Ohio beat Utah State 24-23 back in 2011. If the Idaho Potato Bowl is good enough for the 2011 Ohio Bobcats, it should be good enough for us. Now lets go out and win it.

Zips said they'd make an official announcement at 4 today.

It would have been even worse for State Ohio University to be the death nail to us. I'm not bummed about it at all. Soccer is our domain in this state. The worse State Ohio University is, the better IMHO.

Losing to State Ohio University in the first round obviously makes people upset. I'll happily admit I was wrong. Go Zips!

The nameplate thing is because the Jerseys were designed to have a "Zips" patch on the back instead of a name. It was that way until Bowden became coach and they started putting nameplates on the back. 2011: 2012:

Depending if we're the "home" team or not, I'd bet we'd go with something like the Black uniforms. We ALWAYS seem to do the black uniforms in national games for some asinine reason.

Oh right! I almost completely forgot about that, and I was one of the people upset about that. Zips are doing the right thing.

All the equipment this year was fantastic. They did a great job turning water into wine, considering they had the base of the old uniforms to work with. I kinda wanted to see Blue pants, blue jersey and the Gold Helmets against Can't, but I guess we wore that combo earlier in the year?

Because this is only after not doing either of those things since the moment he got here. I mean in community engagement alone; when drastic cuts were being made out of "need" he was rather silent. When the baseball team was cut, he was silent. When the ABJ, the community's largest single media source is producing story, after story, after story that paints a, albeit seemingly somewhat biased, picture he was rather silent. When asked how to fill "That-Stadium" he, rather negatively stated, that he wouldn't have built it. The list goes on and on... The point is that he hasn't chosen to engage the public in any meaningful way, and then attempts to reach out to the community in a way that fits his narrative. It comes across as dissingenuous, and that can be used against the guy. If you're going to "reach out to the community", than do it right. Do it everyway you can. Not only when it fits your own agenda.

Fair enough. I'm just trying to keep my Zips fan part in check and not expect too much and just enjoy the fact that we're in a Bowl again The MAC historically does pretty terrible in Post season Bowls...

Wouldn't that be what this program needs!? I'm not sure how much it would help us on the recruiting trail...but it's certainly got to be better than no-bowl and under 500. But we can't get ahead of ourselves, a Bowl team is likely going to be the caliber of the teams that beat us this year: the Oklahoma, Pitts or BGs of the world. I wouldn't mind a matchup against an Ohio or CMU like team.

Props to the ABJ, they ran a frontpage featurette and an above the fold sports headline story featuring the Zips; in fact, State Ohio University isn't on the front page, or the front page of the sports section. Good to see for once!

Did anyone go to the lighting ceremony downtown yesterday? The Scar gave a little speech where he talked about them adding a new mini "polymer" rink to the park downtown. Not one person clapped or cheered, he was met with silence...and some booing. He also tried to pump the crowd up with referencing Zips Sports (because we had a big win yesterday if you haven't heard) to which zero people were fired up about. This guy is clueless folks.

Interesting reading the comments over at the Can't Board. Lots of comments about the poor video coming from Akron games, I only watched one Akron home football game not at the stadium this year and the streaming was gorgeous on ESPN3...perhaps this needs to be added to the JAR like problems. Technically he already has a pretty damn good year going and he's sitting in the background: Bowl game for the football team, a 3-2 start for MBB with a win over an SEC team, a soccer team in the sweet 16... Better to be the quiet guy in the back of the room who's perceived to be wise, than to be the man who runs his mouth and removes all doubt.
