college basketball, you play more and score more even as a freshman. It's not like this kid is transfering from an SEC school or something. He is transfering from a school that I had even forgotten had college basketball. Whe we talk about the transfer route, this isn't what I had in mind. Exactly my thinking. I don't mean to pick on the guy. But some people are all excited about this guy and he came from a lower level team and only averaged 3 points. Not impressive. It seems like every recruit we get people are all excited about and think they are great gets. Very few ever pan out here. Sweich was a big deal when he signed, so was Sullivan, Steward, McClanahan, etc. None has done anything yet. In all fairness, if Steward is healthy at the start of the '08-'09 season then he is still our starting point guard now. Ronnie Steward had about the worst luck anyone can have the last few years.

Those of us living out of the Akron area need an update on this issue. Did the AC really came on on the 15th? No it's not on. But I apologize for this going off topic, I'm sure most people don't care about the AC haha Yeah it's STILL not on in every building i was in today (Schrank North/South, CAS). That email is a load of BS btw. -

4th basketball recruit announced!
RootforRoo44 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I'm not sure I understand this. Are you openly lobbying KD to take on low-character players from broken families? I may not agree with everything KD does, and I am suspicious of this signing as I stated above, but I don't think that high quality players on the court and high quality players off the court are mutually exclusive. I am actually quite interested in this Diggs kid. Looks like he got some more playing time for New Orleans late in the season and was making the most of it. Looks like a kid who could help out. Any idea on how the NCAA would treat his transfer based on the New Orleans program shutting down? Would he still have to sit out a season? I would be all for it, if they were good. btw, no he would not have to sit out if the program is folding.
