  1. It isn't stupid, and that's coming from the guy who worked six jobs (not all concurrently, but some of them yes) throughout college, and struggled to go to games because of it. I don't know when you graduated Skip, so I can't comment on that. But college has become more expensive than even a decade ago. From 1982-2006 college tuition increased 436%. Over that time Median income only increased 147%. CPI Increased only 106% over that same time. And that's just tuition. Students today are being asked to overpay for student housing, over pay for food, over pay for just about everything...more so than a decade ago and you don't think working too much isn't a good excuse? Time to get to know your future UA alumni, because this is the state of their lives.
  2. Those students also exist at every other University in the country. Just the State Ohio Universities of the world attract more of those who want to go to games all the time. So by population standards, less than 10% of students actually follow every basketball game at OSU, let alone any other sport. They go to the games/to party because it's for the sake of doing it.
  3. My point is that there was a lot of complaining about our schedule before the season, we just need to keep winning.
  4. Has anyone taken a look at OSU's schedule? It's pathetically weak and their ranked 20 in the nation...
  5. I think we had more students at our final game than Illinois. Go Zips?
  6. I'm beginning to think you're a grumpy old man GP1. Don't be a grumpy old man; embrace the players on your team who decided to come play for the Zips.
  7. There's been a couple times though that I went to bed Zippy was in the lead, get up in the morning and Zippy had lost. So I'm not sure if that holds Zach...
  8. Zippy is up 57-43. Keep up the pressure folks! If you haven't voted 50-times today, Tweeted 20 times, or done the 100-point challenge 20 times, get on it! Go Zips Nation go!
  9. Alright folks....last day...zippy is down 51-49...we need to make a push today!
  10. I don't understand your math Staton... There were 14 spots open before games opened yesterday. By my count, Houston, Mid Tenn St, Standford, Florida, W. Kentucky, S. Carolina, and Arkansas all became elligible yesterday. (7 teams)...meaning there should still be 7 left right?
  11. I always thought that I'd personally pay for a new arena to be built of I won the 600,000,000 megamillions
  12. What I'm saying is that we have a young team. An extremely young team, without it's dominating senior. The quality of freshman recruit that Miami would have is still going to be an edge above our freshman recruits, and had their dominating upperclassman. Young teams wear out fast, I'm not surprised we lost in the second half. By 28? No...but it's not time to get on the "same ol' Zips" because seriously...what can we expect at this point with such a young team? This team is going to win a lot of games this season, and play exciting basketball. Enjoy the ride.
  13. Folks I don't know what you expected. Like really? You think with a bunch of freshman that Akron recruits we're going to be able to contend with "BIG" programs? Please...enjoy the ride with these guys, it's going to be a fun couple of years.
  14. Just keep winning. I don't put any stock into this stuff.
  15. Staton would you be able to put up (or even email me personally) the 28 teams fighting for bowl eligibility? I wanna follow it myself
  16. Good post. But I think we need to stop thinking of it as a "merger" and more of a "non-competition". It makes no sense for UA, YSU and Akron to compete for the same talent pool, in almost all areas. Get specific schools to specialize in specific areas. I think the conversation about Athletics though, is one we don't even need to worry about. Any proposition that would merge athletic programs would never work.
  17. Same here! We're already 2/21, or 9.5% of the way there! GO ZIPS! Take care of business against the U and then we're really talking about a fantastic season!
  18. Folks, time to step up our game! Zippy's down 54-46. Time to rally the troops!
  19. TeamRankings.com doesn't have much confidence in the Akron Zips in this game.
  20. I'm going to going to admit something on this topic, I was wrong. I absolutely hate these weekday games. At first I was a huge supporter of it because of some misguided notion that national exposure was going to be positive. I'm beginning (and I'm dead serious when I say this) of how wrong I was. Our "nationally televised game" was axed off the network in lieu of college basketball...and thats when it hit me "who the hell cares about watching the Akron Zips on a Tuesday night when there's college basketball on". I'm with you guys on this. HORRIBLE. I was wrong.
