this doesn't mean thomas, who is no longer here was THE ONLY ONE who realized the problems, he was the one who had stepped in to the job and wanted to lower expectations, like all good politicians do...plenty of us...you and i knew also...wasn't like it was rocket science...course thomas ain't here...we have had 2 losing seasons in a row...so what's wrong now?

  is running back a particularly pressing need? two guys named Williams and Allen were doing a relly nice job there already...

good point...isn't it odd that when Hixon, Blackburn etc left after '05 the Zips have won what...its called the perfect storm...confluence of events...don't see it happening next year...

I'll get to the lack of self awareness in a second.....The MAC Championship was won by Biggs and Getsy.....the end. The last time I checked, they were JD's recruits. Now off to self awareness.....One of the interesting things I notice when I see former players from the Owens era post, like ITZ, is the complete lack of self awareness. I know a lot of guys from the Faust era. To a man, they know they were bad teams with bad players. They have absolutely no illusions things were anything more than what they were. As bad as they were during the Faust era, I'd stack the talent level on some of those teams any day against the best team of the Owens era. In fact, the highest winning percentage in the D-1A era was by a Faust team (1992)......all without a new fieldhouse. The interesting thing about the Owens players is that they were bad players, and they don't know they were bad. They have sort of this over inflated opinion of themselves that so many young people have today. There have actually been recent articles in the Wall Street Journal about this attitude and how to handle it. Perhaps they were kept in diapers too long as children. Maybe in time they will grow up. JD didn't walk into an ideal situation, he walked into a barn knee deep in steaming crap. The talent level on the current team is very good. As a group, probably better than in a long time. Certainly better than any year of the Owens era. A decent QB and last year's team wins 7-8 games. Two additional games get won with a decent QB...Miami, CMU.first of all BIGGS NOT getsy was the real glue on the '05 team...we saw what getsy was all about in '06...if jd's recruits have been so good....where are the wins?...the head coach is responsible for the entire operation...prep,game day and recruiting...so far with HIS guys jd ain't makin it...

I will put the best spin I can on this news: As I recall, this is an improvement over a year ago, when we lost a couple more than this, and just one of these (Alphonse) is a potential starter -- though Jackson may have threatened at another position (RB in my opinion would be the best for him). Virtually every college football team loses players each year. It is good news if these players left voluntarily, rather than being told by academic authorities they were not welcome. Second, there are other players who are now looking around for greener pastures, and hopefully some will come and look at the fences going up on the beautiful Infocision Stadium complex. Wouldn't it be great to get a Big-Ten level quarterback transfer over here?I am confident the team is on the verge of turning things around. On the other hand, my fingers are crossed, so my cup is not running over with confidence. And like Lee Owens' brother, Lee Adams, I must say that another losing season must bring a coaching change. The worst case is that the powers that be will accept losing, an attitude we were supposed to have overcome already.Best wishes to the Zips for a championship renaissance in 2008. Mr. Owens might be insulted...but heck its a compliment to me...

Etienne is a bit of a surprise. He is young and ready to get playing time with 3 DB starters graduating. unfortunately when kids start jumping ship in this kind of situation it is a real bad sign...they know what is going on inside the prgram...if kids REALLY wanted to play for Brookhart they would stay...they don't want to play for this coach...next year is Brookhart's(er JD's) last year at Akron...
-
speakin of Jason Taylor...any thoughts on the Browns trading to bring him here...it would have to be a trade since he is still under contract....I know..I know he probably doesn't look like a fit for a 3-4 but a pass rush might be worth some sacrifice...
-
that well known source of reliable football information FOOTBALLSCOOP.COM mentions Brookhart and WVA in the same breath...anybody got anything on that?
-
12 months were we have loyal fans and fans that understand football and just do not blame everything on coaching.... That would be great....fans who understand that a good, experiecned coach and staff DOES make a difference....
-
you don't have to go out and get beat up the first 3-4 weks of the season to have a successful season or make a bowl game...nothing wrong with playing 1 sacrifice game a year then playing a couple of out of conference competitive games...but the ZIPS have recently hurt themselves in conference games because of their scheduling OOC...

doesn't look good does it?

Good News Concerning Will Flemming
Lee Adams replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
 thats interesting...those of you out there who want to give Brookhart more rope need to realize that he will kill recruiting for years if this team takes a dump next year...that crap gets around... -
seems KD and HIS team have developed a REAL GAG response since that MIAMI game last year...
-
Somehow I can't get too excited about 2009 football tickets when I can't even buy single game reserve seats for basketball in February. I was told that they only go on sale one month ahead. What gives, and when did this start .... it wasn't that way last year.they THINK they are good...
-
and we couldn't get to the championship game...
-
well then...you need to start the drum beat so the AD hears us...we will buy season tickets at the new place...just don't make us buy a lot of KY to do it..
-
If Kentucky would show at the Bowl we would have 20-25K at least...IF JD has a real good year in 2008...
-
the Nemer brothers are going to make Uof A pay for the Sun Grill
-
nothing on that but... what they should do is open the stadium up to fans who want to buy season tickets as soon as the place is done... mark all the seats available for purchase as season tickets with a tag with the price and location...fans can take the tags from the seats they want and buy those seats...they could see exactly where they want to sit and will be sitting...other places do it already...

WHEN YOU LOSE, FANS SNOOZE! for chris' sakes put a winner on the field...
-
Like I already said, Williams is the fastest guy we have had here since D.Smith....Smith was the standard in that regard...

some idiot on the CSU website says Brookhart has lifted Akron 'to unprecedented heights'...!!!!!????talk about no expectataions...No. The unprecendented heights was referring to our MACC in 2005 and our first bowl bid. I do not recall LO doing this!Comparing Brookhart to Owens means you have NO expectations of better performance...
-
Negative talk on this board? You make it sound like it is a crime for wanting more.......no expecting more, because that is what we should be doing. Sounds like you want us to sugar coat things. We both want success but you can't get there unless you acknowledge your weaknesses and mistakes. We wanna be big time you gotta act big time, expect big time, but at the very least you should minimize mistake, no holdings, dropped passes, redundant screens, etc. These are all easy fixes!!!!!I remember when Bill Snyder Kansas State's head coach at the time, came into our locker room after we just got our heads kicked in by his team, said that they were once where we are, and to stick to doing the right things, work hard, and not just believe but know you are better than your opponent, don't EVER settle for less.If you are used to a Faust 1-11 season a L.O. 2-10 season saying 7-5 is great is settling, it's settling for good when you should strive to be great. Saying stuff like *in a mopey voice* "Well we were 3-2 at half with OSU and barely lost to Temple, Buffalo, Miami, and Central. We could be 8-4!!Could be 8-4 don't sell tickets, get better recruits, or go to bowl games!!! The teams 8-4 or better like OSU, Indiana, UConn, Central ya know the teams we lost to?!! Go to bowl games, get better recruits, and don't have to fudge ticket sale numbers to keep D1 status. Teams like Louisville, Kansas St. Boise St., Hawaii, stop settling. Like we should too.Actually at many of the major schools, if a coach has too many 8-4 or 9-3 seasons he will be fired.I don't think anyone is asking for a NC or even a top 20 team. We are merely asking for a respectable and entertaining team to watch. We are aksing for a team that consistently beats the teams they should beat. Yes, there are upsets. However, there isn't usually 4-5 the same season. Once that happens, they aren't upsets. Here at Akron most of us would be happy with 8-4 and crazy about 9-3. I don't think that being negative because we aren't even a 500 team is a bad thing unless you are used to losing and accept it.We finished 2005 at 7-6 after the bowl game. Everyone called that a great year for Akron.........Talk aboiut being happy with mediocrity. If any national powers had consecutive 7-6 seasons, the coach would be gone in a heartbeat. Here at Akron we are happy about it.7-6 should be a down year/rebuilding year at UA. Not a good year. I couldn't believe early in the year when people called this a rebuilding year. What?????????????????????????????????? Did we go 8-4 or better last year? Did we win the MAC?How can you have a rebuilding year after a year that you were not very good? That is a losers mentality. We really need to change that. I am not calling for JD's head. He is a young coach that I think is learning on the job. Many great coaches took more than 5 years before they started winning. To call out posters and say they are being negative is absurd. If you want to see negative, go to other teams boards that are whining because they only beat a team by 21 points when they think it should have been more. Or they lose one game and are calling for a coordinators head. Not all negative talk is bad. Some of it is reality.THANK YOU!
