It's not depression, it's REALITY. I'll still show up and root for the Zips and I am confident he'll get decent players, but this is clearly a year of rebuilding and transition.
I think it is very safe to assume the Zips are in for a down year. They lost the 3 players with MAC honors, the starting point guard, their 6th man, three reserves expected to contribute substantially and 4 starters. I hope for big things from Groce, but being a miracle worker is not one of them.
No, I get your point. I agree KD shouldn't be poaching UA players. My point is that the whole scholarship obligation thing is a two way street.
On another topic, let's say KD didn't initiate the contact. He has an awful team he needs to rebuild, knows and likes a kid, and the kid is calling. Should he hang up the phone?
Amen Skip. I wasn't happy when I heard about Antino breezing through the presser, but he's a kid who's had no controversy in 3 years at UA and as I recall is on schedule to graduate early. Getting to class or another obligation is just as plausible an explanation as disrespect at this point.
It seems like just yesterday that we were discussing how deep we were at guard but that we needed some bigs to step up next year. How quickly things can change.
Fair enough Wadszip. I see Ivey at he 2 and Utomi at the 3, or vise versa. I think there may be two starters out there that are not currently enrolled at UA.
I like Ivey, but he's not a ballhandler. He dribbles way too high without much finesse or control. Somewhere there's a JUCO kid that can hold that down.
I've always been a "pro-transfer guy" in cases where a coach leaves a school as that player-coach relationship is often what drew a kid to a school in the fist place. Now that it's "my school", I am good and pi$$ed off that these kids are jumping ship, especially those jumping to Duquesne, but I'd be a hypocrite if I pitched a fit about it. Good luck to them. Time to move on.
I get the disappointment with losing him, but I don't get the type of anger that results in you withdrawing your money. Maybe if I knew some of the behind the scenes stuff I'd get it.
He was the HIGHEST PAID COACH WITH THE HIGHEST BASKETBALL BUDGET IN THE MAC. Other than get him into another conference or retroactively make his dad an alum, what else could they do for him? They need to realize that they are UA Alums, not University of Dambrot alums.
