GP1
Does not matter. A MAC team clobbered a Big Ten team. Not beat. Destroyed. Along with the total destruction of UNC the other day. In my opinion, we are very very good. We are a good team regardless of who we beat today. The Zips destroyed a horrible team and that is what good teams do. PSU is a horrible program. Penn State went 12-20 and 4-14 in the Big Ten last year. They are predicted to be just as bad this year. I wouldn't try to project future Zips results on today. Dave in Green
It's fair to call PSU "horrible" in the context of the Big Ten. But the Big Ten is currently the top-ranked college basketball conference in the country. In the context of 347 D1 teams, 11 of 12 Big Ten teams are currently in the Pomeroy top 100, and PSU is ranked ahead of nearly 250 other D1 teams: 1. Indiana 4. Michigan 5. Ohio State 8. Michigan State 11. Wisconsin 12. Minnesota 50. Iowa 52. Purdue 55. Illinois 84. Northwestern 89. Penn State 211. Nebraska
akzipper
A win against PSU probably doesn't mean much for most people. But I grew up in PA, so watching my school completely destroy PSU is like watching Akron beat OSU. They may not have the strongest basketball program, but it is the Big10 and they are the biggest school in the state. Now, like most people have said the next few games will be a huge test. They Zips will make the trip home with alot of hype after a great finish to the tournament. In the past they always seem to find a way to lay an egg at home after big wins. Let's hope they can use this tournament as momentum and make this season different than the past.
zipdiehard
Speaking of their arrogance: In Coach's post game he was telling Frenchy about the locker situation. This Zips were stuck in what he called a trailer and were having their pre game talk. I guess the PSU players decided to do their stretching right in front of the trailer and were making noise. Someone from the Zips asked them to move and they didn't. Coach then told Steve: "and they got shellacked for it". He also talked about their being a Big Ten team on the floor and they weren't the ones that lost. I don't think the fans are the only ones that can't stand some of these big schools, especially the league bottom feeders that think they are good just because they are in a particular league. GP1
I think we get caught up too much in the mid major vs. major discussion in college basketball. There are so many quality mid majors, it makes the debate almost irrelevant at this point. The best case I could use to illustrate the differences is our December schedule. Would it be out of line to say almost every team we play in December would beat, or at least play a close game with PSU? I don't thin so. I'll make a prediction here. In a couple of months, we will all look at the PSU game as more of tune-up game for the December schedule than anything else. We have a very challenging December schedule and we need to be prepared. Captain Kangaroo
Fun to take down Penn State in basketball, and Michigan in soccer on the same day. You see all the bajillions of dollars the BCS programs generate...and aside from their top 3-or-4 programs in football or basketball...they're MAC-level. Or worse. Adding Maryland and Rutgers to the Big 10 will allegedly generate and extra 100 million dollars/year in Conference revenue. And Maryland and Rutgers will still have crappy football programs that eek past William and Mary 7-6, and can't beat K.e.n.t. State.

Captain Kangaroo
I think you mean basketball. We are a long ways away from taking down any B!G program in football. Corrected. And, if CMU can beat Iowa, we aren't that far away from beating a bottom-feeder Big 10 team.
tpsjugglerdude
Say what you want about Penn St not being a great team, but they certainly have the name. My office is buzzing this morning with everyone talking about the Zips throttling mighty Penn St. In the eyes of the casual fan a win over psu is a lot better win then a win over a quality mid major that they have never heard of. johnnyzip84
Article from TribLive Penn State trailed by four at halftime before getting outscored, 53-24, in the final 20 minutes. By the time the 2nd half was over, it only FELT like they trailed at halftime

akzipper
Corrected. And, if CMU can beat Iowa, we aren't that far away from beating a bottom-feeder Big 10 team. OhioU beat PSU this year too. Even if PSU was down at the time, they are still a Big10 team. Love how the PSU coach is using an injury as an excuse. If they lost by a few points I get it, but they got completely blown out of the gym. Akron could have gone up by 30 or 40 had we kept in the starting rotation. Is that PG going to score that many points? Doubtful since he only averaged 22 a game so far this year, and hadn't scored once while he was on the court yesterday. Sorry but with what we had to deal with Diggs, Tree, Harney, and Abreu. He get's no sympathy from me.

Dave in Green
Must depend on your browser settings. I got amazon.com when I clicked on the link with the left mouse button. But if I use the right mouse button, copy the link and paste it in a new browser window, I get the wav file.
