All jokes aside, I think many of us know everything that CAN be counted towards your attendance number. What amazes me is that we can find ways to account for roughly an additional 15,000 "ticket sales". Maybe an idea would be to put that same effort into actually Selling Tickets ?

Please tell me you didn't predict the "downward slope" of our football program from your own analysis of one particular group of high school kids. I think we all see events over time that lead us to believe that we might be on our way up, or on our way down. I'd bet that many of them are an overreaction in both directions.

This isn't rocket science everyone. We were going to have much more difficulty blocking Iowa State than we did against UAPB And, Iowa State has guys that can tackle much better than UAPB. That's the end of the analysis. Running the football in Week 2 vs. Week 3 was going to be incredibly more difficult., no matter what anyone thinks about how Iowa State planned to stop our offense. You have to make a lot of big plays to win games like this, and I think we only had ONE. There were 3 Iowa State fumbles laying on the ground in the first half, and we got NONE of them. Our only fumble resulted in a turnover. That's the way it goes. A lot of things need to work in your favor in a game like this. But if I were to point out one critical play: You can't have an OL jump early on a 4th down play in ISU territory in the 3rd quarter when you are only down 6 points. Not giving ourselves a chance to convert at that moment essentially ended our last chance to win the ball game.

I need to go look at the replay. My recollection is that he went up over the top of him. If he hit his head, he hit it with his body. I'll see if I remembered correctly. After the "horsecollar" call, I remember the player going back to the sideline and saying that he had a hold of the guy by his shoulder as he was pulling him backwards.

That's the bad news. The good news is that Troy isn't showing themselves as the big point scoring machine of the past in their first 3 games.

Some good points here. I sure hope it's not time to turn the page, but it was pretty unanimous at our after-game tailgate that people have really given up on any future with this staff. Milwee seemed to get the brunt of it. And the "Bowden aura" is long gone. The perception that they're building teams from year-to-year instead of "building a program" keeps coming up. So does projections about this team maybe winning no more than 4 games. And the fact that Bowden has only beaten one team with a winning record returned to the surface. Even though it bums me out, I have to admit that we failed miserably in our first real "measuring stick game" of the season. We got embarrassed at home by a team that will probably finish somewhere near the bottom of the Big 12. And watching things unravel the way they did during the 2nd half of that game certainly has to make some people believe that a change is imminent.

I wouldn't know. But if that's the case, I guess we have enough data to demonstrate that "giving away" tickets doesn't get people to line up at the doors of Rhodes Arena. We're even cheating ourselves by giving a lot of nice discounts to the people who would already buy GA season tickets anyway.

Can you even get into a high school game for $4 ??? That's a crazy number. Well, I guess this is another test to see if anyone beyond the normal 3,000 Akronites have any interest at all in Zips basketball. It's always been my opinion that they just don't give a damn. I don't think it has a lot to do with price. People will pay if they really want to be there. Cheapening the value of your product to this extent can easily backfire.

I believe some do. If you look hard enough, you'll even find a couple of posts defending such claims. Hilarious.

This conversation is making me laugh, and bringing back sick memories of this f-ed up saga........all at the same time !!!!

Throughout the last couple of decades, this is probably the first thing that Revere Grads will point out when you discover that they went to Revere around that time.
-
Yes, that one is beyond my understanding as well. For what purpose would they have to put together a "schedule" for ESPN3 broadcasts? Are they thinking that people will watch all of them if they are spread far enough apart?
-
I guess that depends on how well you think your marriage is going.
-
Well, it seems that TV Revenue is at least more important than game attendance. I sure hope they aren't thinking that "TV Exposure" is more important. I'd challenge the MAC Conference brain trust to convince me that anyone goes to ESPN3 to pull an internet feed of a MAC game, unless they are already a fan of a particular MAC team who's game is available that day. And the ESPN3 games make up the overwhelming majority of the MAC games that are "broadcasted" by ESPN.

You are correct. This is the first real "measuring stick" for where we stand. I'd like to compare this to what we were thinking heading into the App State game at home last year. We opened with a demolition of a I-AA and a blowout loss to a Major last year too. But unlike this year, we had a 3rd game against Marshall before our high-profile home game, and that performance certainly had us feeling much more confident than I think most of us will feel heading into this game.
-
Wow. I'm surprised that it's single digits. Obviously ISU isn't getting credited with being "for real" after their performance last weekend.

In these kinds of games, the only things you can really accurately assess are your OWN deficiencies. Any successes can too easily be attributed to your opponent not being able to physically make plays, compared to all future opponents. So a couple of things stood out for me. 1) The missed executions in the passing game, whether it was on Tommy or the Receivers. 2) On defense, I felt like when we were straight-up one-on-one, OL vs. DL in pass rush situations, they blocked us too successfully.
-
The solutions will be.... 5 OL with 3 WR and 2 RB and 5 OL with 4 WR and 1 RB
-
I'm fine with that, if it means 10 carries....about 100 yards. Then put him on the bench So have a couple of other RBs, who have been here even longer, and likely won't be as valuable to us in November as Ball will be. I'd rather we try to use him for 15-20 carries because the passing game is failing us in a game that really matters, rather than for a stat-padding showcase against a bad I-AA team.
-
Because they love the Zips and want to support their local D-I football program? Or, because it was paid for? If it's the first one, it's something to get excited about, and we need to give them some sort of recognition and patronize their station.

I agree. To those who don't know that this is the start of a team parade to the Fieldhouse, this would mean absolutely nothing. And if a diehard like you doesn't know that, who would?? I also wonder if this Exchange St. drop off is only for one game because they expect a lot of people to be over there watching the bands? All of last year, they emptied the team bus at the back garage door entrance of the Fieldhouse (when they decided to hold all festivities indoors). Before that, it was at the SE Corner of the Fieldhouse and they walked down Vine St.

I know they had a big 23-10 victory at home last week against the notorious Morehouse College Maroon Tigers. Since we all know plenty about the Maroon Tigers, that should be a good indicator of what to expect this week.

Warren Ball had 18 carries in the game against VMI last year. I hope I don't see him carry the ball half that much in this game. Let Van carry the load on the ground, and work on getting Tommy the work with the receivers to get our best options for our personnel in the passing game figured out. This game should serve as an "extended training camp" to help us decide how we're going to approach the 10 remaining games.

I get it. I argue the same point all the time when it pertains to basketball. But G5 football schools don't have 95% of their other games still remaining to absorb the losses. One might also be able to argue that basketball parity from #1 to #100 is a different story than football is when comparing #1 to #100.
