  1. Yes it is. While I was going to Akron I worked as a server and had noon shifts that prevented me from going to the vast majority of the games. Thankfully that was during the ICoach years...I was a little bummed about not being able to go because I always had wanted to. Most of the friends I had in college also worked on the weekends. I think this is actually true for most students at most colleges. UA's still a mostly commuter school. And if students are going to be living in those absolutely ridiculously over priced student apartments, they are going to have even more need to work on the weekend during game times.
  2. I agree as well. Every single game on our remaining schedule is winnable.
  3. Sample size definitely too small. And: This map is basically a bunch of giant bandwagons.
  4. Last night (a Thursday night, while there was already NFL Thursday Night Football) ESPN had Arizona vs. #2 Oregon. Today ESPN has Utah vs. #18 BYU. I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks about the Pac-12, Mountain-West accepting weekday game deals with ESPN. All of the same arguments as to why we don't want weekday night games should apply to them. Why are weekday games okay for Arizona...Oregon...Utah...BYU, Stanford (next week), UCF (next week) but not us in the MAC?
  5. @LZip it doesn't surprise me. When you care about something...truly care about something...hard work, determination and facts are all that matter.
  6. Or a Cleveland Browns receiver.
  7. Generally when a receiver catches the ball he was open. I think a lot of the announcers gravely overstate a receiver being "wide open".
  8. After reading this article I know that these football programs bring in a lot of money. But $450,000,000!?!?!? Unbelievable.
  9. @skip-zip. Louiana-Lafayette wasn't a previously 1-11 team, we were. So I really wouldn't say Lousiana-Lafayette was a let down; they were a bowl team that almost got beat Akron. Ball State and CMU...I don't remember I wasn't a Zips fan @ that time. I've been saying this a lot to my father when I see him. He'll make the comments like "Wow, the Steelers just pulled a 'Cleveland Browns!'" I'm quick to correct him by saying "they just pulled the OLD Cleveland Browns". This is a new year. This is the NEW Akron Zips. And if I'm not mistaken, the black uniforms are coming out to play. The chance of a BIG let-down isn't there. Our guys are going to come into this game ready to play and ready to play to win. Last week will go a long way to establishing that this is 'The New Akron Zips'...but it'll go even further when we notch our first conference win in the first conference game! When was the last time we could say that? Go Zips!
  10. Gosh I hope the forecast does. I really want to watch a good game without getting wet. And I don't want to the excuses from why people can't go.
  11. I agree. Go Zips. MAC, here we come!
  12. I previously predicted my score and offensive stats. Here's a stab at the rest. Akron 31 EMU 10 Pohl: 200 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT. I don't want to predict running stats, because I think Hundley will start, and thus lead, but won't be the only back. I expect Chisholm, Lawrence, Morgan and Jones all to share carries behind Hundley. This is an opportunity to practice our run game, especially with the rain. I however do expect Pohl to throw some big balls, to iron out some of the problems that we've had in the passing game. Defense; will amass 3 INTs and 4 sacks.
  13. Akron 31 EMU 10 Pohl: 200 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT.
  14. There's a button on the right that you can click on, to vote if you think the ranking is "too high" or "too low".
  15. Well in some small part I think it does. Because historically we were in the 110+ range
  16. BOOM! It's probably because it's that awfully cheesy and horrible ad that's like 50 years old.
  17. I watched the ESPN 3 feed, and listened to it on the radio (for the big plays because there was a 60second delay, between the radio and the stream...and I LOVE hearing frenchie belt out Akron plays)...yes I'm a dork. Anywho...You absolutely could hear them on both. In fact, on ESPN3, the Zips fans were probably what I heard the most "Lets go Zips" "c'mon Zips!" often was heard.
  18. Tommy Woodson played in both the Marshall and Howard games yes. I was surprised, but it was the right call to make. Kyle needed a fire lit under is rear.
  19. I'm willing to step up and say that I'm one of those who saw Proenza's tenor as negative...at least towards the end. Now, you have to realize that my interaction with the Proenza Tenor was at the end...after we had the new campus, after we had all the new buildings, the new stadium, and the new Rec center. My first semester on campus the stadium was being built (which is why it has a special place in my heart despite all the losing I've seen there). Though I could see Proenza had pushed for a lot of change on campus, positive change, there was still a lot of work that (me and my peers) thought needed to be done. That shouldn't be seen as disrespect, or negative. Because we should always be looking for ways to improve, and sometimes students have a unique perspective because we're the ones experiencing the product (and are your product). On a positive note, I've seen UA take strides towards addressing many of the concerns I held for many years. However there is still a LOT of work to be done, and there will always be. I worry a great deal about the academic integrity and rigor of UA. Something they seem to be working on.
  20. Bowden has really made me eat my words. I will gladly admit when I believe something is wrong: but I'm blasted all NCAA coaches who are considered "the top" or "great". IMO it's easy for any coach to go into an already BIG program and win. Winning at the perrenial super-powers such as Alabama, OSU, Florida...to me doesn't make you a great coach. You're expected to win, and win big at those places, and you have recruitability. To me (the battered Browns and Zips fan that I am) the true test of a "great" coach is one who can take a mediocre, average, or horrible team, and make it great. The "great" coaches we know of have done that: the Bobby Bowdens of the world took Zeros and made them heroes. They started with absolutely nothing, and made something. Bowden I believe (and hope) is one of those coaches. He uses what he has available to build a winner, not wishful thinking. Akron will never out recruit State Ohio University; he knows that, and he's going to build a winner anyways. Absolutely love the guy. I don't think he thought it was going to be this rough of a ride, but we're slowly getting there, you can hear it when he speaks.
  21. Wow. And Elton get's paid to do that job. No wonder The Plain Dealer is such a joke. If ABJ doesn't be careful, it'll quickly become that way too.
  22. Good. Force them to upgrade the equipment.
  23. Or its because their biased. To think that "news sources/reporters" are not biased is ludicrous.
  24. This is basically the first homecoming of my Zips career that should be win. It's about time. Go Zips!
