  1. Also an opportunity to take advantage of the size advantage on their 4 guard squad. Their starters are 6'7", 6'2", 6'4", 6'2" and 6'2".
  2. Yep, I can see them drawing him out on the floor with Simmons and trying to get him tangled up in pick and rolls and taking it at him on penetration in hopes of drawing fouls. I'm not getting a good feeling about this one.
  3. If 5'8" Loren Christian Jackson can play defense without being a liability Tavari should be able to figure it out. He's had his lapses and he'd prone to getting a little abused due to his stature but it's largely all fixable with effort and concentration. For a veteran squad they have had too many defensive lapses resulting in easy baskets.
  4. I've heard the Achilles is the toughest injury to return from, even worse than an ACL. Hopefully, there's more progress to come.
  5. I wonder if Dawson's Achilles injury is still haunting him. I love the kid's heart and support of his teammates but he seems reluctant to go to the basket and has become completely one dimensional on offense.
  6. The Zips head to Toledo Tuesday hoping to hang on to sole possession of first place in the MAC. Since playing the Zips, the Rockets have beaten Eastern and OU while losing in double OT to App State in the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge. 6’4’ junior guard Ra’Heim Moss leads the Rockets at 16.4 ppg while also contributing 5.7 rpg. 6’2” junior guard Tyler Cochran is the Rockets’ leading rebounder at 6.8 rpg while contributing 13.5 ppg. 6’2” junior guard Dante Maddox is averaging 15.9 ppg. Hopefully, the Buffalo game wakes the Zips up. Toledo at home, with their 4 guard offense, could be quite a challenge for the Zips.
  7. Prather was on the postgame and came across very well, as we would hope for a Zip. From listening to him and Groce, he was the practice player of the week so they were looking to work him in, and that was ramped up when Dawson got in foul trouble. Groce was not happy, especially with the first half and readily admitted it would be a long night Tuesday if the Zips play that kind of 20 minutes. He praised Prather. He also commented in Tavari's offense positively but said he wasn't nearly as good on defense.
  8. Be nice to have this one over.
  9. I'm getting a little aggravated with one guy dribbling on the perimeter while 4 guys watch.
  10. Dawson played 5 minutes early and hasn't again seen the floor.
  11. As an aside, the Progressive "Becoming your parents" commercials are the best.
  12. Someone needs to tell Mr. Battle the half is only 15 minutes.
  13. I think that may have been a message from Groce to the guys in the rotation ahead of him.
  14. Jesus, burn that tape.
  15. Prather in. Groce is pi$$ed.
  16. They just gave up a 12-0 run to a 3-21 team. Yikes.
  17. Yep, they seldom seem ready on the catch.
  18. Rough day for both of the rims in Buffalo today.
  19. Similar to the free throw percentage today.
  20. Not moving well on offense today. Lots of just standing on the perimeter.
  21. They are last in MAC field goal percentage at .415 so I'd say all of their shooting is not good!
  22. No vest for Groce today. 🤔
  23. Hard to believe Buffalo's fall in MAC basketball. Seems like just yesterday the Zips were facing guys like Justin Moss, CJ Massinburg, Jayvon Graves and many other top notch MAC players for the Bulls. How quickly things can go south (even for a team from the great white North). I always enjoyed the rivalry games so I hope they are on their way back.
  24. I heard there's a Zips game tomorrow against Buffalo. Anyone have any info on this?
  25. Nothing like a tournament win or two to "persuade" a kid to rethink his choices.
