  1. As one of the younger members here...I take pride in the Blue and Gold, but I also don't mind different options. I'm a big fan of the "Roo" logos, wasn't a fan of the Z...but it's grown on me. The more I see "new" uniforms/ideas, the more excited I get about Zips football. Seeing all the Akron logos incorporated in unique and different ways, makes me identify with it more than I did before. It has a feeling of "new" as oppossed to "same old bs". I embrace change, so long as it is accompanied by success.
  2. I love both of them. Make the black one Navy and we're in business!
  3. The local population is still pro-state Ohio University. It's a cultural problem.
  4. I've been thinking about that this all season, but for some reason I don't think that's the case. There seems to be some locker-room turmoil on that team that needs to be settled. I don't think the Bobkittens will show up for either of these games this year. For any Bobcat fans who may read this on the forum and think I'm being disrespectful, I'm not trying to be. I throughly enjoy the Bobcat/Zips games...past couple of years they've been highly anticipated, highly entertaining games. From what I've seen out of the Bobkittens version 2014/15, is a team that's is some level of upheaval. 3 coaches in 5 years will do that though.
  5. Sorry! Thanks, must have missed that with all the recent developments on the recruiting trail.
  6. Akron picking up a transfer LB by the name of Darryl Monroe? According to the article, he will be eligible immediately.
  7. That's because we play in the JAR.
  8. That's assuming they would have chosen Akron despite getting offers from Wichita State and Wyoming.
  9. WHAT A GAME!!!!!!! I'll take exciting come-from-behind-wins every game! I hate blowouts.
  10. I'm not. We've got a NCAA tournament every-other-year streak to maintain.
  11. Shame. Scholarship vs. Pay your own way. Goodluck to Mr. Johnson.
  12. Was the Website down recently or have I been having computer problems? Anyone else have issues?
  13. Anyone worried about my boy Bowden still? I'm going to reinstate my hypothesis again (Jrship hopefully has the same feeling from the guy): Coach Bowden is hear for the long hall. He is the guy to turn this program around. He will retire as Akron head coach. But okay...does Riggins stand a better chance of getting more PT as a safety at Akron than as a LB at NIU?
  14. Has UA ever done an actual "interest" survey or focus group with current/real UA students? I'm curious...
  15. That's the way it was my first couple of years. There was a special "student enterance (north side) and we also were supposed to sit on the North side (which we never did, because the JAR isn't full...so why wouldn't we just pick where we want to sit?). But again...athletics needs to pick something and stick with it. The student section changed like three times when I was there. The last time being with the emcee yelling at students through the microphone to go to the correct student section (south side, while the student entrance was still on the North side...). Make it more convenient for students, not less. I mean, they're paying more than anyone in the good seats are a year! I would expect it to.
  16. I'm not necessarily saying we have to build a new arena either. I guess I'm venting frustration with UA, with the JAR, with Akron fans etc. But as I looked around the JAR I saw nothing that made me want to return (other than being a loyal alumni). To answer for the sake of discussion: Times I spent in the AK Rowdies, or at least near them, was the most fun games I can remember. So unified student section, where students can enter at anytime (because yes, some do come late). I've for a long time been an advocate for AK Roadie brass moving throughout the student section and unifying the cheers from multiple places. That would take some leadership on the current students, and perhaps some guidance from those in higher places. But Skip I'll confess, I don't know what the solution is. It's something that finally dawned on me yesterday.
  17. Sitting in the JAR yesterday with a couple of friends, watching the Zips grind out another win, it dawned on me just how much I hate the JAR. I'm surprised we have as many fans show up to that place. It's not a fun environment at all: and the college kids sitting near us looked bored out of their minds for large portions of the game. SOMETHING DRASTIC HAS GOT TO CHANGE.
  18. Jrship you now have me all fired up! Go Zips!
  19. I absolutely love this! What a wonderful thing to do in honor of coach peters. After the game (and season, whenever they're not planning to wear the jereseys anymore) they should auction the jerseys to raise money for research like they did last year for the Lady's Pink jerseys.
  20. Question for Bowden: Recently a certain college down south won the National Championship. Why should the Akron community, or those in NE Ohio, show up and show out for the Zips? I'm curious if he'd give the fiery and passionate speech that we know he can give us (in front of cameras?)
  21. I don't usually follow basketball recruiting...but these guys seem like pretty legit talent. This past year's class doesn't seem to bad either. I don't want to get ahead of myself here...but it seems like the Zips have a very bright future!
