When I stated BCS Opponents I meant I-A/FBS opponents!! See I am all confused with the new designations with the divisions now. BCS=I-A=FBS while I-AA=FCS.Anyways I mean in 2009 we have a game scheduled with a I-A team, not in the BIG TEN, and the school is well known to the fans in Youngstown.I'm hoping it's the Zips so we can continue to hold onto that crummy old rusty Steel Tire! Go Penguins!
-
I really doubt that with the way Mack is scheduling. Alot of teams owe us return visits (Indiana, UConn, NC State[?], etc.) Heck we might have our 2009 schedule set before we have our 2008 schedule ready. They may earn you return visits, but my money is that they will back out of coming to Akron and play and pay you guys a larger sum of dough to do just that. Can't was lucky when they got the Gophers last year, but I just do not see that happening again. There is a reason you guys have like 4 home games this year.Would love to see this game happen!!!! If you throw this years team out on the field vs. each other, it would be a fabulous game!

Our BCS Opponent in 2009 is NOT a Big Ten School and is will be very familiar to the folks of the Mahoning Valley according to our AD Ron Strollo. I know Akron has offered the Guins $150,000 for games in the past, but were turned down since we were getting $650k to play at the Shoe this and next year, but with no BCS opponent for 2009, we may have to resort to getting the smaller paycheck.YSU @ Akron at Infocision Field.Sounds Awesome!GuinZone.com

Frye and the Browns are Pathetic. Bottom Line. No if's, and's, or but's about it. Frye was trash and Anderson was trash. Romeo Crennel sucks. Just throw out the best QB of the 3, Brady Quinn.Damn I hate the Browns but I still would never want to see them lose because of dumb ass decisions by their coach.Quinn for week 2.

It is more than just a game, it's a rivalry. Back in the 90s; even when you were in the MAC, we played home and home deals, and that is how we want it today. We already get more fans at our games then you, and quite frankly more Ohio State fans would argue that YSU is a better team than Akron. Now I know that you guys are not allowed by MAC rules to come to a I-AA and play, so now it comes down to dollars. YSU got $350k to play Penn St. last year, and $1.5 million to play Ohio State over this and next year... You guys offered us $150k. If we can find a better offer during a BYE week, guess what, we aren't going to schedule you; it's as simple as that. Two football rich towns like Youngstown and Akron should always play each other every year, hell look at our HS teams. Although Youngstown's HS team's have your number each and every year, they are quality games in the best area for HS football in the USA! BTW:YOU DID NOT STUFF THAT OSU OFFENSE TODAY, THE OSU OFFENSE STUFFED THEMSELVES. THEY WERE THE ONES TO TURN THE BALL OVER 5 TIMES YESTERDAY, NOT YOU STOPPING THEM. YSU actually had over 170 yards of offense against OSU and we actually scored on them and had 11 first downs, more than you guys can say!

Northern Illinois blew a 31-14 4th quarter lead as I-AA Southern Illinois defeated NIU by a final score of 34-14. SIU is a member of the Gateway Conf, which YSU is a member of.Guys... LOOK UP, You may have lost to OSU, but you guys got some athletes to get you some wins!

Army 20Zips 18I'm not just saying that to say that, I think finally Army may begin to turn it's program around; and in a Patriotic game as such, I think this would be the perfect way to do it.

K.e.n.t. Declines 2008 Patriot Bowl
eguins replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Well they were in deep talks about a game at Browns Stadium in 2008... Sorry that I am wrong about it being the PATRIOT BOWL.My Bad! -
Not sure if this show is new or not; but its a good idea. YSU Started it I think 3 seasons ago and its a big success with a lot of calls. Good Luck with the show!!Can I pick up the signal here in Youngstown??? If not, you could listen to our's on 570 WKBN; it will sound crystal clear in Akron!

K.e.n.t. Declines 2008 Patriot Bowl
eguins replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
For everyone's info.. YSU was considered for a game vs. Ohio State at Browns Stadium next year; and I do believe it was going to be the Patriot Bowl. That is no lie, my source with YSU can attest to it; but it all fell through. YSU-OSU will be at the 'Shoe next year. I do believe BG will be in the game. -

Why not try Youngstown State for the Patriot Bowl??? We'd probably get the most fans out of the 3!!!!LOL And before you flip on me, I am just kidding!!! -
Zips offers who recently signed elsewhere...
eguins replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Not to be a jerk, but none of these guys have signed anywhere. They have "verbaled" to those schools. They can't sign until February. Many, many players verbal to a school and then change their mind. It happens quite often, even at the big schools.A lot can happen between now and NLOID. That may be true, but they certainly won't fall all the way down to any MAC school; that would be the dumbest decision they could ever make.I mean it's the truth, no disrespect to the MAC, it's just the way it is! -
Nobody can see any profiles anymore, I think. I know I can't. O Okay, then it isn't just me then!THANKS
-
Yes, all Zips fans should be proud of this facility, once built! First class for sure. Now, can the admin unban me from seeing other member profiles, as well as viewing other pages on this forum.thanks!

We may have a preseason rank of 3rd in the Gateway, the best in I-AA, but we are still ranked 4th in the entire nation in I-AA...... I understand exactly what you are saying though.Preseason ranks:2005: 6thFinished 1st2006: 2ndFinished 1stHope to see you win the MAC This year, as long as it's not Can't and someone from Ohio I am happy! Go Penguins and GO ZIPS!

SEC schools and Big10 Schools coming to a 27,000 seat stadium? Maybe Indiana and some bad SEC program, but that is it.YSU is a guaranteed sell and if Akron fans came out, it would sell out. There has got to be a reason we were Can't's #1 attended game back when we used to play them. What I do think you will see a lot more now is Akron on ESPN and ESPN2 during the season. A new stadium is good for TV, especially with fans in the seats, and Akron will have the newest facility in college football!
-
Hopefully that other team is Youngstown State. Although $150k is a small paycheck in comparison to Ohio States $1.3 million over 2 years and Penn State's $350k for last year and the 2010 season.
-
We're not even thinking about outdoing YSU. We don't care about YSU. We're looking to outdo the entire MAC Conference and most of the Big East! That stadium looks to be about 25,000 seats. The big side probably seats about 15,000; the smaller side around 10,000.You outdid Can't here, and most of the MAC, but I don't think you are anywhere near outdoing the entire MAC and Big East. But I emailed that rendering to the people I work with, and already 5 of em said it's a bigger and nicer version of Stambaugh, and considering we are Top 3 in the I-AA for stadiums: THAT IS GREAT TO HEAR!Congratulations!
-
What happened to you guys all being pissed off if it wasn't a bowl! JUST KIDDINGI told you guys 2 sided stadiums can look nice. And honest to God: that looks like the big side of Stambaugh with a much larger east stands, or whatever direction it is for you guys! You will outdo YSU here!

Listen, your city is THREE Times Larger than Youngstown, with a much larger MSA Population than Youngstown. Your University has 10,000 more students than YSU. What do we compete with in the fall, not much. High School Football Dominates Friday Night, College on Saturday's, and NFL on Sundays. You can say you compete with the Aeros and say they sell out every night. Sure???? First off, not one of their home games and your home's even interfere on the same day this year!http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...t=l_att&lid=113The place seats over 9000, they are averaging 5,130 in 2007. I will give it you compete with more in your city and more in Cleveland than us; but I think your guy's main problem with the attendance is playing on Thursday Nights, opposed to Saturday Nights! If you guys can get a winning team in there and play all your home games on saturday's, I bet you could get near sell out's every game when the new stadium comes!
-
You guys only have 4000 season ticket holders? Ouch. YSU is towards 8k, but your number should rise with the new stadium!!!!Congrats on the news though!

I just had probably the craziest of sources from Youngstown tell me that he might choose Stanford. If this is true, I will tell you the back story. I had no idea that Jim Harbaugh is the coach there now. Stanford is his #3 mainly for the academics; but all signs are pointing towards Notre Dame. He grew up an ND fan, his family is ND fans, and his brother plays at ND; so expect that. I don't think OSU has any shot at him though.
