  1. Both great kids who played hard and helped in a down year. However, if they were ever going to be major contributors, especially SIna, that's not a positive comment on the future direction of the Zips.
  2. $83 million in 2017 dollars.
  3. The reality is that the construction of a new arena will have require the participation of the voting tax paying citizens of Summit County and they have resoundingly said no. Russ Pry and the leadership of Summit County came up with a plan to raise funds, through a levy, to build an arena and fund the modernization of the county wide 911 system. Research and polling showed that while the citizenry might get behind the 911 system, the arena funding was going to go down big. As a result, they dumped the arena idea. The University doesn't have the kind of money with state cuts to pull it off and LBJ has given plenty to UA. Plus he'd have to pony up serious additional monies to even make a dent. Just so we're on the same page, the following are some recently built (or in construction) college arenas and their costs: UMBC Event Center Team: UMBC Retrievers Capacity: 6,000 (Up to for concerts) Cost: 85 Million Schar Center Team: Elon Phoenix Capacity: 5,100 Cost: 20 million Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center Team: Marquette Golden Eagles Capacity: 17,500 Cost: 524 Million Fifth Third Arena (Renovation) Team: University Of Cincinnati Bearcats Capacity: TBD Cost: 85 Million Welsh-Ryan Arena (Renovation) Team: Northwestern Wildcats Capacity: TBD Cost: 110 Million Wellness and Events Center Team: NJIT High Landers Capacity: 3,500 Cost: 102 Million CBU Events Center Team: Cal Baptist University Capacity: 5,200 Cost: 73 Million
  4. Speaking of Zips women, last I looked the softball team was something like 1-23.
  5. I wasn't aware one had to declare after all of their college eligibility was up.
  6. Ummm, wasn't this Antino's last year of eligibility? As such, I don't get the "entering the NBA draft" thing. I like Antino, but I think he's going right after LiAngelo Ball in the NBA draft. I hope the Sports Law Group has connections with GMs in Turkey.
  7. Because I can't handle my alcohol. I'd love to see a revamp of the JAR, ditching that awful track and the glass divider and improving some of the sight lines. That being said, I'm lucky to see a court for $60 a season!
  8. Good to hear. Like I said earlier, he was one those I'd least expect to leave given how he bought in early.
  9. 3 season ticket holders over a span of 4 days. Hopefully, it is just rumor.
  10. I never said they were founded or unfounded. I said it was brought up by a number of people with whom I had discussed the Zips. I was quite surprised by it and brought it up to see what others had heard. My hope is that it all has no basis.
  11. Exactly, with a ball and a hearty handshake. Jimond seemed to be one of those who bought in early and fully. I'd be very surprised.
  12. Anyone want to explain to me the rumor about Ivey not returning? I don't want to open a can of worms, but every fan I spoken to over the last week has brought it up.
  13. Well, the only entertaining game break activity just went into the old crapper- https://www.ohio.com/akron/news/breaking-news-news/university-of-akrons-president-matthew-wilson-stepping-down-to-rejoin-law-school-faculty
  14. No such luck CDMac. Can't get away to get down there.
  15. Kato better keep his nose to the grindstone. That kid looks like he could be a real player.
  16. GT season wrap up article- https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/university-of-akron/university-of-akron-mens-basketball-zips-growing-pains-this-season-could-set-up-program-for-success
  17. Visually, it looked like a JV vs. varsity game. Littler guys vs. the bog guys, good uniforms vs. the old uniforms... Unfortunately, the entire sports nation will talk about how great it was all weekend but it will make absolutely no difference to the NCAA as to how they view the tournament.
  18. I got really lucky and turned on the UMBC/UVA game about a minute into the second half and stuck with it. I kept expecting it to go south for UMBC, but they just kept turning it on. Unbelievable.
  19. Two words I thought I'd never utter- " Go Buffalo!"
  20. Jimond Ivey was spirited and occasionally showed signs of being frustrated, but he was never a bad teammate requiring the intervention team leaders or the coaching staff. Comparing Ivey to Cotton is like comparing Eddie Haskell to Attila the Hun.
  21. Skip-tradamus!
  22. I don't see that UA "gave up" on Virshon. What I see is a player whose "character" was not in line with what Groce wants to achieve, the type of issue that causes team dissension and drama that individual talent can't counterbalance. You only needed to watch his interactions on the bench with his teammates and consider Groce's comments from the EMU postgame to see this coming. I wish the kid well wherever he ends up, but this outcome was predictable.
  23. If getting to the dance was indeed his goal, he certainly had a better chance of doing it where he ended up then he would have with the Zips in a transition year.
  24. Old Tubby was whining a couple of weeks ago about how often college basketball players transfer. This from the guy who's been one of the most transient coaches in college basketball. Hypocrite.
  25. Back to my often made point. You can appreciate all KD did AND appreciate what Groce is doing and support the effort. They needn't be mutually exclusive positions.
