Quickzips
I just got a weird feeling that Egner might get into the game tonight. Could just be gas however. Egner was never going to get in the game. He was in streets. Still having back issues. Rumor is the Zips are going to try for a medical redshirt. A nice win for the Zips tonight. Weird game all around. BG hung around despite the Zips playing fairly well on both ends (outstanding on offense). Zips are switching too much on the screens on the defensive end and it is causing some mismatches and some easy shots for the Falcons. Very nice to see us close the game out so well from the stripe though. Warmed my heart.

Nice win, but it sure seemed tougher than it should have been. Also, can't believe how easily Ohio handled Buffalo at home!
Dave in Green
Heard before the game that Tree was feeling terrible and might not be able to play. Sure enough, he didn't come out with the team for final warmups. Then he appeared on the bench, sitting by himself and drinking lots of fluids. I was surprised when he subbed in. You could tell it really affected his game, too. He was only 5-5 from the field with a couple of rebounds and a timely block. I've got to give him a lot of credit for playing hard while under the weather. BG deserves some credit, too. They brought their best game and didn't go down easily. They were pesky on defense and on offense they were hitting tough shots. Zips finally took care of business in the end and turned it on in the last minute or two against a team that shouldn't have been that close in the first place. That strategy didn't work against ORU, and it probably won't work against OU, Buffalo and Can't. Time for the Mississippi State/Marshall version of the Zips to start showing up at the rest of the games this season. Take control early and don't let the other guys back in the game. Tree was filling ill. But an hour and a half before the game he put on a nice dunking clinic. I'm amazed they could still use that rim after he and Harney got done abusing it. Nice windmills and under the leg dunks. Speaking of Miss St. Akron is now ranked ahead of them by 1 spot.

phil
Except for a 2 minute period at about 4 minutes left in the game when the Zips tried to stretch the clock out, I thought this was one of their best offensive games. They moved the ball around well and were scoring around the paint. They were also hitting the offensive boards. Zeke had his best offensive game and made some nice offensive moves around the rim. He also hit a wide open J. We were also hitting our foul shots. My only complaint with our defense was that Alex had difficulty staying with his man and when someone came over to help it left the Zips at a disadvantage. I know Keith is not happy with his defense but he had a great steal at the end of the game that won the game for us again. He has made some clutch defensive plays this year at the end of games. Offensively, I am not sure what else we can ask for except better shooting from the 3 line.
PB1719
I was surprised by how well BG played. If we weren't on our "A" game things could have ended up very different, much better teamwork overall. I still think Nitro is off of his game. I think the ORU served as a wake up call. It's safe to say we'll see every teams best effort from this point on, we definitely have a target on our back. I was happy to see a strong inside presence in the first half, wish we could have forced the ball inside more in the last 5 minutes or so. This was a quality win, Go Zips!! scottditzen
Just caught the highlights on Channel 19. Nice threeee from Walsh! For the record, they followed the Cavs, but preceded the Tribe spring training. Not too shabby!!
wadszip
Just caught the highlights on Channel 19. Nice threeee from Walsh! For the record, they followed the Cavs, but preceded the Tribe spring training. Not too shabby!! But I thought the biased Cleveland media doesn't care about Akron? Seriously, I'll echo some of the sentiments here in that I thought the Zips played their best basketball of the year in the first half, outside of 3-point shooting. Still, they were something like 20 of 33 from the field, despite only being 2 of 10 on 3-pointers. On top of that, they had, IIR, 13 assists and only four turnovers. I'll give Bowling Green all the credit in the world for sticking around. Like Dave said, they hit shot after tough shot. Any other MAC team, on this night, would've been in a 20-point hole at the half. The second half wasn't as clean, but still solid overall except for the couple minute spurt with about 4 minutes left that allowed BG to pull within four. Again, I gotta give credit to BG, though. They played a hell of a game. The 11-point margin was in no way indicative of how well the Falcons played. Just thinking about other recent home games, the Zips played way better tonight than they did against Toledo (14 point win), EMU (30 point win), NIU (24 point win) and Miami (15 point win). One more thing that I'd like to point out, Zeke played 27 minutes without being called for a foul. He delivered with one of his top three offensive games of the year ... posting up and finishing and even knocking down a 15-foot jumper. When Zeke isn't called for a cheap foul early, he seems to play like a man possessed. Well, this is the MAC and Zeke isn't likely to see a game called as clean as it was tonight ever again. Hopefully, though, when he is called for a cheap foul, he won't let it affect him. We saw first-hand how effective he can be when his head is in a game. Maybe a game like tonight could be the mental turning point for him, because when he doesn't perform well, it's not anything physical, it's between the ears, and the Zips end result suffers. Blue & Gold
But I thought the biased Cleveland media doesn't care about Akron? We can be hopeful, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. After another 20+ years of equal-or-almost-equal billing with the Cavs, Indians and Browns we'll only begin to start breaking even.

Funny that Steve French complained about the fans before the game....then felt compelled to berate the fans again after the game. That pisses me off. Because the only place fans talk about the Zips is here. And it has been RIDICULOUSLY positive all season. French: "Hey Keith, how does it feel to have fans complain after the Oral Roberts loss?" French: "Well Kieth, the fans really don't appreciate how difficult it is to achieve 20 wins do they?" French: "How difficult is it on the players when fans turn on them after a loss?" I HATE that. We're drawing more fans than ever this season. Filled two buses to West Virginia. The basketball board has been buzzing all season long, with the RAREST of complaints about anything. 4,000+ fans are filing into the JAR on a regular basis, and French is baiting KD to complain about them. Let's all put on our hair shirts and repent for saying Zeke should have had more touches in the Oral Roberts game. The audacity.

I agree about the board buzzing in a very positive way all season long. This is the same fan base that withstood 2-22 with iCoach. For some perspective on what negativity is, Frenchy should revisit some of those threads.
