Somebody who FSU didn't need because he couldn't stay on the field. He will be on the field here...yes/no?
-
Don't need a lawyer,he said sheepishly. Use a gun in commission of a felony you get 3 years 'wild' with whatever time you get for the underlying offense. BUT, if he has a REAL good atty. he might get it reduced. The pipe was less than 500.00 so he didn't cross the threshold. Nice teammate though.

Naturally nobody cares about the players. Admin and coaches and obviously some 'fans' see them as nothing more than ways to bring in cash to the athletic department. The AD can go to the prez and say look at this TV money we are bringing in to the athletic department..Unfortunately at Akron making money with attendance will never be an issue. Never happened, never will.

Interesting conversation. Not sure if attendance at one MAC school like OU is going to tell the story. The schools that don't and have not historically drawn sizable crowds, like Akron,Buffalo,EMU,etc. are going to look at how they can bring in more revenue outside of paying customers. Which probably means the MAC as a whole is going to go after the TV $$$. Some of us may not like weekday games. Some of us don't mind them. Personally I like watching other MAC schools on TV during the week. TV is not going to adversely affect attendance at Akron at this point. HOWEVER,from a players and coaches standpoint what I have to imagine is a big negative is the 'short week'. When teams play a game on lets say Saturday then turn around and have to play on a Wednesday or a Thursday. Bad for the players physically(and for some academically). And,bad for preparation by the coaching staff. Sometimes teams get the week before or the week after 'off' but if you start playing a couple of those games during the season it builds up. Wonder what the players and coaches actually think about this?

Was recruited by Ivy schools and couldn't crack the lineup at Colorado. Ummmmm.

Went to the game. Nice day for a change. Still not many fans. Briefly, for what its worth Pohl looked fine. There are some RB's to push Chisholm. They were using him in the passing game. He looks like a WR,frankly if he learns to catch the ball. On defense, sorry Jamel Turner doesn't appear to have a clue. He wasn't around the ball and he looked like he was avoiding contact. But,not many points scored. The D did look a little quicker. This team will be hard to evaluate until it plays another team with some more talent on both sides of the ball.

Unfortunately,Akron was snowed by the BS of BK. Lots of AD's have checked their common sense at the door when confronted with the possibility of saying no to a Knight, an Alvarez a Tressel etc, etc.

Maybe some 'big plays' on defense at critical times in the game would help. That doesn't necessarily have to be a pick or recovery. But more of those are sorely needed. Making a stop on 3rd down when you have the opponent inside their 30-40 yard line obviously helps the offense. The defense is sorely in need of a ball hawk in the secondary who can take away part of the field from the offense. Not sure that we have seen one yet. A linebacker who can make plays at or behind the line is needed. If the defense improves in 'getting off the field' by making plays, this team could show significant improvement.

Again, part of the reason he was released and has not been signed may be due to the possible concussion issues. Didn't say anything more than it could be a part of the reason. Doubt that Harrison specifically was destined to change this guys life by stuffing him. Could have been any player who reflexively decided to jam the guy into the turf. Doubt that Harrison was motivated altruistcally. Fortunately, the idiot's neck wasn't broken when Harrison slammed him. Probably would have been looking at a little different scenario for Harrison and the idiot.
-
Probably part of the reason he was released by the Stillers and he wasn't signed early as a free agent.

Ya gotta hate it when a team is always dangling by a thread. If everything doesn't go exactly as planned(kids will be kids) the whole thing tends to disintegrate. Here is hoping they can suck it up and win the tourney. Otherwise it could be somewhere south of the NIT.

Lived in Plano,TX back in the mid/late 80's. In case any of you missed it Plano was the fastest growing city in the country back then. They had football teams at Plano High that consistently competed for Texas state championshionships. They were just building Plano East. Now they have a third,Plano West. Allen,TX was basically a little crossroad next to Plano where people were just starting to move. McKinney was just north. If you have never lived in Texas you have no idea how big football is down there. You can read about it in the papers here but you have no idea. I lived in Ohio all my life until I ended up in Abilene,TX in 1982. Abilene High and Abilene Cooper were always good. Just down the road on I-20 we had Odessa Permian,Midland Lee and Midland High. Love to hear from anybody who actually lived in Texas for any length of time.

I think Presley showed enough before he got hurt that if he is healthy he will contribute. But,I think some of the new guys, including the XFERS and maybe a guy like Lane are going to have to contribute if the D is going to improve. And it needs t. Coach Chuck needs to show it this season. While I am still not convinced the O is going to be 'fine' IF TB can fill the losses on the O-line,IF the QB situation is at least stable and TB can find some competition at RB....Still too many ifs for any consistency to be expected. TB needs to win 4 games this year, but still not sure if he will have the horeses to compete for at least another season. Hope springs eternal.

Surprised there were no comments about recruiting. Scout had the Zips around 106 in the country with Toledo the top MAC team if I read correctly. Rivals had them lower with BGSU and Central at the top of the MAC. Hollis, the DT out of Iowa looks interesting. Hopefully Jerome Lane will pan out at LB.

Not really sure why this would be a revelation or why some might question the statement. I believe the term that some of us used on this site last year was to have the QB run 'effectively'. Doesn't have to be a Lynch. He was an old wingback formation RB who could throw effectively. Even in the NFL now the QB is needed to become at least a threat to p/u a first down with his feet. Charley Frye wasn't a real good passer but he could scramble enough in college to keep defenses 'honest'. We saw last year that defenses have adapted to the rythmn passing game. TB is to be applauded for being wiling to adjust.

Said it before,Dwight Smith was the best player at Akron that I ever watched. To me he was more impactful IN COLLEGE than Jason Taylor,Charley Frye,Victor Green etc, etc. He made offenses change to avoid his side of the field and could support all over the field.. Then he returns picks for TD's in the Super Bowl?

If the U of A AD had PERIODICALLY spent money to update the Bowl they could have saved a helluva lot of money. To sit in the stands and watch,it wasn't a bad place. Obviously, Info hasn't dragged in the throngs of students as advertised. There is no way that Info will ever return the investment. Goodbye to the Bowl old friend.

Presley impressed me during the time he played. When he and Griggs played the line was better. Agree on the secondary. It has been a trainwreck for several years. The LB's don't have a game changer right now. Still not completely sold on the running game. That especially with losses on the O-line. I still think TB needs a quicker smaller RB for his offense. He also needs Pohl to be able to move around behind the line more than Williams. He also needs to be at least a little more of a threat to run when the opps are there. Still lots of questions.

Went back and looked at the game program from the UCF game in August. If I counted correctly there were 15 or so seniors listed there. I know there have been and will be some changes. That was a lot of Jr.s,Sophs and Frosh. Unfortunately some of the graduations were at some key/weak positions. QB,LB some O-line,some D-line. The program is still going to be counting on Ianello recruits and how TB can coach 'em up to be successful. We wil see if Ianello was any kind of recruiter. I think Pohl might be OK. But the defense didn't show much last season. I am not convinced that the right mix of staff and players are in place on that side of the ball. TB needs another year of bringing in JC's and transfers if this team is going to significantly improve.

No problem with the schedule. Shoot everybody thought UMASS was going to be a cupcake coming in here last year. That didn't work out well. Still don't understand though why teams don't play every team in its own division every year then fill in the conference schedule from the other division. Would seem logical for competitive and rivalry reasons. But,until you can compete with and beat the best teams.....

MAC Announces 2013 Football Conference Home and Road Opponents
Lee Adams replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Let me say again, until you can compete against the BEST teams in the MAC then don't make excuses. The program has been 'rebuilidng' for how long now? B.S. You don't get a pass when the admisitration makes sh'''y decisions. Thats the administartion making decisions for the program. The people who whine about the schedule only perpetuate the losing mentality. Either beat the best or go home! -
All the whiners who don't want the prgram to move back to I-AA are the first ones to complain about the schedule. If the program can't compete against the best MAC teams, get out.

MAC Announces 2013 Football Conference Home and Road Opponents

Ya know, stop posting like a loser. Either you compete w/ the big boys or you go home in November. If this program is progressing we will see when it plays against the top programs in the MAC. No reason to stay in the MAC if you can't compete against the top teams. -
I have never been a big Amato fan. Have stated it before here. Especially, since Akron beat him at NCST. Its not too difficult to 'look' like a good coach at FSU. Talent went/goes there just because. He doesn't have the energy or maybe the skill to coach up players at this level. Maybe there was some paying of dues or consideration bringing him in. This program needs a younger position coach that can be more flexible.
