  1. Alright. Glad someone got what I meant. But I still hope it's great for soccer.
  2. Guys, Thanks for the additional info. on SIUE. That helps. Ok, maybe not. But in general, nobody knows that this school even exists. And I was comparing the overall impact on our visibility as a college athletics entity to the previous acquisition of WVU. In that context, I would have been much more excited if it was a "big" school.
  3. Beyond maybe having another competitive team (I have no idea how good they are) in our conference in soccer, please help me out here on the "good news for the MAC" part. I see long distance away. I see completely unknown school. WVU got me a little excited because they have some notoriety. This one just made me say, "Who?"
  4. And Liberty University was actually put on the map by old "Riverboat Sam", of former Browns/NFL fame. It's funny to also see that Ex-Buffalo Football turnaround artist Turner Gill is now their head football coach.
  5. I remember a time several years ago. Maybe it was back in the 90's. Kent was HORRIBLE and barely could win a game every year, but they had the most players in the NFL. I sure wish that Volume of NFL Talent On Roster = Best Program in the MAC. But I know it doesn't work that way. But still, thanks for sharing. It's definitely a little fact that we can brag about for awhile.
  6. Before this gets too far off the rails, that's all that needs to be said regarding the subject here: Mr. Lands.
  7. It looks like a couple of people are failing to put this Akron/DePaul comparison in perspective. Remove 14 MAC games from our conference schedule next year, and replace them with home/away games with the 7 schools that all were picked to be in the NCAA tournament, and tell me where Akron comes out at the conclusion of those 14 games? This is really funny that it's coming from you. Over the last 5 years or so on this forum, every time someone mocks the downward slide of OSWho basketball, one of you honks always chimes in immediately citing "great tradition" or "rich history", and pointing out distant successes, including their last title in 1958. But apparently DePaul doesn't get equal acknowledgement for the same? Hmm. I wonder why? And maybe just a technicality here, but DePaul has had 13 NCAA tournament appearances since the 70's (vs. 4 for Akron), and they were actually the #1 seed in their region 3 times since the 70's as well. So NO, you don't need to go back to the 70's to find good DePaul basketball. As Kreed pointed out, I sure wish Akron Basketball "sucked" like that. Please, just think about what you said above about DePaul the next time you decide to defend OSWho Basketball's "History of Success".
  8. Don't feel bad. There's plenty of people who live right here in Akron, and are football fans, and don't know that Akron has a D-1 football program.
  9. Makes sense. The #2 conference in the country last year, which sent 7 teams to the NCAA tournament. You're thinking that he might go to a MAC school if this was not a factor?
  10. I guess I'd have to ask myself why a guy who played plenty (and started) in his freshman and sophomore years at a Big 10 school, and scored around the double-digit mark, would even remotely be considering transferring DOWN to a MAC school? Another gauge we could get is to look at the other guys who have transferred from Illinois, and their commits that have been released, and note that none of them are coming to Akron. I never heard of any of them that even wanted to consider it? He's a really good player who played on a crappy team his first two years, doesn't see it improving anytime soon, and wants to BETTER his situation. I'll put odds on this one at about .0021 percent.
  11. We'll see how it turns out for Canton. But, I can say that you certainly have an advantage when you are investing into something that's already been a proven major tourist attraction.
  12. Having most of the people in the JAR on any given game night playing on their phones kills atmosphere too But you're right. The ultimate answer goes far deeper than just building a larger arena. As much as I was excited at that time with everything that was happening, the Carrier Dome type facility was probably too ambitious. But you do wonder if capitalizing on all of the basketball/football events of the time could have gotten us over that hump that we're still trying to get over today, in terms of drawing in the outside fringe of potential Akron fans.
  13. You'd be surprised if you had talked to some University officials around that time, and were told just how close the final construction costs were to even something as ambitious as an actual indoor football stadium. You could be right on that. I wasn't addressing how great it would be. Just that there was an opportunity to combine uses. Could it be any different than how much everyone complains about the JAR? I guess we can at least find comfort in the idea that it would have been larger.
  14. I made a post in this thread back on April 23rd, when this new Canton complex was first announced. It said that the basketball arena was going to be configured inside a 100 yard indoor football complex. So, it made me think about exactly what you state above. But beyond that I wondered..... 1) Could we have been more futuristic in our thinking, and build our Stiles Fieldhouse with that flexibility?? 2) It made me think back to the mid-80's when we threw around the idea of a Syracuse Carrier Dome type facility here in Akron, which would have solved the aging Rubber Bowl problem, and the desire for a larger basketball arena, simultaneously. It seems like we are always missing the boat.
  15. No clue. A response from someone who's never played or coached?
  16. I'll agree with this 100% if you change "have been" to "almost always are". And they aren't "wrong" because of an inadvertent error or mistake. The players who are looking to be recruited do it. And coaches at the college level looking for any psychological advantage do it every single season. If any of them don't, they are simply disregarding an advantage that nobody will ever be able to disprove.
  17. That's good for over-the-top humor. But I hope it's not scoffing at the reality of how badly "listed heights" are often exaggerated. I've been there.
  18. Yes, Maybe he will grow another inch or two. But the mistake would be if you assume that he's actually presently 6' tall.
  19. At the very least, its another body in a spot where everyone seemed to think we needed another one. You never know who's going to perform, so at least it would be another option.
  20. I would have used it several times now, if we had it. #blessed
  21. Well, we have a new one.... University of Akron University But most importantly, he's Blessed !!
  22. I might be a little concerned that you might be in the middle of the day. But, I think I'd like to hire you to write some advertising jingles for my company anyway.
  23. As far as the name is concerned, narrowing it down to its impact on Football might make it sound a little trivial. But its very important to the consistency of the branding, identity, and perception of the University as a whole.
  24. LOL. But again, at least he's Blessed. That's always a good thing !!
