72 Roo
After what I saw last season, I'd give serious consideration for starting the Lone Ranger. We know what PN7 can do. His decision-making is his greatest liability. The Lone Ranger has a greater upside and he should be given an opportunity.

I think we should wait until after a few games to see if he is still making bad decisions.
johnnyzip84
Some additional information from Gaffney. Lemming's comments are predictable, given his ND ties. Dr Z
Lemming's comments are predictable, given his ND ties. This one will stick in my mind, however it turns out, I will remember this quote: ''I think Akron is a sleeping giant. Reading a quote like this sometimes can make me want to have a stroke, but I'll hold the sharpe comments for now and try to read through it a little. It is true that it might take a couple of more years to become a juggernaut, although the definition of juggernaut is unclear. Juggernaut to me is going undefeated in the MAC and winning at least half of OOC games. We'd all take a 10 win season in a second. If it takes 2-3 more seasons to do that, then I'll be patient. With that said, what are we going to do the next 2-3 years? There will be games played and tickets to be sold. I'm not interested in buying a ticket to watch bad football for the next 2-3 years. They need to show signs of life this season. Show that they at least can perform the basic tasks of playing football. BTW, they need to win at LEAST 4 games this season. All my thoughts fall back on what I see teams do in the MAC all the time. That is quickly turning around a program after horrible results with the previous coach. There is a long list including Miamioh last season. Why do we always have to be the team in the middle of a 25 year "building process"? This quote -- "Akron is a sleeping giant," is officially 25 years old...my, how time flies! It was first uttered by Gerry Faust upon his UA hiring, and printed in Sports Illustrated. Years ago I went to an off-campus house party, and I can recall seeing that SI clipping Scotch-taped to a cupboard door in the kitchen. Rip Van Vinkle had set the previous "Gold Standard" for naps @ 20 years. UA football has set the New Gold Standard...25 years and still counting! "Defensive tackle Oren Wilson, a transfer from Michigan State, had labrum (shoulder) surgery in October and is participating in drills, but not scrimmages." Note to staff - Please keep Oren away from the health food stores.

I liked this part: Lemming said the recruiting process for UA is helped by having InfoCision Stadium and the spacious Stile practice building. ''This is unbelievable. These are definitely the best facilities in the MAC,'' said Lemming, who also provides recruiting news for the CBS Sports Network and MaxPreps.com. How bad was it torn? I think about Aaron Smith (DE with recurring shoulder injuries). Oh well, we're going to be a juggernaut sooner or later.... I think everyone has always looked at the fact that Akron is a large school in terms of enrollment, and sits right in the middle of a talent hotbed. And I think they are right to look at those factors as contributing to Akron's POTENTIAL as a football power. Unfortunately for us, it's amounted to a 25 year pattern of a couple of steps forward followed by a couple of steps back.

I had one when I played, and the way they've perfected scope procedures nowadays, this is pretty minor. It might limit his bench press numbers in the future, but shouldn't have that big of an impact on his ability to play.

His credentials really speaks to why he is a moron Im not a huge fan of his, but anytime somebody says opposite of anything this board feels about the coach, he is automatically discounted. Ive been watching the Zips for the last 5-10 years, much more observant as I get a little older, and anybody that expected the talent on this team to compete is a damn fool. This team was stocked full of zero talent. There was a handful of players left on the roster that Coach I had to work with, but outside of that....what do you people expect? It's going to take time...Im not sold on him, but Im not foolish to expect more than what is happening. The talent just isnt there. He isn't going anywhere, get used to it. All this bellyaching is just going to make life miserable for you. He will be here for atleast four-five years. Rightfully so.
GP1
There was a handful of players left on the roster that Coach I had to work with, but outside of that....what do you people expect? When and Athletic Director fires one coach and hires another, I expect the team to do better with the new coach. Coach I had something like 17 returning starters off of a team that won something like three games the year before. I expected the new coach to win more than three. I agree with you that this is often the logical expectation. But, it's also true that coaches sometimes have awful beginnings and grow powerful programs. For me, I simply observe, and trust my instincts. I distinctly remember having a bad feeling about what I was seeing at the beginning of the LO era, and I have many of those same feelings now. I just don't think this guy has what it takes.

When i call Lemming a moron, I am not referencing anything he said about Akron. My reply was just out of general frustration, you get this feeling that there are many that would love to see the football team fail just so they can say they were right about Coach I. I don't know if he has what it takes, it seems as if he is rubbing many people the wrong way, but many outside of Akron have nothing but good things to say about the guy. This is Akron. It is not a powerhouse football program, it is not even a good football program. It has no history of success and was on a downward spiral with Coach B. Im not convinced that last year was simply because of his coach or lack thereof. I am just saying I am atleast going to give the guy the opportunity to get his players and his style of play in before I judge him and write him off. It just gets tiresome reading the football forum here and the comments on Ohio.com. The only thing I am certain of is that people wanting him to go away are going to be sorely disappointed because he isn't going anywhere. Unless the AD moves on or gets fired, you can sure as hell bet he will be here for atleast his contract unless he breaks some sort of rule to get fired. Dave in Green
ZN.O is not unique. Every sports forum I've ever visited has some degree of coach hate regardless of the coach's record. Even the coaches with winning records are ripped for not winning more and winning bigger. No matter how silly that may seem to some, it's just the way sports works, so we might as well all get used to it. Some sports fans are always on the lookout for new coaches just like some men at bars are always on the lookout for new women.
