  1. If only it were that easy. Why is a QB from a ,winning' program( your example)transferring to Akron? Lots of better choices even in the MAC Toledo,OU... Winning HS players? Where do they go? Big 10, maybe another P5 conference or another G5 conference? The program has to perform better consistently, not just every 10 years or so. Sad!
  2. Amen. I can't count the number of Acme/Zip games I went to. Unfortunately, I am that old. That game was publicized all over the area by Acme and the media. Ya, the tickets were cheap but people showed. They had people parachuting into the Bowl among other entertainment attractions every year. If only for a short period of time people were interested in Akron football. Most of that is when Akron was DII. But they won. Then it stopped. Someone told me the University apparently thought it cheapened the product. Don't know that for sure. But, I have wondered for years why the University wouldn't reach out to local business to do something similar now. At least they might get some relativley big crowds a few times a year. The players would sure notice. And, it would sure make it a lot more attractive for the general public to attend a game or two. That said, Akron football never has, never will be a consistently big draw. But, the Athletic Department does nothing to try to improve visibility.
  3. What I am afraid of is that some of his recruits, either from HS or via the portal may come in here, not like what they see or experience and leave by the portal. After 2 seasons, a name only goes so far. Players may see the record and question coming here.
  4. I thought 6-6 before. With what I have NOT seen from the Zips and from what I have seen from the rest of the MAC, 3-9 might be a stretch.
  5. Seriously, a shame about Irons. The thing you can say about him is he gave max effort. Hope he recovers.
  6. Don't look now but BGSU beat a bad G.Tech team. Looks like a race to the bottom.
  7. Genius?
  8. Not his fault that Moorehead put them in that position that late in the game!
  9. Why is he not at Miami with Cristobal????? J.D. was the brains here.
  10. Does anyone actually know why Cristobal didn't take Moorehead to Miami? I don't want speculation.
  11. I see plays called with many passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. I see receivers who catch the ball with backs turned to the field. Play calling!
  12. How ironic that they 'honored' Jim Dennison, the coach that got screwed when they hired Faust. I think Dennison even got them into the 1-AA playoffs 1 year after they statrted to move to D-1. No, they had to have a high school dropout who couldn't even win at ole' ND. The program has never been the same.
  13. As we all know here at Akron, coaches are clearly not infallible. They make LOTS of mistakes. We are witnessing just that this season...again.
  14. Or the coaches can't utilize him properly.
  15. Last week WAS a mirage!
  16. At this point don't care about the score. I am tired of watching Moorehead's marshmallow offense. I am tired of his offense hanging the defense out to dry. I am tired of watching Irons try to play QB. I am tired of Moorehead in desparation inserting a QB who has watched the entire game from the bench. No run game in the offense. That's Moorehead's fault. Staying with a QB who holds the ball too long, is generally inaccurate and makes poor decisions. Even a 'close' game isn't a whole lot of fun to watch. The results seem inevitable. To Buffalo's credit, they figured it out. They ran the ball between the tackles a lot. Their QB generally made good decisions and put the ball on target, on time. Won't win many more games this way.
  17. Been there, done that. Not convinced about the Zips until I see them win a game like Saturday. Still haven't seen the offense establish an 'identity' and ride it week in and week out. Two things that CAN'T happen Saturday, turnovers and undisciplined penalties. That happens UB wins. Otherwise Zip's defense should be able to control field position and give the offense shorter fields.
  18. Yes we are a little weird. But, think about all those orthopedic surgeons they are making rich!
  19. Yup! Now get the COACHES to finally buy into the idea that you can actually run the ball FIRST. And, I am not just referring to Irons running for 100 yds. Use the talent you have at RB. Take some heat of of Irons. Let the O-line do what it semms most comfortable doing..run blocking. I still want to see which team, including coaches shows up this week. Must win!
  20. A lot of rehashing of a lot of rehashing. The coaches and players must treat the UB game as a 'must' win. Whether they are favored or not, they can't lose this one. Being favored doesn't get a win. This could be a trap game for Akron if they have a big let down early. Coaches can't let that happen. If they put up the offense numbers they put up against Indy, and they cut the TO's and stupidity. Lets see if last week was a mirage or if this team has finally arrived.
  21. Agree that Moorehead must get out of his pass first philosophy for good. The O-line blocks better on the ground. The point about too much 'yapping' has never been addressed by a succession of coaches. Sit somebody's ass down if he does it. Still can't decide who the 'real' DJ Irons is. No time for a letdown. Don't get cute on offense. You have 2 winnable home games coming up. Until they win a meaningful game they won't learn how to win.
  22. Damn shame to lose to a bad team the way it turned out. Where did all that offense come from? Will the REAL offense please sign in and stay for a while. Woulda, shoulda coulda with Irons. Defense obviously the strength. As we have said before Buffalo IS the biggest game this season. Now the trick for the coaches is to allow NO LETDOWN. Build off of yesterday. If you can move the ball against Indiana, you can move it against UB. Don't get cute.
  23. Up fron, did not watch more than a few inutes of the game. Looked at all the stats, however. Couple of things jumped. Nunnally is a beast at this level! The defense for now is fine. But, it can't score points...Oh, wait the defense scored a TD last week and won the game?! Puzzling offensive stats. Irons threw the ball 39 times and completed 24 for only 130 yards? Undercuffler was 6-7 for 60 yards. Thats a lot of passing for that little amount of yardage. Akron ran the ball 23 times for 69 yards(I am excluding the Undercffler sack). Irons had 13 of those 23 carries. What were the RB's doing? Still troubles me that the coaches haven't settled on a QB. And, what they are doing ain't workin'! As stated before, I am waiting for the Buffalo game on Sept. 30 do get a handle on this team. If this coaching staff is still trying to figure it out then...ouch!
  24. At least Brookhart/Moorehead could come up with a coherent game plan on offense. And, they settled on a QB and fit the game plan to what he was able to do.
