Yep. That's what makes it really, really tough. You give up everything else to be on National TV.......and that National TV ends up being an ESPN3 broadcast.
-
Well, I hope if he gets here, he understands that we're the ZipS and we're not Akron U. But it's sure comforting to know that all of these young men are BLESSED
-
That's the very first thing I noticed when I pulled up the link. Someone in production probably put it up that way, but it does look bad when a graphic says "Akron University" on Dunn's show.
-
Yep. It should. But it makes it much tougher to get the equalizer when Kent gets that game in early October on a Saturday, and we get it the following year in late November on a Tuesday.

There is "more to the story" indeed.
-
Ok, I see that you may have wanted to laugh about the guy eating a little "humble pie", for now. He may have indeed been spouting a little too much. But no way to tell where this goes. As I've talked about many times on here, I was at a JUCO with a guy who was the classic late bloomer, and ended up going major his last 2 years, and played for many years in the NBA. As mentioned earlier, he might not be going to UCLA, but he might be better than anyone expected. Or, we might never hear about him again. You never know.

It's called whatever "Paying for 6 games when it's only feasible to make it to 3 of them" means. And add an ITIS at the end. If it works in your situation, then Congratulations !! I'll stick with my mental illness of being tired of throwing money away.

I'll say this......It's getting harder and harder to keep buying season tickets because of this scheduling. I've NEVER even considered the idea of not buying the entire season. But, I'm doing that now. I never thought I'd get to that point. But, it wears on you after putting up with the inconveniences of trying to make it to these unusual game times for so long.

That's nearly exactly what Sullivan did a couple of years ago. It worked out well for him. He played a year at Lakeland, scored 20 ppg, and then got his scholarship to a 4 yr. school and earned all-conference honors by the time he reached his Sr. year. I don't understand why someone was laughing about this route either. And let me add this, since were on the subject of "sub par recruiting". Dambrot nabbed Sullivan as a 2nd Team All-Ohio player in D-I , and he was even 3rd Team All-Ohio in Division 1 as a Junior. Again, just another reason why fans shouldn't base recruiting success on the accolades that someone had in High School. Everything can change at the next level. That's why we've had so many players do well here that didn't come in with high accolades. That's why asst. coaches are payed to evaluate players themselves, and don't recruit based on the number of high school honors awarded.

By chance, are you and OGZIPS obtaining your info. about Zips Basketball from the same source?
-
Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.

4 MAC Championships 3 MAC Tournament Championships Besides not knowing some of the most obvious recent accomplishments concerning Zips Basketball, I'm assuming you've never been in Rhodes Arena on a Tuesday night when Northern Illinois is in town? Don't worry, the reality of sub-3,000 crowds will soon sink in. I have no idea where you were led to believe otherwise.

If by "already set", you mean having 2 guys that haven't played a minute in an Akron uniform, one is still in high school, and one hasn't played in two years.... . .......then YES, we're Already Set.
-
You got it. We need players who can help us win basketball games. In that context, Noah would be a no-brainer. I sure hope nobody's hurt feelings would get in the way of that happening, if there's still a chance.

Some of us have cited this before, along with the charts that show fan loyalty. The Cincinnati Bearcats, in particular, have a favorable position in their area. And the merchandise, radio ads, etc., that have created that anti-OSU culture has really helped their cause. I'd love for us to model that mentality, but we have some other challenges that they don't have. Like the level of competition we play. The one glaring difference in NE Ohio vs. SW Ohio is that there's more Suckeye alums in Cleveland than there is in any city besides Columbus. That's yet another challenge that makes our situation a bit more difficult.
-
Yes, that would be something that could significantly impact attendance.
-
That IS the difference between Akron's attendance, and Dayton's attendance. No doubt. But until I saw the numbers, I wouldn't have guessed that they outdraw us by 3 to 4 TIMES as many. Well, there's a new theory about a solution to Akron's basketball attendance woes. We just need to "win in a more exciting fashion". I'll add that to the list. That's worth a 50% jump in average attendance, according to your numbers?

That's what you see and think when you look at him. Which is why I was surprised when Kreed pointed out earlier that he took more than half of his shots from beyond 3-point range at Oregon State. -

So is speculating that they don't. You might want to read that again. I cited possible outcomes on both ends of the spectrum. Not little in stature. Little in talent. Thank you. -

Oh yeah. The guy who wasn't pleased with the level of his D-1 offers coming out of high school? Looks like he got knocked down a few rungs to a little bit of reality over the last couple of years. We'll see how that same situation shakes out with a couple of supposed former "stars" who landed on our roster. Do they eat the humble pie and work even harder to prove themselves? Or, do they become the spoiled children who will always believe they are too good to be here? I'm more interested in seeing someone emerge because they worked their butt off to become something that nobody ever expected. Who might the next one be? Those are the stories that impress me. -

Sounds like a gracious kid. Can never have enough of those. Edit: Doesn't appear like he's been hitting the burger joints with Barkley. -

Well, based on the fact that he only averaged 2 assists per game, you're probably right that we might see more one-on-one play, and less passing from this guy. We'll see. And I did notice that he's 210 lbs. At least that's what he was listed at previously. Was that 2 years ago? Has it changed? There can definitely be pluses and minuses to playing b-ball at that height/weight. Could that have been a factor in his reduced minutes between his So. and Jr. year? I just hope he hasn't gone on the Charles Barkley diet during that extended layoff. -
Ohhhhh !! That was bad. Actually, I still laugh when I think of that poster created when Terry got here, where it shows him holding out a football......and someone did some art to make it look like a big burger. Does anyone still have that? It's a classic.

In that scenario, Kyrie would take over 80% of our FG attempts himself, and the PG position on our team would become obsolete. Read it again and you'll see that I was specifically referring to the additional challenge of being a floor general on a team for one year, vs. coming in for one year at another position on the floor. -

You made me laugh. But on a serious note, this sentence above from your post is Spot On with what I am thinking right now. Anything more would be a bonus. Good point. That's one I didn't mention. Kreed brought up a couple of others. Agreed. Same here. Thanks for all the replies, Guys. As I've already stated, I see some good potential in a couple of the guys from this recruiting class to be significant contributors someday. I don't get that same feeling here, from what I've seen. Playing as a PG who will be with the team for only a short time will make it every challenging to develop any synergy with his teammates. Hope he surprises me.
