zippy5
How long has it taken Temple to play @ the JAR? They joined in 2005, and I don't recall ever seeing them grace our hallowed court? Thus the "UMass must play 2 MAC schools per year on the road" stipulation doesn't excite me all too much. Zeke will be in his 4th season with the Celtics before we ever see an AirTran flight dropping UMass players off on the CAK tarmac. Temple played our home opener in 07. Doug Snyder
If UMass is joining, then the MAC must be confident that Temple won't leave. I don't like the idea of North-South divisions, however. Really wouldn't change much from what I can tell. East - Akron, Buffalo, Can't, Miami, Ohio, Temple, UMass West - Ball State, BGSU, CMU, EMU, NIU, Toledo, WMU In a North South allignment it would likely be: North - NIU, WMU, CMU, EMU, Toledo, BGSU, Buffalo South - Akron, Can't, Miami, Ball State, Ohio, Temple, UMass So We would have Ball State and they would get Buffalo, Akron would then have its three rivals (Can't, Miami, and Ohio). If you look at the map, there isn't any other way to do a North South division. My understanding is that FB division reconfiguration would be done such that Temple and UMass are NOT in the same division. Having them in the same division would double the excess travel burden for the other teams in the division. Look for Temple & UMass to be in opposite divisions when it's all played out. Go Zips! I think you are correct. UMass and Temple must be in separate divisions for one other obvious reason. If they are the same divisions....then basketball and other sports would be split 7 in west and 5 in the east...unless you would reshuffle the alignment based on sport...highly unlikely. So...look for Temple to be in the south and UMass in the north.

Z.I.P.
Next time Z-guins stops by our board, it will be interesting to see how he spins this one. Yet another 1-AA program steps up to the 1-A plate, while YSU football is content to try and achieve "tallest midget" status with whomever remains at the kiddie level. But, they complain MAC programs won't come to YSU to play them? UMass just showed them how it's done...on the field, not whining on a message board. Fall trips to New England will be fun. I look forward to it. Is UMass football any good? Probably middle-of-the-pack-MAC if they began playing today. It will be sad to see them surpass the Zips after 2 seasons at the 1-A level (2012), when we've been at it for 25 years. Don't let it happen, iCoach. Well...I guess that makes Akron "the world's shortest giant". How long will that status exist before serious questions are asked?

akronzips71
UMASS is a "name" school. Probably the biggest name in the MAC. Welcome aboard, it is good news.
Zipmeister
UMASS is a "name" school. Probably the biggest name in the MAC. Welcome aboard, it is good news. They will be the biggest name in the MAC, but only because they stick Amherst at the tail end as in The University of Massachusetts Amherst. If Central or Western or Eastern or Northern stuck the city in which they are located in their name they would be the biggest name in the MAC. xu9697
Part of me hopes for the simple solution= push BG to the West, and forget abou the breaking up into 2 divisions in basketball..simple 12 team league for b-ball and most other sports. I think that Temple had 2 guys coming in averaging over 20 points / game each .. and they left the JAR having scored something like 18 between the two of them. Nate & Jimmy pretty much took them completely out of the game.
GoZips
... Fall trips to New England will be fun. I look forward to it. ... Not nearly the fun you imagine. Amherst, Mass is 90 miles from anywhere. It is about the same drive as visiting Athens, OH from Akron. Well, the Fall leaf colors are much more vivid than we see in Ohio. I am a regular visitor to Providence, RI (PVD). I made the jaunt over to Amherst for the Zips NIT game against UMASS. Long boring, corkscrew drive from Providence. Still, UMASS is a huge jump higher than YSU.
Captain Kangaroo
... Fall trips to New England will be fun. I look forward to it. ... Not nearly the fun you imagine. New England has a ton of awesome microbreweries. Tailgating will be a blast, guaranteed. And like roadies to West Point or MTSU, we'll have a realistic shot at a game-day win. I imagine the fun might ever be better than I imagined.
Zip Watcher
As someone who spent 4 years in NE (in the beauty of Storrs, which I might add is a much better place than that sesspool they've labeled "Amherst") .. I have to echo CK on this. Even though it's not a big football area .. the conditions there are generally really good for some fall tailgating. Our trip to the Mullins Center for Woody's finale in 2008 was a nice time. UMass in the conference for FB is a good thing.
GJGood
Why do the new divisions have to be based on geography? Why not realign them with overall competitive balance as well as top rivalries in mind? It doesn't pain me to see Akron in the same division with a Ball State or Northern Illinois, but we must be in the same division with that Portage County school. Zipmeister
More importantly, it is critical that we give each of the divisions a distinctive name to properly convey the importance and tradition of the MAC. It is my understanding that Leaders and Legends are already being used. Any suggestions?
Lee Adams
They will reportedly play a provisional FBS schedule in 2011 and 2012. Sounds like we might have found our FCS opponent for next year's schedule. Not for this year but next. Careful with this one. This is a pretty good FB program. Don't need anymore losses to 1-AA scholls in fball.
