  1. Wow a whole $5 into the surplus fund! Way to go Akron!!! I take it that it's $5-million?
  2. The problems of studies with CTE, and I'm not trying to downplay the findings but I'm a scientist and critical of all research whenever I read it, is it's always been on either people who have died mysteriously which led to an autopsy (Concussion Movie demonstrates this), or those conducted on volunteers who donated their brains to science. We don't have a valid base for which to compare to within the general population, so we don't have a good idea as to how frequent CTE is amongst the general population, which is necessary to understanding the impacts of one particular activity on CTE rates. We only have the brains of the 202 donated deceased former NFL players, not all of them...which also contributes to the problem with truly understanding the connection. Of course you're going to study 200 football players, because it's a high impact sport, but we also need to study the the brains of other populations/activities for comparison. With that said, it is clear that repeated head trauma is not good for the brain, and we're desperately trying to play catchup (as we always are in science research) to understand it. Hopefully we can find a way to diagnose CTE in living people. There is currently a 7-year study being conducted on 240 people age 45-75; 120 NFL players, 60 college players, and 60 men that never seriously took on contact sports. There are obviously problems with this methodology IMHO, but it's certainly better than the current way of diagnosing CTE in the living...which is none. It's certainly a step in the right direction. Perhaps the NFL and or Congress could step in and help fund the research so it could expand it's umbrella. But alas, I don't expect that to happen. NFL makes $$$ why would they want to fund research that could jeopardize any of it. And the opposite of progress, is congress.
  3. Did we expect anything less? Love being the underdog. Go Zips.
  4. My god, when did I ever say we were "stacked" at QB!? I said we've improved our QB situation over last year. I think that's objectively confirmable. We had what, one 1/2 serviceable QBs? This year we have One, maybe two-halfs between the other three? I mean I'm not saying each of them is freaking Barrett, I AM saying that our QB situation is more promising than last year, where we had to resort to using a converted WR for the last game. Please everyone stop making anything I say a strawman. What I said wasn't that off base.
  5. Once upon a time I remember when a certain Redshirt Freshman was third string on the depth chart behind Tra'von Chapman and Kyle Pohl, and ended up being better than both of them combined, oh right...his name was Tommy Woodson. Thank's for the personal attack though, keeping it classy as always Zipgrad01.
  6. How is that delusional?
  7. Here he is! Resident poop thrower! Who exactly was viewing Nelson as a program changer? Oh...that's right, people on this forum, Not I. BUT HE'S A GOD DAMN REDSHIRT FRESHMAN. I like how there's three people ready to like this post, and completely ignore the fact he's a redshirt freshman. Good grief this crap gets so old. I'm not claiming he's going to be good, I'm just saying theres a pretty good damn reason he's 4th, and it's not NECESSARILY because he's terrible. God, the self-loathing of Zips fans is just unbelievable. Who wants to become a new fan, if the current fans are like this? Lord have mercy. Let me say this again; IT'S TRAINING CAMP! YES IT'S A GOOD THING HE'S LISTED FOURTH, BECAUSE THE GUY HAS TO EARN IT. You're acting like this is game 10 of the regular season, get a clue. That goes for the three of you who liked this garbage of a post. You don't think a coach would want to give college LeBron a dose of humble pie by STARTING OUT LAST, IN TRAINING CAMP? Myles Garret started with 3rd string players in rookie mini-camp, should I be concerned? Good freaking grief. You guys literally will look for anything to cry about. Just unbelievable. Go Zips.
  8. What are you talking about? There's no cliff in that...it was an educational comment made to derail the conversation from the negative path it was on. I do that from time to time. And though it was a bit OT, it is a topic I often have to address with people. And it was an interesting point if you cared to read it, and understand what I was going for...
  9. Sorry skip, this is just a terrible take. He's 4th, behind last year's starter, a JUCO transfer, who has experience, albeit limited, and a lower division graduate transfer who has experience, albeit limited. If anything its a GOOD thing he's 4th on the list. He's a Redshirt freshman, and it's training camp. How is it a bad thing that there is legitimate competition for backup QB this year? How isn't that a good thing?
  10. I believe so. Nick John's was a JUCO transfer, Robbie Kelley transfered from Quincey University. With a lack of actual reporting from the local news papers, it's easy for us to get lost in the discussions on this forum. Lots of good info out there, just difficult to recall sometimes haha. I brought this up mostly because someone mentioned the "highly touted" Kato Nelson as 4th on the list as being a bad thing...considering he's behind two transfer QBs, and our previous starter back from injury, and it's his first real year after red shirting, there's 0% surprise he's last on the depth chart. Saying its a bad thing, when it's actually a good thing; this team was easily a 7-5 team in the MAC East, if we hadn't suffered injuries, especially at QB. The coaching staff has made a huge push in the off season to fix that problem, and not just rely on hope that Kato Nelson is decent.
  11. I had no idea where else to post this, so I thought I'd post it here. I received a Z-Fund Membership benefit thing in the mail today. It was a nice little fold out thing, with a novelty Z-Fund "ID" card, a car window sticker and a magnet. Cute little nods to the season ticket holders. So if you haven't received yours yet, be on the lookout for it.
  12. QB Robbie Kelley is a Graduate Transfer student, so it says RFr, that is incorrect (go figure).
  13. It seems like there are some on ZNO that will never be happy. With anything. Ever, when it comes to Zips Football. The Zips could beat Penn State and they'll be on here saying "it shoulda been by 2 more TDs...." unreal. As for the comments about people on the depth chart: Isn't this Kato's Redshirt freshman year? Gee I wonder, if we go look at NFL training camp depth charts if we'll find first round rookies listed dead last on the first Training camp/OTA Depth chart? Cause you know...they have to earn their way up the depth chart.
  14. This team was easily a 6-6, 7-5 team last year without injuries IMO. I love when everyone is so ready to throw a young team under the bus without seeing what they can do. 2012: 1-11 (scratch) 2013: 5-7 (success) 2014: 5-7 (failure, had potential to be 6-6 or 7-5) 2015: 8-5 Bowl Appearance, (success) 2016: 5-7 (failure, bowl appearance) 2017: I expect nothing less than a Bowl appearance. Record Doesn't matter to me. Anything above what's required to get a Bowl appearance is a bonus. Though I may be the only one saying it here: ZIPS WILL WIN THE MAC EAST this year. Consider it my bold prediction, and let the triggered snowflakes start throwing feces. 2018: Bowl Appearance, Win MAC East. Anything less is a disappointment. But this really deserves an * simply because if the team were to go 10-2 and lose a game in the last second against Ohio...I'll reconsider being upset because their 10-2...which in 2018 means they would have had to have beaten 1 of 2 BIG-10 teams.
  15. Fine if you want the proper, primate based, description of deification; feces. We're not much different from our chimpanzee cousins, we still throw feces at each other...albeit somewhat more creative. After all we are the fifth ape. Side note: I always hated the movie title "Planet of The Apes"...because it showed a distopian future where Chimpanzees ran the world...not Humans...where technically speaking we are currently on a Planet of The Apes...just the ape is us. I wonder if that's a hidden meaning in those movies. Hmmm.... At any rate...
  16. Thanks for the follow-up! I followed this intently when I was on campus, because I used it as a reason "why-akron-is-better-than-other-places" argumetns all the time. Haha, juvenile to be sure, but I'm a bull the U Akron. Silliness aside, I was sure it was DoD, and I'm pretty sure...as the story goes...it was because the all the experts in the field of corosion engineering were going to be retiring over the next 20-years, some 70% or ridiculously high amount. They all learned mostly by trial and error working in the field, but the DoD was worried they couldn't possibly replace those experts that quickly without funding a program. They shopped around many RustBelt universities, I believe several other MAC schools were in contention for it before it landed at Akron. There's a few articles somewhere out there on the interwebs... Sorry for the rant! It's certainly a great program that Akron needs to fund 200%.
  17. Bravo! Bravo! What wonderful Zips takes you guys! Sure makes it worth coming to ZNO to read this! Here's to hoping the Zips go 0-12! You guys really need to get a new schtick. Put your poop down, stop throwing it at the wall. You're better than this.
  18. Thanks for the condescension snowflake. It's just INCREDIBLY annoying for one positive/good crap talking comment about Zips football, the rats come out of the gutter. It's really, really, really annoying. Zips fans frankly deserve disappointment, we apparently look forward to it.
  19. You're right. I should just give up. The Zips are going to Suck. Warren Ball is going to suck. Everything about the Zips suck. Doom-and-gloom doom-and-gloom doom-and-gloom. Like seriously guys get a clue, all I was doing was calling a shot. I mean good god, go get something better to do. You're telling me you wouldn't be at least a little hopeful/interested to see what he can do againtst MAC teams busting out 100 yards on a big-ten team? GET REAL.
  20. Am I not allowed to be optimistic? Because if he can bust out 100 against top-tier teams, that'll be good for us against MAC teams.
  21. I mean he had 71, on 7 carries...against 10th ranked Wisconsin last year. Gets a couple more carries he gets 100. It all depends if the Zips are behind double digits or single digits. Zips barely ran the ball in the second half against Wisconsin. I'm just staying, it's not as unbelievable as you're making it out to be Keener.
  22. He'll have over 100 vs Penn State.
  23. Ball will have 300+ yards, 3 TD in the first two games.
  24. No. The posts before it Keener.
