  1. How about WE'VE earned this national embarassment...even when we look this bad and I'm very critical of the performance I will still proudly be part of this fan base.Don't get me wrong, I'll be there on Wednesday. but I have the feeling that it's going to be very empty.another butt whippin' will happen Wednesday...and its going to be cold...MAYBE 5-6K tops...how freaking pathetic!
  2. sameGOOD NIGHT!
  3. where were you guys last year when some of us were complaining about all the 'sacrifice' games the ZIPS are playing every year? the players get beat up...they can't practice...it effects the MAC schedule and WE the FANS pay for it by having to watch losses...they want people to go to the games..get some home games early in the year against competetive teams at the same level..a few wins at the Bowl would have done wonders...
  4. what in HE double toothpicks is going on? the whole gd team is going to be suspended!? is the BG defense that Bad?
  5. As far as the coach is concerned, find somebody with a HEAD coaching resume...whether that is at I-AA or D-II,they ARE out there, especially with a new stadium coming...the AD? try to find somebody old enough to know who the hell Gordon Larson and Jim Dennison are...we have guys who are half MY age, well almost, running multi million dollar prgrams with a multi million dollar stadium coming who haven't found the MEN'S room at the D-I level. Don't tell me that UCONN,Central Florida, South Florida, Buffalo can get solid coaches and win in a reasonable amount of time. Hell OU got the head coach at Nebraska. I'd take my chances with that. Cincinnati got a solid OSU assitant and developed into a winner...What makes you think anyone would want the Akron job at what it pays? Jim Prye (sp?) left Akron after one year as offensive coordinator to go to Illinois and coach tight ends making more money than JD does. A new stadium isn't going to attract people. Tradition, ability to pay good assistants, fan commitment, etc. are better to attract candidates. We have none of those. Based upon what happened to Dennison, Faust and Owens after their time at Akron, the job is a complete dead end.The comment about age is silly. I have 13 employees who report directly to me and all of them are older than I am. Each of them thinks they are smarter than I am and none of them are. Just like Zips Win! points out, these guys have no new ideas and are riding out the string.........some are going to come to the end of the string before they thought they would when I get done in the next couple of months. Every time they try to prove how smart they are, I listen to them and then politely prove them wrong. Any study of any industry shows that the older someone gets, the less likely they are to take a risk. We need a home run hitter to come in here and hit some home runs. If a knucklehead like me can manage a $100,000,000 territory at 38, Mack or someone his age can manage a $10,000,000 Athletic Department. I just have an extra zero at the end of my number.YES you are right YOUR comment about age IS silly...I supervise 7 employees in a field that I dare say is more dangerous and challenging the MOST...I really do..ALL are YOUNGER than me..and my PERCEPTION at times is that they THINK they know more that I do...do they?...who knows?..one who is perceptive would have realized that it is NOT age but experience and CREDIBILITY...sometimes the longer you have been around the more ideas you have been exposed to,the more experience you have and maybe more credibility...but not always..if one assumes that because of the position they hold they have respect or credibility that person is a failure...OH money isn't the measure...do what I do..you'll see...any way...it wouldn't matter if Brookhart was 25 or 55...is he credible to the players and coaches he supervises? we will see...a Chinese proverb states that 'it is the truly wise man who knows his own ignorance'...

Cincinnati got a solid OSU assitant and developed into a winner...Some new information and confusion for me contained in your post Lee. For example, I didn't realize Turner Gill was a head coach before getting the Buffalo job. For what sport did Cincy hire an OSU assistant and become a winner?Mark Dantonio, Tressell asst at OSU...went to Cincy got that program going again...those are HIS kids there now!!...yep dad gummit just like I knew Turner Gill had no Head coaching experience but a hell of a lot more credibility than jd looks like he is doing a preyyt good job with THE WORST program in the MAC if not D-I when he took over...

  8. Hey ZJ, 1974 grad. Watched the Zips paly a game at Cuyahoga Falls High school, I think because the turf at the Bowl was so chewed up. I'd even love to see something like they had when I watched Larson and Dennison coach...ya think?

  10. you are right zips junkie...neither Rhoades nor Brookhart have ANY attachment to Akron other than a pay check right now...thats why NO ONE should believe they are not ready to move on if they think they can get a bigger check...its all business or so THEY say...
  11. We know all about delusions of granduer after one season...don't we???
  12. Lee Owens absolutely stunk. I can't believe anyone ever comes in here and defends him. During the Owens years, the following teams were better than us: BGSU, Miami and Marshall. None of those teams had either a new stadium or fieldhouse. How did they get good? What was the luck in the MACC? The way I saw it, we completely outcoached NIU in the final 15 minutes of the game. is anybody talking about bringing a Lee Owens type in here...I'm NOT...thats the problem the AD"S have brought in guys with NO head coaching experience...in the BIGS or at a level that would give them a track record...Owens was a line coach at OSU for 5 minutes for god sakes and Brokenhart was a WELL what was he? anyway there are plenty of I-AA or D-II head coaches who would love to coach in a new stadium...Brookhart has until the end of this year...not next...he is either improving the program or he can go be a special teams coach at Colorado State...
  13. Agreed...there is more going on here...players are not responding to coaches...coaches are doing the "square peg into the round hole' routine...I think some coaches may be leaving and the players know it...
  14. Was at the UB game on Saturday...sat behind the Zip's bench...some personal on the scene observations...THE GOOD: UB has a nice facility..very serviceable..on campus...free parking...the Pearl St Grilla nd Brewerey in Buffalo is the real deal...Williams and Allen are horses..they can play...Niagara Falls...what can I say...the O line wasn't that badThe Bad...lets go right to the ugly...THE UGLY: THE DEFENSE...nothing has changed...can't tackle...can't cover..can't rush...can't get iteself off the field..that starts with the D coordinator on down...blow it up and change it next year.....The OFFENSE...too many plays for losses ...bad play calling in scoring position...starts with the O coordinator...ends with players who can't execute...Jacquemain...nothing changes..locks on 1 receiver..panics...forces the ball...can't run...Kasparek...worst excuse for a tight end I have seen at this level in a while...runs wrong routes...weak after the catch...finally saw a coach get in his grill after he blew a route...cost them a possesion...Brookhart...seems to have detached himself from the rest of the team during the games...only with special teams...think he is rehearsing for another job...maybe worst of all..looks like the team has given up on Jacquemain and he doesn't want to or can't lead..except after the first and only TD when the offense came to the sideline..nobody talked to Jacquemain and he talked to nobody...sat with his head down...why would they count on some one like thatThats what I saw...What...Wait until next year?
  15. get real...these guys are circling the drain on their way down..
  16. Name a coach at Akron that has "padded" their resume here and moved on. and just how much HEaD coaching experience did o'l JD have when he got here? None? OH...then he padded his resume...And 'ol Mack? an AD somehwhere else?...no
  17. I got hammered on this site for saying that Rhoades/Brookhart are only here to pad there resumes and move on. Neither has any attachment or fondness for this area much less Uof A..both are young and looking to "glow in the dark"...don't try to tell me that either of them has a REAL commitment to AKRON...move on..
  18. I'm staying at the Sleep Inn in Amherst. Where is Duff's from there? How far from downtown?
  19. sometimes its good to be silly........keeps things in perspective...nobody should be talking about firing anybody until after the season is over...if they win 6 thats 1 better than last year...but if they start circling the drain this year the AD has to make a call...do Brookhart and his staff get to hang around for the new stadium or do you dangle that in front of a new coach hoping to get someone with experience in here when it opens...
  20. GP1...not that it means anything coming from me but thats great...Akron is too small in the BOX...Mackey was agreat kid but he was either too small or too slow...match up chaos..the D line can't control the line of scrimmage so O linemen are all over the backers and safeties... put 4 down d linemen... at least they can occupy more o lineman...
  21. 'funny' how his best 2 seasons were basically with Lee Owen's players...not a Lee Owens fan but its not a coincidence..best addition Brookhart made was Brett Biggs..HE was the heart of the 2005 team...but the basis of the team on both sides was there before Brookhart...we saw last year what Getsy was REALLY about..
  22. the program is in chaos 4 years in to Brokenhart's regime...he has let the QB situation fester to the point that CJ doesn't even stay with the coaches during the game...either he plays or he is gone...thats the coach not handling HIS job...making decisions to give the team the best opportunity to win...its obvious that at least some of his staff are not capable at the D-I level...lets look at a head coach with HEAD coaching experience...Lou Tepper over at Indiana Univ of Pennsylvania was at Illinois(thats a graveyard), he has been very successful at IUP and he recruits the same areas,Westeren Penna, N.E. Ohio etc as the MAC schools...lets get someone in here with head coaching experience..
  23. thank all of you are are NOT drinking the 'new stadium will fix everything' kool aid..the athletic dept got a bunch of money which looks good to Louie P. and his boys...those types loike to go to conferences, retreats, outings etc and talk about the new stadium, all the money the AD is sitting on etc etc..watch and see if after the new stadium goes in if Rhoades and Brookhart don't make a quick exit...that is if JD lasts 2 more years... we are being PIMPED...
