akzipper
Anyone rooting for Can't because they want the MAC money. How much has Boise State's BCS games helped the WAC? a conference that is completely getting rid of football
Dave in Green
UCLA leading Stanford 24-17. Will it end up being a BCS bust for the MAC so soon?
RowdyZip
And a closing shot of Roosevelt Nix doing his Michael Porrini impersonation. Nice. PLEASE tell me someone got a screencap?!
Dave in Green
Stanford 24, UCLA 24. Don't think I can take another OT game tonight.
akzipper
So do we think the outcome of this game makes it more likely, or less likely that Darrell Hazell moves on to a real school next season?
ZachTheZip
Slightly less, but he'll still be gone.

akronzips71
We probably hurt their chances, because our record was so bad this year. If we had been 5-6 or better beating us would have helped their cause. Beating a 1-11 team is like they played a high school game or something. The people who do the rankings will probably take off a place or two for beating us.
Dave in Green
The UCLA loss helps NIU. But people who understand the computer rankings better than I do are saying that, while it's possible, it's not likely that NIU's computer rankings will improve enough to jump them all the way to 16th. skip-zip
Best I can do... Someone needs to put this picture together in a collage with Porrini and the crying Ken+ cheerleader. I was very content when I woke up this morning, knowing the following: 1) Akron has a 2005 MAC Football Title 2) Ken+ still has NO MAC Football Title 3) We're on a 4-game winning streak against them in Basketball. Lets hope for the best that NIU gets to a good bowl game, and represents our conference well.
Class of 82
Wow... that was a pretty entertaining football game. A fitting end to an impressive season of MAC football. And the better team, by far, won out. I thought NIU had the perfect game plan on defense. Take away Archer and the running game and put all the load on Spencer Keith. Against that defense, it was eventually just more than Keith could handle in the end. Especially with that mind-bogglingly horrific call for a tight-end reverse... or whatever it was... on 3rd and 1 in the first OT. Finally, Jordan Lynch is just a terrific college football player. Can't has a fine defense, but it seemed like every time they had to stop Lynch they just couldn't. The MAC POY played like the POY. P.S. While a BCS bid seems remote (at best) now, it will be interesting to see how many MAC teams go bowling and what the ultimate paydays prove to be. Dave in Green
Some stats that stood out to me: Spencer Keith -- 15-36 passing for 190 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions, and 8 rushes for -10 yards. Dri Archer -- 12 rushes for 15 yards, and a longest rush of 15 yards!
Lee Adams
Game was a little like the 2005 game. NIU ahead. Looks comfortable. OOPS,Getsy to Hixon. Akron wins. Better outcome for NIU this time.

I hope we can stop a run up the middle next season the way NIU did, and put pressure on the QB. That defense would have got us 4 or 5 more wins this year. Get busy Chuck! Lee Adams
That didn't take long - Dave Doeren hired as the new NC State coach. NIU went to the Mac Champeenship game last year. Obviously this coach wasn't the difference.

Dave Doeren was the NIU coach last year as well (his 1st at NIU).

akzipper
He could have had the decency to take his team to the bowl game before he left. No class. Sadly this has become the norm. Remember when Brian Kelly bailed on Cincy before their BCS bowl? It's sad, but this is the current state of college athletics. Coaches preach about how much they love their schools but are ready to ditch them the first chance they can. I would like to think if we ever became competitive enough to play in a bowl game, Bowden would at least wait til the end of the season. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. GP1
He could have had the decency to take his team to the bowl game before he left. No class. Nonsense. We are talking about big time college football. This guy has 2-3 years to win or he is out on his butt. He doesn't have a recruiting class to lose and needs to get to work right away. He needs to not only recruit, but he also needs assistants, etc. to get started. College football is a business and even the players understand that. The people who think that they should stay at their current school for another month or so, just to do the right thing, are not living in the real world.
