  1. Nice recap. I'm afraid these first two weeks could have damaged Finley's psyche to the point that he'll be quickly bailing on plays all year, even on perceived as opposed to actual pressure. Next week will be telling.
  2. Deal. But...you are responsible for halftime orange slices and postgame refreshments for the players.
  3. I think the general consensus among the Zips opponents" DCs is that Tahj, with a 48% completion percentage last year, is a solo threat QB.
  4. They're not firing Moorhead. The days of paying multiple head coaching contracts simultaneously are over.
  5. That would require someone in a position of authority to give a $h!+. This would all be so much better with games on neutral fields in Florida and more tarps over the seats. Basketball can't get here fast enough.
  6. Here's hoping that Finley is not substantially hurt and doesn't have PTSD from that experience. You could see how he got more and more concerned with the rush as the game wore on. Hopefully, his "happy feet" was a situational thing rather than something he'll have to continue to deal with as he missed some potential big plays by bailing out quickly when he felt pressure.
  7. Sport- if you're not a freshman and you're not contributing to Zips teams that are winning 2 games a year, you are likely not a division 1 football player.
  8. I suspect part of that is trying to keep up Taj's confidence for when they need him.
  9. 3-9. 4-8 if they beat Colgate. I hate making that prediction but after years of misery I am in "show me" mode.
  10. I was speaking to last year's withdrawal of parking for the GA ticketholders.
  11. It looks like inflation has finally caught up to Zips basketball. I just looked at my season ticket renewal (general admission) and it is $100, up from the $60 it has been for years. I think I can live with $6.25 a game! I just noticed that the ticket site says " All season tickets include one (1) parking pass per account."
  12. He also called it Akron University!
  13. Don't love it, don't hate it. Even if I hated it I would still be going to games.
  14. I think our passion for Zips basketball may be best measured by the fact that we're discussing and debating the schedule even before it has been released!
  15. I wish the kid well but this seems like a little bit of an overreach. Then again, Kansas probably doesn't offer spots to kids who they don't think will contribute.
  16. Agreed. I saw the headline and read the start of the story concerned but the article did a nice job of explaining how the non-signing was actually a positive.
  17. Very interesting. A wide variety of positions on important topics.
  18. Don't get me wrong guys, I am all for Cleveland and I am well aware we've played games there for years. I'm so old I remember going to a Zips game a the Cleveland Arena in early/mid 70s. It was a doubleheader and also included Case and John Carroll if I recall correctly.
  19. The downside of that is that the other MAC schools have been heard to whine about Akron and PCCC having a home field advantage in Cleveland. More Cleveland games could increase the whining. I'd hate to see that whining increase and result in the tournament being moved at some point.
  20. I believe Groce has connections to Huggy beyond the Akron coaching connection. When I spoke to Groce at the ice cream social years back he mentioned that he had just been with Huggins.
  21. It was nice to see that Grizzly Adams made it!
  22. Link to Ohio.com photos from the reunion- https://www.beaconjournal.com/picture-gallery/sports/college/zips/2024/07/28/photos-akron-zips-mens-basketball-reunion-bob-huggins-enrique-freeman-indiana-pacers/74578692007/
  23. I was enthusiastic until I saw UMass.
  24. Does anyone have an update on how Chris Payton's summer league is going? 😁
  25. I see the Pacers signed James Wiseman. Talk about two players with different paths. He and Enrique are both 23 and will be looking to provide quality depth, but Wiseman was the second pick in the 2020 draft, has been handed everything and will entering his 4th NBA season while Enrique worked his way to where he is and is a rookie at 23. Here's hoping the Pacers reward hard work over 4 year old press clippings.
