  1. a-zip I completely agree with you...but you also can go dumping what limited resources you have into a massively outdate building that will be replaced down the road anyways.
  2. Even $20 million on the JAR is too much if we have any future plans of a new arena. exactly what I'm saying.
  3. Yes I say it's like nothing, because if you're going to make a pretty substantial investment in something, you might as well do it right the first time. Investing $38 million to put lipstick on a pig (along with all the interest you pay on the loan) and then a decade or less later take another $70ish million loan (with the interest) and start over again...you've now committed an absurdly large amount of what is already limited resources to an arena. The JAR would have some luxury options? It doesn't matter...it would never recover the cost of dumping money into a complete overhaul. But going by the logic you just suggested, the new downtown arena would probably have even grander luxury options...so again, (by that logic) just go that route in the first place. That's why I'm saying that they need to choose one, or the other. We can't and shouldn't do both. (not I'm talking about the complete overhaul of the JAR, which isn't likely to happen anyways...so this little disagreement is a little irrelevant).
  4. Never said that. But if you're going to take out loans up to $38 million...and pay interest on those loans...to fix the JAR...you might as well get loans on $70ish million and get a better arena. If you're going to flush that much money into something, at least upgrade. Horrible analogy. You can resale the 100k house once you've paid it off. You can't sell the JAR or really use it for anything that will remotely come close to covering the cost to upgrade it in the first place if you decide to build a new arena in the future.
  5. I doubt they would actually do the full renovation of the JAR at the price tag of $38 million. But if they do, I believe that's the last time I buy season tickets to anything at UA. I support the Zips, I love my Zips, but dumping money into the JAR (or at least that much money) is dumb...dumb...DUMB. Especially when they could just use that money as a down payment on a brand new arena.
  6. You've got to remember, Pohl was an Ianello guy, not a Bowden guy. With the exception of DW13, there weren't any Bowden QBs on the roster until this year, that would have been remotely close to playing time. It has become abundantly clear with 2 years of watching Pohl, that he is not the right QB for a Bowden offense.
  7. I don't agree that Pohl is the starter until Woodson beats him out. I think the competition for starting QB is wide open next year, and if Pohl is the starter next year...look-out for another lack-luster year on offense where we struggle to reach 6-6. If Pohl is our BEST option at QB next season, that doesn't bode well for this team next year...or into the future. I personally would like to see Kincade, or Chapman step up to the position. Kincade redshirted this season Lance99, same with Chapman...this was his year out due to being a transfer, and the redshirt year has been burnt as a result of that. Kincade has 4-years left, Chapman has 3, if I'm not mistaken. Hirschman does graduate this year so he's not a consideration at all.
  8. Nope. I absolutely love listening to Bowden in his interviews, and I think he says all the right things all the time. Everytime I listen to coach, I feel better about what's going on with our program: he doesn't promise anything, and doesn't sugarcoat anything.
  9. Agreed. I think there are only a handful of ways to realistically improve attendance at games, which vary for each sports. Men's Basketball: 1. Schedule Bigger name opponents (this will also relate to No. 3) 2. Have a huge winning streak/Televised games against opponents during that time 3. A better Arena No. 3 I think is the most important. As avid a fan as I am, the though of going to the game some weekday nights is unappealing...especially when I have to sit on horribly uncomfortable bleachers to watch us play a school from BFE. And I'm not a casual Zips fan, so I can't imagine what it'd be like for those who are. We did see attendance increase in 12/13 with the win streak on the line, but (again) there was a saturation point with just how many people would show up. Better than a regular weekday without the win streak, but still not a "sell-out". Football: 1. Schedule bigger name opponents (the attendance boost will largely be a boost in the opponent's fans) 2. Schedule better "give-aways" for students. AKA not stupid stuff like bobble-heads. The BGSU game had a decent student attendance for a horribly cold and wet weekday game. There'd probably be a few more if it was a nice day. But again, I don't think the football program has as much potential to grow as some think it does. I also don't think football games being nationally televised from The Big Dialer, has any real impact on attendance. Soccer: 1. Win a National Championship the season before 2. Play State Ohio University at home But the thing that needs to be pointed out here: is the the vast majority of any of these attendance boosts is going to be student attendance.

  11. To play devils' advocate here Zach...Men's Basketball has sustained success for a long time, but attendance has never seemed to reach that "next-level". It has improved over Dambrot's tenure, but not in huge amounts. There's a saturation point it when it comes to a successful program and attendance... I blame the JAR for ours
  12. Well said DiG.
  13. IMO this should be a test for our Lady Zips traveling on the road against a "major" opponent. So far our schedule hasn't been with too many big name schools. Keep rolling lady zips! Keep on rolling!
  14. UMass will be leaving which will make the numbers even again....
  15. Jrship35, thanks for comments that come from personal experience! I always enjoy reading them! As for the Chapman, I'm all for it...so long as we run an offense like we had in 2012.
  16. Final score 81-63. Lady Zips advance 8-0. Sina King double-double.
  17. Lighting it up in the second half! Shooting 58%, Three players in double digits...9 mins left, if Sina can get one more rebound she'll double-double.
  18. If my count is correct...it seems that we have 14 incoming next year? The 8 on the list and the "super six"?
  19. DiG, granted I'm not that skilled at recognizing the different fouls all the time...and I've only been following Zips basketball for about 6 seasons...I don't think I've ever seen a palming foul...because I didn't even know it existed and had to go look it up.
  20. Those are all from Akron Felt and Chenille? Those look about 1000000x better than the lame team store ones
  21. I don't think it will have any effect on recruiting whatsoever. 1. Shop lifting and domestic violence should never be put in an equivocation. 2. Two instances of domestic violence are not inherently equivocal.
  22. It is time for the Lady Zips to have game-specific threads. After being on break for exams, the Lady Zips (7-0) get back on the court against Bethune-Cookman (3-6).
  23. I don't get why you think that's ridiculous. Pohl isn't the leader we need, he never was. We can make all the excuses for him that we want: poor WRs, bad OL, concussion...on-and-on-and-on. Those were not Pohl's problems. His problems at the position are those that you cannot intrinsically fix with an OL or WRs or coaching...he just doesn't have what it takes. The Pohl from 2013 is the same Pohl we had from 2014. You expect it'd be anything new in 2015? It's time to have a open competition. If he can hold on to the position, good for him. But if he does hold on to the position, I don't believe that will be a good sign for the Zips offense in 2015.
  24. I will be giving them a call for the holidays! Thanks Zips Nation! Has anyone gotten anything from Felt and Chenile and can testify for it?
  25. Or Hilltopper IS Keith Dambrot?????
