I don't begrudge someone taking a position they've rationally though and taken part in the process through appropriate channels. Those folks can rightfully enjoy their day and I won't begrudge them. Those, however, that whine incessantly from a distance and make no effort beyond internet pissing and moaning and look forward to result that gives them the opportunity to say "I told you so" without any consideration of the underlying lives involved in the result, can go pound salt. -

I was thinking more geographically than level. One that would fit, though it is FCS, is the Missouri Valley. -

Some highlights from the AAUP post cited by DannyHoke- We are aware of the request to units to prepare budgets that are 25% less than FY 2020. At about the same time, Faculty Senate was told that the university is committed to staying in Division 1 athletics. We are disappointed about this decision and will continue to raise our objections to cutting the central academic mission of the university while preserving non-essential functions. Please see the graphic below (the data come from UA’s audited financial statements) to see the changes in spending for operational, instructional and athletic expenses between 2015 and 2019. As you can see, across the past five years declines in UA total expenses basically match the declines in enrollment — with support for teaching and research decreasing 30 percent more than overall operating expenses. In contrast, overall athletic spending increased by 9.4 percent and direct institutional support for athletics increased by 17.6 percent across this same period. Putting these two together if instructional support and direct institutional support for athletics declined at the same rate as overall expenses, in 2019 there would have been $11 million more spent on instruction/research and $9 million less on athletics. Here's their spiffy chart- -

I'm not sure where Buffalo would go that made more geographic sense, especially for football. The other close schools other than Syracuse don't have football or have it on a much smaller scale. NIU on the other hand... -

It's going to be interesting to see how they work out 20 conference games and no divisions. I could see a lot of conference re-alignment in teams in conferences like the MAC. Schools with be looking to limit travel. As such, you could see teams on the outer edges of conferences, like NIU and Buffalo, look to move to conferences that involve less travel if one is available. -
I think they could do away with the basketball conference in the years the Zips win the conference title. ?
-
Only way to go is up! I really do hope it works out. I like Arth and the his priorities, so I hope this is the year we start seeing some results in the win column.

Both of their Athletics websites still have it on with the time TBA.

From Wikipedia- The division winners, assuming they are bowl-eligible, are guaranteed a bowl berth. 2019[8]: The LendingTree Bowl (traditionally conference champion versus Sun Belt) The Camellia Bowl versus Sun Belt The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl versus Mountain West The Frisco Bowl as an At-Large among BYU, Mountain West, or Conference USA versus the American Athletic The Bahamas Bowl versus Conference USA

The NCAA rule: "An eligible team is defined as one that has won a number of games against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents that is equal to or greater than the number of its overall losses (e.g., a record of 6-6, or better). Ties or forfeited games do not count in determining won-lost record." "If there are not enough teams that are eligible under those rules, the eligibility requirements change, but the minimum record for a team to become bowl eligible is set at 5-7. Teams with winning records always receive priority."

Not sure where I said it was a reason for anything. I merely stated an observation.
-
If you looked at actual attendance, I think men's basketball may outdraw football.

My experience with the ignore feature is that I put people in the "ignore lounge" and eventually let them out. They then generally reward me by getting in the express line to get back in.
-
Absolutely no reason, but they've constructed the roadmap to do it. 8 seasons of .500 or better football since going to D1--A/FBS in 1987. Absent a change in the culture at UA with respect to football, it won't matter whether they are in FBS, FCS, D2, Pop Warner or CYO. Hopefully, with a commitment to the program, better decision making and community involvement, they can build something that's competitive in the "new world" MAC.

That was a typo. Thanks for the additional info on the national ranking.
