Must be getting paid It's not like he's gonna be making a lot more at Duquesne - $1 M+ a year vs. 950K he earned this past year. It's also about at age 58, he's taken your very fine program (really) as far as it can go in your current league. Best of luck - I really hope you guys can find a coach to carry on the success. smacktalkinZip
I believe Dambrot saw that next year was going to have a noticeable drop off in wins. This was his year (most wins, coach of year) to cash in.
clarkwgriswold
Josh is just the first of the transfers now... With our facilities and budget, we're not a step up from Stony Brook right now.
zippy5
We need to get this one right, that's for sure. We don't have much going for us other than recent success. A bad hire and a couple bad years, and you're selling an empty JAR to coaching candidates. Gulp

Pretty certain of that. Probably more to do with the fact that the guy hasn't been able to recruit and he knows we will blow next year. Duquesne has a new admin and is now committed to "winning" - our bball budget is 6th (out of 14th) in the league. That's actually a major improvement. We also play our marquee games at PPG Arena - the Penguins state-of-the-art facility. I would never come on YOUR board to disparage your team - that's bush league. I'm just trying to state objective facts. So, why do u think he left to come here?

clarkwgriswold
I don't begrudge KD. He served UA admirably. Good luck. On to holding our breath with his successor.
infofan
It was a nice run! But too good an offer to turn down. $7million Plus incentives Plus extra money for assistants. For 7 years, 50-60 Million renovation of an arena already nicer than the JAR. And the kicker, A10 conference. He wont have to win tournement to get in NCAA any more.

Do you go to someone's funeral and start giving the grievers the "objective facts." Go hang out with other classless people. Oh, wait, you are already in Pittsburgh. I hate to say it but even a "bottom-feeder" in the A10 is a pretty big step up from......a 1-bid league. You just lost your coach to a "bottom-feeder" - got any alternative facts to counter that? Anyway, I have nothing bad to say about the Zips. But, some of you guys really need to get thicker skin.
UAZip0510
I'm not sure why some didn't take this seriously, or thought it was a negotiating tactic. When he met with USF, I knew this time was different.
zippy5
Knowing how much he cares (cared?) about Akron and UA, I'd like to think he didn't leave without some sort of plan for succession. We'll see I suppose

akronzips71
So next year we are TOTALLY screwed! New coach, POY gone, no big time recruits on the horizon. This harkens back to 1967 when Turner and Williams graduated and we had a team so horrible that the strategy was score one basket and try to stall the entire game (no shot clock in those days). It was not until Wyatt Web came in and re-built the team around Len Paul that we were good again. 2017-18 is going to be PAINFUL.
