More BJ coverage of the game, this time from the OU perspective.Gotta give Solich a lot of credit. We've teased plenty about his off the field troubles, but the guy always has his team prepared. Looking at the picture in the article, you'd have to believe he could kick iCoach's a$$ with one hand tied behind his back. Come to think of it is there a MAC coach who iCoach might stand a chance against, mano a mano?

Solich is a little guy. Hard to believe has a Hall of Fame fullback at Nebraska. But he is very tough. It was reported that during a full-pads preseason scrimmage last year, there was a fumble along the sidelines and he jumped into the pile and came out with the ball, along with some cuts and bruises.

It was his apparent toughness and intensity (clearly displayed in the photograph) that inspired my comment, not his physical stature.

Lots of good news in the pregame show. Hassan Hazime was granted a medical redshirt and will be allowed to return for next season. Antoine Russell will be moved to the CB position. And here's the big one: we will be using some shotgun spread and pistol formations on offense!

I admire the toughness of Moore but man he has got to learn to hit the deck or he is gonna get killed. That long snap and loss of 27 right before the half hurt.

I like the deep throws even though they haven't connected. May as well shake things up.
What kind of fool offensive coordinator calls a deep route where the receiver is lookingback and up at a ball coming out of the sun? Grade school kids do not make that mistake.

Frenchy seems to be losing his patience with Ianello. He wasn't happy about the 3rd and 1 pass and then the 4th and 1 punt in the 3rd.

StatsDidn't see the game. Didn't have to. Thank God I didn't. The one stat that sticks out to me is we only had 18 first downs. As I look at that stat further, 5 of those first downs came from OU committing a penalty. Feature RB with less than 50 yards...terrible. The score was 3-3 and the Zips allow four unanswered scores...when they finally did score, there were only 35 seconds remaining in Q3...terrible. Less than six yards per pass attempt...terrible. We allow OU to convert 71% of third downs....terrible. We convert 27% on third down...terrible.We stink.

How'd he feel about the FG attempt, down by 20 in the 4th qtr? Love cutting the margin from 20 to 17 with 8 minutes left. Nice job Rob. Way to quit. FU and your process.

We do stink. I always enjoyed going to Akron U football games for many years and I would take my 3 boys. This is like torture because we simply cannot compete. I have gone to 4 games the last 2 years and seen 3 blowouts losses and a loss to Gardener Webb. Our defense cannot stop the pass or run. O U had over 500 yards in total offense. Our safeties are 20 yards off the line of scrimmage but when their receiver did a hitch and go they were nowhere to be found. We had almost no pressure on the quarterback and he picked us apart by scrambling when there was pressure. The coaches calls were suspect when he runs the ball twice being down 20 points and when he has 3rd and one he passes the ball and it goes incomplete. Our only cometitive touchdown was set up by a comical lateral turnover that nobody could pick up and then an Akron player took it down to the 6 yard line where we finally scored on fourth down. Our offense cannot maintain a touch down drive. Our running back did not attack the holes but seemed to go wide on almost every play till the 3rd quarter. He was ineffective the 1st half but seemed to do better the 2nd half. It is sad watching people leave after the half and during the 3rd quarter. The fans around me were disgusted by the lack of competance with this team. The kickoff returner dropped the ball twice and several times we started our drive from our own 15 or worse. Our receivers had several nice catches but their routes were not very crisp. The best catch of the day was a one handed grab by the OU receiver. After we scored to make it 23-10 I was hoping the we would try on onside kick. It was our only hope since our defense could not stop their offense. We kicked it away and they shoved the football down our throat. I finally left when they were on our one yard line and it was third and one. We used a four man front and the safeties and linebacker were 5 yards in our end zone. It was an eay score with a run right up the middle. I was done.It is difficult being an optimist but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Basketball season!

You could see the players' body language after that decision. They gave up because they saw that their coach gave up.Why kick a FG down 20 and follow it with an onside kick??? It's like the coordinators are all on different pages with each other and Ianello.

I like how Tom Gaffney begins his post-game ABJ article:"The University of Akron football team avoided a defeat last weekend by not playing. On Saturday, the schedule makers would not allow that to happen again. The Zips were forced into action and showed that a bye week could do little to change their fortunes." I do have to admit that I really like & respect the players for still fighting & not giving up. I know, I know, what are they supposed to do, right? But they still look like they're giving it all they've got. Honestly, I'm ashamed to admit as much, but that's a lot more than what I'd be giving at this point.

wasn't able to listen to the 4th, went to Boo at the Zoo instead. I'm going to replay the ESPN3 telecast to see what the announcers were saying just for the heck of it. Is there still anyone in the Znation that doesn't believe Ianello is not cut out for the head coaching job?

I am losing what little faith I had in some kind of turnaround with each second that ticks off the clock of each game. I am sorry, but Robby does not cut it as a head coach. Theres no excuse the pathetic show of football he puts on each saturday. I am a huge sports, college football, and namely Zips athletics fan... but I have lost damn near all my motivation to watch this team. Its unbearable...

When I watch the games in person I can see that our players have just as much individual talent as their opponents, for the most part. I can also see that opposing teams have a very easy time figuring out what play we're going to run and how to counter it.At the same time, our O-line is so depleted right now that we're going to have to start lining up TEs and FBs at the guard spots just to be able to put five guys in front of the QB. Both of our Centers are out, which is why our snaps went everywhere but into the QB's hands. There's not much you can do as a coach to gameplan for losing 80% of your O-line except to maybe make recruiting that for unit a priority to develop a lot of depth.

I watched Duke go 4 of 5 on fourth down conversions in the second half of their game against Wake yesterday and almost upset Wake. Some of them were even out of fieldgoal range. That's a coach who saw a game he could win and tried to win the game, not manage the game.

Great point. It DOES tell the players that you've given up. And inexperienced coaches would tend to make such mistakes. A TD was the only way to still give us a chance to win the game. I still can't imagine what he may have been thinking, other than possibly wanting to say we put a few more points on the board. But, players want to win games.

Even Steve French commented on that.

You saw it at K.e.n.t. last year: 30 seconds to go until halftime, in the red zone, with THREE time outs remaining...and he centered the ball for a field goal. The guy doesn't know what it takes to win a football game.
