With the Radford game cancelled, the next game on the Zips slate is against BGSU on December 29th to open the MAC season. BG is currently 5-4 having beaten Fairmont State, Ohio Wesleyan, Milwaukee, Chicago State, Duquesne and Oakland and losses to Western Carolina, Ohio State, Norfolk State and Southern Utah. They've won 3 in a row. They return Daewon Plowden (15.1 ppg and 7.4 rpg) and Trey Diggs (8.2 ppg) both of whom seem like they should be in their 7th year of eligibility by now. Last year, the Zips beat the Falcons by 12 at BG and then had an ugly 8 point loss to them late in the season at the JAR.

My point was that PLAYERS don't contact coaches at the D1 level. The HS coaches know how to get to the college staffs, they don't need numbers of public websites. Players aren't just falling out of the sky onto the Zips roster.

Last year, they were second in the Big South regular season standings and Winthrop won the tournament. Radford lost in the semis to Campbell. The season before they lost on the conference semis to Hampton after finishing tied for first in the regular season.

Naaaah, they just threw a dart at a map and it landed on UA. Pure happenstance with no contact. 🙄 I also suspect that the coaches numbers aren't published on a public website. If so, could you imagine Milwee's voicemail when he came in Monday morning? Also, if the players are trying to contact a coach and don't have his contact info odds are the school doesn't want him. Recruiting doesn't work in the direction of player>Coach.

Playing Radford is really nothing more than an opportunity for floor minutes beyond practice. It's not a great loss. Beating an inferior OOC opponent won't impress anyone and losing to them would do damage to the program's reputation. Even without Covid it might benefit them just as much to get heathy and well rested for the MAC season. I suspect it will take until the middle of February for this wave to end so maybe it's best if it goes through the team now.

I suspect Greg Tribble may have been the start of this. Hopefully, they can work this through and be ready for the MAC season starting on the 29th.

The Radford Highlanders (there’s an intimidating team name) come into the JAR to face the Zips Monday night. The Highlanders are 4-7 heading into a contest this Saturday against Davidson. Quite remarkably, they have no one averaging double digits in points, with 6-7 junior forward Rashum Williams leading scoring at 8.8 ppg. He is also second on the team in rebounding at 5.3 rpg. They were projected to finish 4th in the Big South North Division (I didn’t make that up). I have two tickets for this one for anyone that wants them. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Well, a kid who left the Zips because he wasn't going to play is the best player in the Horizon.

This is supposed to be the second best team in the Horizon. Not a very good reflection of the quality of play in the Horizon.

Agreed that they don't need an empty behemoth but I'd sure love to see a decent arena with good seating, decent sight lines and no glass and rail. I liked the block call on the charge and the charge call on the block.
