The point of college athletics depends in large part upon the institution. For the P5 schools, it's all about money and prestige. For schools like Wooster and Kenyon, it's about the further development of the person playing. The problem is that the schools in the middle like those in the MAC are stuck in the infernal cycle of striking the balance between those two extreme goals and as a result often fail at both.

For me, it's very simple. When the medical EXPERTS, those with education and experience, tell me to do something, I do it. If they want to give me advice on replacing brakes or how to bale a cake, no thanks. If they want to dip into my area of expertise and give advice, no thanks. They want to give me advice from their area of expertise as to how to avoid getting or spreading a pandemic virus, I'm taking it over the advice of angry internet posters. I don't care what some of the doctors may have said months ago at the start of the epidemic. It's quite easy to wear a mask and maintain social distance and I'd rather err on the side of caution. You can't reverse the time to wear it after Aunt Tilly drops dead. Oh, and spare me the political talk. I'm pretty darn conservative.

Georgetown has football. They play in the Patriot League as I recall. I actually like their athletics model. Kreed makes a good point- Infocison can't be deconstructed and the debt forgiven. It's a reality the committee and UA will have to live with for years to come. Rather then lament its existence, they need to figure out a way to make UA events the biggest events in Infocision every year rather than the Hoban- St. V game and Founder's Day.

I think it may be time to abandon sports forums until the Covid passes. The Covid debates are ruining every sports forum I regularly visit. I have a strong feeling on masks but I realize I'm not going to change anyone's mind, nor is anyone going to change mine at this point. As such, reading the name calling and debates serves no other purpose than to frustrate the hell out of me. I can't wait until this passes and we can get back to talking about the teams.

The Econ department just let out a collective sigh...

Wrong MAC but that's what's going to eventually happen to the right MAC. Los Cruces' and Clemson's economy are going to take a huge hit from not getting the traveling Zips fans.

Completely agree in the discipline and sacrifice. Unfortunately, the victims are often people who don't deserve it. They're often older folks who did their part only to have some selfish dimwit infect them.

You haven't answered the question. Bitching is easy. Solutions, not so much. People who don't see another home for the Zips aren't homers. If anything, they are quite the opposite. They're realists or defeatists.

Yep, replacing them with P5 in conference. I can also see independents Notre Dame and BYU filling their schedules and filling out P5 conference schedules by essentially joining a P5 conference for football (e.g. ND playing an all ACC schedule).

This is another step in the separation of the P5 schools from the rest of the NCAA.

You don't get your NCAA Basketball Tourney money and now you won't get your victim's assistance compensation for getting peeled by a P5 team. It gets uglier by the day. That Clemson money is swirling in the bowl as we speak.
