  1. Hey, they are bigger and better than us; but still it being 0-0 after 20 minutes is an accomplishment.
  2. Indians06 nailed right on the head................... You ask an average person about Tressel and YSU or Taylor and Akron...And I guarentee you: More people would associate YSU and Tressel. Tressel has won 5 titles, all on national tv, every damn time OSU is on tv, they bring up Youngstown State; they don't for Taylor now do they. Honestly, as a person who really doesn't even watch the NFL like myself, the main reason I found about Taylor was one time in the offseason watching NFL Primetime on ESPN when they brought it up that he played for the Zips.Tressel and Youngstown will live forever!
  3. Youngstown Mooney LB Taylor Hill, who is rated as the No. 21 prospect amongst Ohio's top 100 senior prospects, has narrowed his college decision down to three schools. In this special from James Hale of OUInsider.com, Hill discusses his favorite schools.
  4. The team's record as of late has been much better- even last year's dissapointing season was better than when I was growing up in the 80's/90's. You seem to keep ignoring the one thing that many of us are saying- PEOPLE DON'T COME TO THE RUBBER BOWL BECAUSE OF IT'S LOCATION. With a more centralized location in a better facility, people WILL come. Especially with 7-11K living within walking distance. Look at what new facilities did for the Aeros and Cavs, for one. Name a new facility built in the last few years where this has happened. The thing is you guys are expecting every single one of these people living in that area to come to the game, which isn't true. YSU used to play in Austintown, OHIO at the 10,000 seat Fitch Falcon Stadium; and when they moved to Stambaugh in '81 did everyone of those people in that neighborhood come to the game??? No..Do you think Montana gets 24000 each week because they have a nice stadium??? NO--It's because they have made the I-AA/FCS playoffs for 15 consecutive years!Winning will sell your place out; and thats the bottom line cuz eguin said so... JK.Good Luck!
  5. 25,000 or less will show up for this game sorry. Like I said, you need your average fan base of 17000 at this game, as well as 8000 more Army fans in NE-Ohio; and I just don't see it on Labor Day.I'd love to see you guys get 35-40k at this game, but I just don't see it happening.
  6. 30-35K is better. 50K is overreaching, at least for now.Our football attendance sucks for the following reasons-1. The overall decrepitness of our stadium2. Distance off campus3. Location in a sparsly populated part of Summit county. 4. Not on any main drags5. hard to get to.6. A lack of community visibility because of all these reasons and a piss-poor record (until 2002 or so)Our metro population is 700,000. Our city population is 210,000. Our student population is 23,000. 2,000+ live on campus and another 7-10K live within walking distance. The stadium will be visible off Route 8, and is on a major throughfare, and is ON CAMPUS. This new stadium will bring 30-35,000 easy.It also looks like it could be expanded later, which would make a lot more sense. Unless this Rubber Bowl is in a bad part of town, I don't see really anymore than 3,000 more people at your games. That is saying 2000 students go to the game, and for whatever reason 1000 more fans come to just check out the new facility.BOTTOM LINE: You need to win to fill this stadium, you can't just build it and expect more people to come. If YSU was 2-9 every year and they built a new season, I wouldn't go out and buy season tickets; but they are consistently strong year in and year out in a beautiful 21,000 seat stadium and average 8000 season ticket holders a year.I am not trying to be an ass here either, I am pointing out something I think a lot of you are missing; winning teams brings the big crowds in, a new stadium helps for the first few weeks.
  7. Agreed. He has done a horrible job in office, but it doesn't help when Akron, or Youngstown for that matter, has anyone who can beat him!
  8. I forgot Timmy boy is your congressmen as well. You guys better start getting ready for the TRAFICANT signs popping up over there in Akron; he will be victorious again--if he runs!
  9. I never voted for Traficant ever, but if when he gets out, and if he runs, I guarentee you that he will be victorious again.
  10. Although I am not a OSU fan, Tressel is the man! I appreciate all he does for YSU, and esp. this $1 million for the new WATTS Center!
  11. He won't turn down Oklahoma or LSU for AKRON. He may like your facility, your indoor one that is-----but the Rubber Bowl is a different story. Contract Gary Housteau at BuckNuts.com and ask him; he'll tell you how it is all going down.Justin Brown-Ursuline-TE is a Youngstowner you can watch.McCarthey is going to Notre Dame. My BAD!
  12. I never voted for that man, but boy he should never have gotten the # of years he has in prison.Do you really think he deserves 8 years! It's crazy! He is the reason we have a new 6000 seat Chevy Centre Downtown, he is the reason we have all these new bridges getting redone in Youngstown, he is the reason we have a new terminal at the airport, he is the reason we have the brand new 711 connector freeway connecting Youngstown to I-80 and Rt. 11.These Mooney kids will not be going to Akron or any MAC school; but keep your eyes on a kid by the name of Justin Brown over at Mooney's rival Ursuline. I heard he may have an offer from Akron. He is a big TE and his brother was a star at YSU.
  13. sorry but your facts are wrong. beachum is not rated as the best linebacker in the nation by any publications. Rivals has him listed as a RB (4 star) scout has him listed as a RB also ( 3 star)neither Rivals.com or scout.com have OKL. as a school that has offered beachum, but they have offered Hill and mccarthy.Oh and you say that not many big schools have offered mcarthy...LSU, Michigan, ND, OSU, OKlahoma, Stanford, Penn State, Boston College and UCLA have all offered him Listen buddy. I live in Youngstown, I watch the Youngstown sports shows, I know whats up. I may have graduated from the rival Ursuline High School; but I got my connections.Zordich is going to Penn St.McCarthy is going to Mooney.----------------------------------Beachum, in the publications at Barnes and Nobles, ranks him #1 LB recruit in America. He is going to Oklahoma or LSU; he has 26 D1 Offers.Taylor Hill will go to OU or LSU too.
  14. You have no chance of this guy, he is going to Notre Dame with his brother Kyle. If you read BuckNuts, you would know this info.... And he may have you on the last 5 list, just because he hasn't received many offers from real big schools with the exception of ND and OSU.You have no chance at Taylor Hill either, he is likely going to be heading to LSU or OKLAHOMA with his fellow teammate Brandon Beachum, who is rated the #1 Linebacker in the USA.
  15. O I forgot to add, the 2 tiered side is already in existence. So that is $37.5 million for pretty much half a stadium and new press on the existing side!
  16. Western Kentucky, which is moving up to I-A and the Sun Belt this season, is expanding their stadium to over 23,000 with room for expansion in their endzones. The current complex seats 17,500; and this new addition will make the stadium a good size for I-A.Check it out!
  17. Care to share to the board why you believe your football attendance will increase when it has been stuck at 16,000 for years now??? And we all know you never get 16,000 people at a game, so really less than that for years?25,000 is plenty for you guys... PLENTY!
  18. Ironically this looks like the same picture of U-Chattanooga's Finley Stadium as well as that supposed "glorified high school stadium design" which you Zip Fans had brought up.I think it looks nice, but I'm sorry its not up to the standards of such a perennial I-A program which averages 16,000 people a year.
  19. That's fine. It's funny that YSU is your topic of conversation on here.BTW:its guinzone.comor ysupenguins.comThe latter looks like shit and has some idiots on there, therefore I recommend site 1.
  20. First off Go Indians! And second off, thank you for seeing the light and telling it how it is.Do I think YSU will beat Akron and Can't if we go to play there? NO... But we sure as hell can upset you guys, that is if you call that an upset.YSU is well known throughout America; as is Georgia Southern and Appalachian State. Last year YSU was on ESPN-HD and ESPN2-HD Primetime in the same year in the FCS Playoffs! Can you or Can't say that? I don't think so.Bottom line is we are winning in the I-AA Ranks, and we probably could win in the I-A Ranks too if we moved up; but right now we are fine with out position. Many of our fans want to move up, but right now our monies are dedicated to other projects around campus, such as a brand new business college in our downtown and a brand new indoor sports practice facility across the street from Stambaugh. All of our TV networks talk abotu YSU every night of the week, as do our newspapers, and we are on the 2nd strongest AM Signal across Northern Ohio.Hell on September 1st; tune to 570 WKBN at noon and you will hear the crisp and clear sound of Youngstown State football on the radio. I have tried to listen to Zips football here in Youngstown, and I can't! Well now you can hear what we are talking about and how strong the local support is for this team.
  21. Then prove it on the field. We'll pay you $125,000 to do so. Hell...it is probably up to $175,000 by now. Like I said earlier, 2009 is our only open season w/o a I-A school as of now. I think we will enjoy our paychecks of $650,000 the next 2 years vs. Ohio State and $350,000 in 2010 when we go to Penn St. If we can't get any good offer like these 2, then I'm sure we will schedule you!
  22. Only one ranking system compares all I-A and I-AA Schools; and that is the Sagarin Computer Rankings.Let's see here:#53 Appalachian State#71 Youngstown State#90 New Hampshire [bEAT Northwestern]#101 Southern Illinois [bEAT Indiana]#105 AKRONThere are a total of 12 I-AA Schools with a higher Sagarin ranking than Akron, and a total of 17 higher than Can't State. EVEN Central Michigan, the MAC Champs are less than the best in I-AA; Appy St.Yes this may not be the best judge of how teams would play on the field, but it does place schedule strenght heavily in the formula. And I find it funny that YSU is 120 in schedule strength to Akron's 104 and Can't's 119.READ MORE HERE:http://www.kiva.net/~jsagarin/sports/cfsend.htmI-AA are getting better each year, and that shows in the # of wins vs. I-A schools last year, including 2 vs. Big Ten schools. Two years ago Akron would've killed YSU and last year, Can't probably would've taken it to YSU early on in the season; but consistently over the last 10-15 years; our level of competition is pretty darn even on the field.
  23. Who the heck cares who the division I-AA champion is? Who even won it last year?Appalachian State has won it back to back years, and they will probably win it for a 3rd straight year coming up. They may have lost to NC-State last year early in the season, but because they started their backup QB and Running Backs; which never played again after that game.Remember the names Armanti Edwards and Kevin Richardson. They are the most talented players in I-AA and you will see them on ESPN quite a bit in the upcoming season. I'd go out on a limb and say Appy St. would finish in the top 3 in the MAC; they were that good. And I say that because I have seen Championship I-AA teams play before and I have seen the MAC play before, and Appalachian St. is the best I-AA program I have ever seen---EVER.O yah may I add that their stadium only seats 16,500; but they averaged a I-AA Best 25,000 people at their games last year!Similar design to Stambaugh; but they have a big ass hill which seats over 10,000; they are getting a brand new 3 story press box in the upcoming months as well.
  24. Yes, it looks like the drawings...but they were only conceptual...not a proposed design...I hope. Thanks for the verification.
