  1. I was at the Convo in Athens when Andy Hipsher taunted fans by grabbing his crotch...same game Gandma Hipsher was kicked out if the arena for her foul language. So UA isn't lilly white here.
  2. OU had 8,000 for the last home game, which was a Saturday. I'd expect 6-7K for a Friday night matchup.
  3. UA at Akron just moved from Saturday 2/26 to Friday 2/25. Sux for those of us who wanted have fun in Athens before/after Saturday game.
  4. Despite the diligent work of the ABJ's Zips reporter, here's another one that apparently slipped through his fingers: Crain's Cleveland Business reports today that UA is investing more than $4 million in a new basketball practice facility and other facility enhancements.
  5. You are arguing against yourself. No one said the best team always wins. But I do agree that Akron has more talent than Kent. Any coach of average ability would know that the key to beating Kent is stopping (or slowing) their premier scorer. Sincere Carry is a truly premier scorer. Somehow John Groce and his brain trust were unable to come up with the right right game plan to accomplish that. The team that wins is almost always the best prepared team with the right players in the right roles, backed by the best in-game coaching. John Groce did not outcoach Senderoff "in every way." If he had, given the talent differential, Zips fans would be celebrating a win.
  6. Truly bizarre take. You clearly believe the Zips are the better team and yet they lost. So please explain how Groce outcoached Senderoff "in every way."
  7. Reporters call Kevin Stefanski "Kevin," Bill Belichick "Bill." I don't see the issue here. Looks like GT is reading this forum -- he fixed the errors at 10 pm last night.
  8. Please note the gross error in the second and third paragraphs. It was there when he posted the story last night and remains today. I know George doesn't proof his own copy -- his errors are legendary -- but shouldn't someone else on their sports desk do a cleanup after the fact? As John Knight was known to exclaim, "Who the hell edits this newspaper?!"
  9. I stayed for that whole WMU beatdown to see if it could get any worse. It did.
  10. What's the football program budget? If the athletic budget is around $37-38MM, true football expenses have to be $8MM or more.
  11. Especially if the beat reporter doesn't ask the question.
  12. A great choice for a turnaround and then exit would be Jim Grobe. He knows the region very well and is highly respected by high school coaches. He transformed a moribund Ohio program (pre Solich-era budgets and resources) by fitting an offense (triple option) to the talent at hand. His teams were extremely fun to watch. He then had success at Wake Forest. He is considered the savior of the Baylor football program. Grobe would be a strong choice for establishing a viable foundation for a younger successor.
  13. You want a coach who will be liked by Ohio high school coaches. The guy at Hoban comes with a lot of baggage related to recruiting, etc.. Bunch of HS coaches would love to get even with him. Back in the late 1970s, Akron was considering Barberton's Jack Greynolds for the BBall job that ultimately went to Bob Rupert. Greynolds had alienated so many other high school coaches that he'd have had a hard time putting five talented men on the floor.
  14. Hard to argue with that given the brand of "football" Ohio's new coach has unveiled.
  15. Bird's nest or oversize coronavirus molecule?
  16. Hasn't Rob made enough off the royalties from his laminated groin liner/play sheet?
  17. Does $10,000 sound like an awfully small amount to anyone else? How about $100K?
  18. I'm an OU grad and fan. No way he's a first round prospect. Those guys are just showing their ignorance -- likely haven't even seen him play. He's got a weird but compelling combination of skills, but that's not enough in the NBA. Not fast enough, strong enough or a good enough passer or shooter to contribute at that level IMO. I love his story and he's fun to watch, but come on.
  19. They can be as cold tomorrow as they were hot today. Remember in the MAC tourney when the Bobcats blew out WMU in the semi and hardly showed up in the final against Akron?
  20. The answer to #3 is not "very easy." If it were, it would have been resolved long ago.
  21. 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists. Not really "forgettable."
  22. Let's see how many excuses we can come up with. Ohio was without 2 starters, including their two best players. Zips just didn't come to play or show the toughness Groce expects.
  23. They have 2-3 kids who've had COVID symptoms and reportedly have not practiced.
